Frozen foal unrecognisable as cross country star

A horse who was rescued at just ten months old from a freezing field with his emaciated mother and a group of other horses is the muse for the World Horse Sculpture Trail which will be displayed at a number of locations across the UK this year.
World Horse Welfare’s ‘World Horse Trail’ will feature forty sculptures all modelled on Lucas who is now transformed and competes at a number of equestrian disciplines (including showing, dressage and cross country) with his Fife-rehomer, Colleen Macrae.
Acclaimed sculptor, Judy Boyt, travelled to Lucas’ home in Fife to ‘live sculpt’ a maquette of the young horse which was then scaled up to create a mould for the large fibreglass horses which make up the sculpture trails.
Twenty 11hh sculptures will make up two trails, the first of which will be on display around the towns of Windsor and Eton from mid-April, before moving to Kensington and Chelsea. The second trail will be showcased at the Royal Windsor Horse Show where World Horse Welfare is 2019 Charity of the Year and where Lucas will also be travelling to compete in a showing class - flying the flag for rescue horses everywhere.

Its unbelievable how that going from a miss treated foal to an amazing cross country star im glad he now has had an amazing transformation and a good home this world needs people like you in this country i do horse riding myself. He’s proof that you don’t have to be a purebred to have greatness in you. I have absolutely nothing against purebreds, I just love to see the “underdogs” do well.

I've never seen such a color before. He lookes very good and must be really happy to have such a good life after his bad start. Also I like that she let him decided what he wants to do and wasnt like "He has to do this, if he wants or not" and doesnt force him into one of the many sport directions riding can go.

From watching the Olympics a few years ago, there was a wonderful story of a gold medal horse that was ornery, difficult, largely unwanted male. A woman bought him and tried him out on these long distance cross feats. He horse took to it right off.
Yes the colour! I love grey horses and chestnuts but the grey on this guy is stunning and I love that style of mane if you call it that!

I'm pretty sure he's a greying dark bay tobiano. I'm a color nerd so I study the patterns a lot. Plus he's a crossbred tb :)
@@urgirlsuckm3gogurt She's talking about color combos for horses, skewbald/piebald/pinto all mean broken coated (Think of a Paint horse breed, also I think piebald means brown-pinto and skewbald means black-pinto. Could be wrong), Liver chestnut is a dark reddish-brown color. He's turning grey though, so he won't be this color for long since the grey gene always eliminates color unless they have a "bloody shoulder" gene as well.
Armored Wings piebald is black and white - skewbald is brown and white 🙂
