They say it’s impossible to intentionally make a “good-bad” movie. That they only happen by accident. Maximum Overdrive says nope. The cast and crew put their back into making what they knew was a bad movie. And, against all odds, it rocks from the first scene out. Any movie that shows someone getting murdered by a rogue soda machine is marked for great things.

The thing is that Stephen King can come out with the basic premise and layout, but don't ask him to put it on the big screen and write the script. The man was not happy with Kubrick's The Shinning but was happy with the Sci-Fi channel's version which was closer to his original version (if you are looking for a bad movie to review next, there you go). I feel like Stephen King *did* do the Hunger Games before the Hunger Games was a thing - it was called The Long Walk and it took place in a dystopian future where young men volunteered to take a nonstop walk from I think from Maine to Boston? The first one to cross the finish line could ask the despotic administration for anything they wanted, but it was clear most of the participants died along the way and it was treated as entertainment by the rest of the nation. Pretty sure it was one of the Bachman books.

I don't get the hate this movie gets, "One of the worst Stephen King films". It's a fun movie, hell, AC/DC is playing in the background, so you know you're going to have a good time. Let's not forget the memorable trailer, it's awesome even though it comes off as a serious horror movie instead of a fun popcorn movie. Plus they used the Halloween 3 soundtrack which was a weird choice, it should have been AC/DC. I can't believe King regrets it, "oh no I didn't know what I was doing". No no no, you knew exactly what you were doing. The opening scene with his cameo and the AC/DC music were enough to give you a clue that hey let's have some fun. You get to see Gus from Breaking Bad having fun in the arcade section. If you want a lame version, watch Trucks.
