This review is perfect! So many current players I’ve talked to are kind of bashing this product but this isn’t made for us. It’s made for new players, the cold foil cards are basically a Costco sampler to showcase the beauty of CFs. The RF equipment is a sampler to how most current players like to have shiny ✨ show off like equipment ( not bashing, I do too). I have used mine already to teach friends about the game and it’s made explaining the steps much easier. It is a bit pricey but I would say it isn’t bad for a basic play introduction with Cold Foils and Rainbow Foils. I love the product and loved the review.
Sorry, but I don't think constructive critisism is the same as 'bashing'. And it's very odd for a "Beginner Product" to be that expansive. I know no other TCG where you pay 50$ for something, what's essentially a duel deck with some gimmicks. Why is there a lore booklet but no rule or how-to-play guide? What should a new player do with cold foils? Why is the package foil, but not even cardboard deckboxes in it? To point things like that out is no "bashing" but constructive critisism, what is important to keep the game healthy and successful. I don't want LSS become a second WotC, that doesn't care about their costumers anymore.
Really digging your views on this. Nice to that you're objectively seeing the product for what it is and not getting upset that there aren't a bunch of major power creep cards included.
New player here. Just bought this deck and will be arriving tomorrow. Looks great and I agree; CF and lore booklet are cool! They provide context and build the universe. I can't wait.
I agree on the Rulebook, like in old MTG Starter/Tournament decks. I understand that in the web era is not necessary, but would have been a great retrò addon. How these decks would interact with the existing ones? As a casual player i'm only playing with the precons decks and i'm looking how they play together. cheers
It's interesting how people seem to justify the price because it comes with cold foil cards.... But I've never paid extra for a booster that contained a cold foil 🤔
The biggest concern I’ve seen is that the product is way too expensive for new players and that’s exactly what is being advertised in the product. I think the product would have worked much better in the $ 10-20 price range. It's a miss what comes to pricing.
I’m sad to see that these didn’t come with foldable cardboard deck boxes, but otherwise it’s an awesome set and really good at getting newer people familiar with the game.
The Magic 2 player starter set is sub £8, I think that's a price point they need to hit with a 2 player product to reach the "I've never heard of this but it looks cool, let's try it" level. Ignoring price though I think what's in the box is solid and like you said has good reasons for being the power level it is.
Your review of the product is spot on. It looks like the price on these will settle at around 30-35 in Europe, which should be fine. I would have preferred if there were some cool to have cards like Rainbowfoil Bolters instead of Ironrot, Red Slice and Dice instead of En Garde, etc.
I am completely new to this game. I have a friend that mentioned it in my vicinity recently and I am in the market for a new card game to play. I walked into my local game store and asked what do I need to start. He pointed me at Blitz decks and also advised that this product had come out that day. I got a Prism Blitz, a Briar Blitz, 4 boosters of the first edition reprints and this product. I will go as far to say I agree with you on the rules insert. It needs one desperately. I went to the website, watched the video and was thoroughly confused and missed some big ticket items on how to play. I have just finished a game against my friend and he cleared a lot up for me. This is a good game, and I want to invest. It is a shame that a product touting itself as "for new players" does not come with some form of the rules. But the cards are cool, the game is great. I would have been much happier getting the lore booklet as a rules booklet. The lore is cool, but as a new player would have much preferred to know how to play.
I couldnt agree more with the pricing. The decks themself are okeyish to learn the game, tho they couldve added a few logs to the powerlvl firepit imho.. like why are there yellow out for bloods and such.. just doent really make sense.. I agree that its a good product for beginners overall but i find myself not believing that someone runs trough products at their LGS and picks up smthn for 50 bucks that hey never played. For 29.99 it wouldve been a different story.. I do not agree to the CD part pf yours tho. I think they couldve just peinted all the cards normal or some in RF.. I like the product. I bought one. I planned on buying one from the beginning. But... The good The inclusion of foil cards, specifically cold foil was an intetesting choice to help new players see the different foilings. Some if not many new players have no idea what cold foil/rainbow foil means. Actually seeing it raises interest. As a stand alone product it is good for grinding out some games. Got a friend over or hanging out at an lgs? Here's everything you need to play, go have fun. Some of the new cards are interesting and I look forward to them being released in future sets (titanium bauble). New brute and warrior mentors The lore booklet is neat The bad It's actually pretty expensive for new players. While not official I've seen "starter" decks that include more at a lower price. 12-20 dollars got a deck, some tokens (paper and dice), a paper playmat and a cheat sheet for the rules. There's many "similar but worse" cards. Not the worst thing but feels more like filler as opposed to deck strategy. Rhinar sort of got the short end of the stick. They should have included tokens or something for keeping track of resources. Is it necessary? Not always but it didn't have to be anything fancy, similar to pokemon or modern magic commander decks. Long story short- it's a fancy looking product i don't regret buying one but there are better alternatives for starting this game (depending on your options). Get one if it calls to you.
I think the price point is such a huge fumble from LSS. Two blitz decks separately would be $30, 15 each. I don't see what this product adds that warrants a $20 price increase over that. A handful of foils and a cheap little booklet don't do it for me. Everyone says the product is for new players, but I think that this price point is even less appealing for new players. You're paying $50 for mostly crappy cards that you'll have to replace anyway if you decide to invest further into the game. The idea of the product is good, but the fact that it's so expensive is just a shot in the foot. I think trying to justify the price is just straight copium.
Why do people think that weak / bad cards are good for teaching new players? A 4-block defense reaction is just as easy to understand as a 2-block. Same story with the Sigil of Solace and any other blue card instead of the Bauble. I agree the cards don't all have to be collectible, but I'd prefer if they provide players with decks that can actually be upgraded more easily.

