What an amazingly simple and clear way of thinking about personal revelation.
It also reminded me that if I want ministering of angles I should do my ministering assignments and build up my relationships with those around me. It’s more clear than ever that we are his mortal angles here on earth to lift one another up. The better we know each other the better we can give and receive the ministering needed.

I felt that I needed to visit a church lady. Unfortunately, I ignored it, because I was busy. Not too long after that, she passed away. I learned a strong lesson 😭.
My Mom taught me this. I was too "busy" and scared to do it. Not anymore, what have I got to lose? I've got everything to gain. I love my Savior and Father, and they love all who are on earth.

Thank you for sharing such beautiful examples of heeding the whisperings of the spirit. I strive to be more like your mother, especially in my own home with my own children on a day to day basis.
I also try to be more like my sweet mom!! She was truly an angel on earth! 11 kids and 69 grandkids! Her name was "Davida". Interestingly, in Spanish and Portuguese, that means "Gives life". She was AMAZING!!! I sure miss her and can't wait to be with her again!!

I tell near everyone about your talk. I've listened to it at least 12 times. I'm one who's gotten attacked by evil spirits (possessed) many times since the end of my mission, when I was possessed by several demons for 7 months straight. My Dad's mission president George Oakes, figured the problem out. "Smart" ppl chalked it up to pure depression. He gave a simple gentle blessing, and they were finally cast out. Because of this personal experience, it's easy for me to know God is real. My own siblings still don't believe me and have in a way disowned me.
Thank you for being courageous enough to tell truth clearly. The love of God is tangible.

Darcine, The Holy Ghost is a spirit and Satan is a spirit so they can hear each other. We are mortal so Christ, through his Atoning Sacrifice blocks Satan from hearing our thoughts. I'm confident this is true because when I am scared or confused I pray silently and I've received clear answers with no doubt, every time.
I have had a number of people ask me this since they have seen this talk. So, in my book (under the same title as my talk), I go into it in more detail (about the arguments of whether satan can know our thoughts or not). But, you are correct that, since satan and the Holy Ghost are spirits, they communicate the same way and can hear each other. So, satan or one of his minions only need to eavesdrop on promptings we get from the Holy Ghost. Have a great day!!
So does this work for food? I often see a poster of a donut at the gas station and my first thought is to get one immediately… happens a lot. :)
I have a sincere question. How does Satan know what the Spirit is prompting us to do (1st voice) so that he can come back with a 2nd voice response? I always thought that only God knows our thoughts.
I have had a similar question with the 1st Vision and Joseph Smith. How did Satan know to show up right before when Joseph was praying for forgiveness and to know which church to join? I don't know if I know the answers to these questions, and I don't think we understand all of what Satan can and can't do, but we DO know that God allows Satan to tempt us. And Satan has had a long time on this earth to learn the foibles and weaknesses of human kind. Whether that is simply God allowing Satan to influence us or for God allowing ourselves to allow doubt when we have felt promptings or experienced miracles.... I don't know if there is a huge difference. Is it Satan tempting us? Or is it Satan tempting us to tempt ourselves? To me it is the same. There is a force of wickedness, doubt, despair, and darkness and a force of light, hope, joy, and goodness. The goodness comes from God, and the wickedness comes from Satan. Whether it is coming straight from Satan or unseen dark images or from human nature...I don't know if we know. I think it is all of the above. The good thing is...we can find truth through God and through the Holy Ghost. I don't know if this makes sense...these are just my thoughts. :)
How does Satan know what will tempt us individually? He knows us well. Not only has he had a few thousand years to understand the failings of mortality, he knew us before we came to earth, before the council in heaven. He was our brother and knew us well.
I'm glad the thoughts and feelings I get aren't always either from the Holy Spirit or Satan, but also my own. Even though it's frustrating that they all use *my* voice. Haha
From what I understand, we are given messages from our ancestors or angels who work through the power of the Holy Ghost. Satan's minions who are also spirits, hear what these heavenly messengers are telling us. I have heard that we are surrounded by both all the time.
@@ninawigginton2559 - You nailed it right on! Since both evil spirits and good spirits (including the Holy Ghost) are all spirits, they all communicate the same way and they CAN listen to each other. So, satan's minions just eavesdrop on what the Holy Ghost is prompting us to do and they IMMEDIATELY know what to prompt us NOT to do. Very well stated. Thank you!
@dlmorris6: I am so sorry for responding soooooo late to your very good question. I was just recently made aware of these comments and am trying to respond to all of them. Anyway, your sincere question is a GREAT one. After I gave this talk, I have had a number of people ask it of me. So, when I wrote my book, I went into it in much greater detail in that book (the book is the same title as the talk and is available at Deseret Book, Amazon and Barnes & Noble). In my book, I explain why some people believe he CAN'T read our thoughts.....then I also give the arguments for why some people believe that he CAN read our thoughts. I felt it was important for the readers to know both sides of the argument. But, then I explain that whether he can or can't, it doesn't matter because all he has to do is have one of his minions stationed at our side so he/she can "eavesdrop" on what the Holy Ghost prompts us to do and they then know IMMEDIATELY to jump in and prompt us NOT to do that same thing....and use logic to convince us why we shouldn't. Since the Holy Ghost and satan (and his minions) are all spirits, they all communicate the same way, so by eavesdropping on the prompting, they know immediately what to tell us as they work to thwart God's prompting to us. Does that make sense?
I'm only 5 mins in but the problem with what he is saying is that ppl are now going to have thoughts and believe all of them are from the holy ghost. MOST thoughts are not from the HG. But you have to experiment to learn which thoughts are coming from you and which thoughts are coming from the spirit. It takes YEARS and YEARS of experimenting to get really good at this. Even the Brethren said they don't always know.

Surely the promise from sacrament each week "that they may always have His Spirit to be with them" is not an empty promise from the Lord.
Your response is a good example of the ‘second voice’ that he’s talking about. He addresses your very logical question in depth.
