That is not the case. The Shadow can also include positive potentials that due to ego conscious prioritising are missed or purposely ignored.

@@gilil1696 A person would have to be a lunatic to think of a nerdy bloke like JP as a messiah. Jung believed Nietzsche went mad because he though he could become a god. (identify too strongly as the wise old man archetype). JP might need to watch out for that one.

As a Jungian I can reduce it further by simply saying, be authentic and radically truthful with oneself as often as possible, your abilities, skills, talents, faults, failures, flaws, adjust until satisfied, once satisfied or unsatisfied start again, never stop, never mind, never give up.
I believe in evolution and biology. I don't think you can reach anything you decide to pursue.
There are things that you can not get simply because you don't have enough physical and intellective qualities.
The idea that one has to discover what he can and wants to become in order to then reach that particular self is as fascinating as it is illusory.
It is the objective reality that determines what one can become.

I am experiencing the lessons presented right now in my life. I struggle to sit down and meditate for half an hour a day as advised. It often happens that Dr. Peterson’s videos come at a time I need the clarification he offers.

This is really helpful, love this. And as long as Jung’s idea of the Self is ‘profoundly biological’, I’m on board:) This is a great clip, I’ve listened to this before and I’ve learned a great deal from you. Great practical application in this instance because becoming the best you can be definitely has its learning curves. Sure knocked me the hell off course. But this helps a lot, your work is much appreciated.
And this ties in with the Lion King narrative of the newly born hero. Some things will have to burn up and rise again out of the ash and each time gets you closer to the 'star' until you hone in on it. Lots of building (and pain) and spitting out bones along the way, just don't quit; you've always got Rafiki to help out..

I may not be educated enough to know the exact definition of his words because his vocabulary is 10x mine ,, but I'm ethical enough to recognize a PURE heart and soul of a good person, I can honestly tell my 2 young boys that if they feel lost and can't find the answers, to listen to this Mans teachings, there is No doubt in my mind he all good and pure , God bless you.

@@arohkraehmer I agree generally - stories can be important for depth, nuance, and comprehension - but I get annoyed by Peterson giving the appearance of complex profundity when he’s saying quite simple things.
Well, I guess there is a reason why it annoys you and it doesn't annoy me. We are all different (something I REALLY understood deeply after doing his Big Five course). I find I am energised by the way he talks about these things. The thing is yes this might be something simple, but because it is so simple we find it easy to dismiss. He is making me stop and really look at these things.
@@arohkraehmer I am really glad he has such a positive effect on a lot of people, especially young men. I take issue with how much he’s venerated and how people trust his every word way outside his areas of expertise - and I don’t like how he calls everyone who disagrees with him a narcissist and whips up alarmist outrage against them - so I get crotchety about him. But in terms of his impact on individual lives, I’ve gotta hand it to him. He’s doing great work there.
Some people thrive on philosophy, others on objectivity. The neuroscience counterpart of his argument is deriving dopamine from the subjective framing of efforts (usually repulsive) as a positive thing and thus finding pleasure in work from limbic friction. This is the neuroscience of a growth mindset that allows us to persevere through failures and the older part of the brain hates failures. Philosophical stuff doesn't work for me as much as the nitty gritty of neuroscience because it gives a more concrete reason than some observed results found in the literature. The same reason why religious scriptures do not convince me to refrain from sex, drugs, and other hedonistic stuff as much as the fear of screwing up the dopaminergic pathways does.
All of life can be made fantastical through choice words built into paragraphs of unique concepts.

the mistakes don´t disapear or dimisish. They become new mistakes in a more mature person.
Big and serious mistakes happen due to lack of knowledge, but they can also happen due to trust in our experience and knowledge. On the other hand, one thing is to grow and mature in life. And another is that with each new decision, relationship or project, we start over again. Learning is a drive, es Pulsión, it´s a beat. We can see the example with Moses himself in the Old Testament. At the end of the entire journey and having guided and interceded for his people, he makes a great mistake for himself and is denied entry to the promised land.

If you have not already, watch the entire lecture series on the bible. Absolutely priceless information. Even if you think you you won't extract anything of value from it, I challenge that assumption. I could speak on addendum, about why but it's more worth you time to just watch it all honestly.

I was 33 years old and nearly lost in life (a pure mess). Moving forward, I graduated from a university at 36 years old (trust me, no big university name, not even close, but I* worked my ass off). I am now 39 years old working for an international company and under management training as I write this.
Point is, you decide what changes should be made in your life. Not your faults.
Hope those who are lost get a little hope. Really, it isn't too late unless you continue to not bother caring to change.

I cannot agree more. This is the guy that inspired me to take my Master's in Psychology because he was able to explain it in very interesting ways. His psychology lectures are head and shoulders above the typical university professor, especially in my country. I just hate the fact that he's more into politics now than psychology.

I have no idea how this may be responded to
But I had a boyfriend who I really loved and who I brought deep into my emotional life in a way I hadn’t ever before.
I was working a wonderful job that simply wasn’t for me, I had worked there for three years and essentially it felt like a moot spending of time. However, i was also in the midst of potentially moving out of state when I met this person. I wondered … four months into dating, this person I really grew to see and love this person. He eventually asked me if I wanted to leave my job and work for him until I get on my feet in a new career
Truthfully
I felt weird that this person offered that. I could see the good intention I guess but I also felt that there was something odd about a partner seeing you as so much less … aligned in career and perhaps competent that this person would offer that which in reality may have been the case but didn’t know if this was also a move to control me to keep my presence in the same state
I shared I didn’t want that, but I didn’t explain why because I felt so offended and didn’t want to … bring to the surface the issues underlying that offer
But I now realize that’s exactly what you need to do in relationships.
Either way, I tried to avoid the question over the next few days and then felt the tension and instead of dealing with the issues and do the extremely hard parts
I just gave in and said okay
And I immediately regretted it
I felt a lack of respect and almost… camaraderie w my boyfriend.
But as I am navigating reflecting on this I need to know / & am evaluating - perhaps this was a kindness that I took for granted or if I was simply weak in defending myself and lost the love of my life by not battling out my values to be respected while also learning how to really receive and give love / support
The bigger problem is that Peterson peddles Christendom and Jung. Jung was not Christian but viewed things totally differently. I've started studying Jung and I've realized he's more interesting than anyone. I couldn't care less about Christendom after having studied Jung. Jung's theories saved my life, his view of the archetypes.