As a counter-example, My LGS recently got new starter decks for the Digimon TCG (which I don't play... yet). They excitedly told me that it's a great product if I'm interested in learning because (1. it comes with instructions on how to play and (2. it contains good cards that are relevant in the meta. I'm much more inclined to buy this starter deck knowing that I can upgrade it to be competitive, if I wanted to. Of course, it also really helps that it's $12.99 per deck!

I feel like commoner decks are almost a better intro to players than classic battles. I’ve prefered using Joey Senart’s starter lists as they are easy to make and show an important aspect of the game: cards can have different pitch values. Classic battles having only one pitch type per card hugely detracts from what the game is. Cold foils are nice though, and I feel like for being a new player having some “bling” will be huge. I just feel like LSS could have really knocked this out of the park, instead they hit an easy strike for a single.
Counterargument: in order for a new player to learn the game with community-driven commoner decks, they would need some connection to the community or a "teacher" in-store to demonstrate the game and give them decks. This product can stand on its own and allow two players to learn from the ground up by themselves. I think both methods have merit and should be used in different cases!

No rule/player guide for a "New Player" product is an epic failure, however LSS designer's mindset may have been to drive the "New Player" to the website. Provide the darn rule/player guide with the box! A new player wouldn't even know what the card components of pitch, cost, intellect, power, and defense are, never mind the sequence of a turn or even the win condition. Also, the packaging doesn't really offer a good "between play sessions" storage solution. The box should have a bottom with an insert that lets you place the decks back in the box in a secure fashion along with the playmat and lore book. Then there should be a lid to close the box. The decks and cards themselves are pretty good for beginners to start with. Slightly dumbed down relative to let's say the existing Blitz decks, yet still provide exposure to the basic turn-based mechanics of the game. The lore pamphlet is so so. Nice, but I can see it just being tossed to the side. Seems it would have been better to provide a rule/player guide in this format and drive the players to the website for the lore, which is essentially the same as the physical lore book. $50.00??? Too much for sure. At that MSRP, you have to expect highly critical review of the set. The $40.00 many stores are selling for?? A bit better. I suppose LSS is thinking this should be a little more than the cost of two Blitz decks for the "extra" stuff. I bought one, because I buy at least one of everything with FAB cards.
I almost agree with all of this, on one hand it is a good product for new players to learn the game, well designed for that purpose. My biggest confusion is the inclusion of new cards that some already entrenched players are going to want, so the product seems to have a duel identity (and I don't mean Rhinar and Dorinthea's identities)
I'll share the same comment i put elsewhere if that's alright (oo ) Well to be honest i think that Duel Deck box could be better. I was waiting for it for weeks but now it seems they could have added better cards. I don't think new players will appreciate foil equipment. They look amazing but they could have added some better stuff. Also only one Majestic (if we don't count the Mentor)? Glistening Steelblade will be a key card for every Dorinthea version so i hoped they would add two of them. There are some other issues like what kind of cards they used for those decks. For Dorinthea there are some with cost 1 give plus 3 damage while you have others that give a go again along with damage. Another example is Raging Onslaught, for Rhinar, that can be replaced by Wounded Bull cause it has a good effect. I will replace some cards I have in my Dorinthea deck with those new ones ( for example Blossom of Spring will replace my Blood Drop Brocade ) but I think it's better to buy them as singles and not the box. So personally i didn't like it that much but it's a good touch. Maybe if two friends want to spend from 20$ each and try the game, if they are not familiar with any marketplaces to get singles, it can be good but still :| Also i was waiting for your review as well and always excited to see your videos and thoughts!: 3 And I apologize if my comment was very negative :/

Well, if you don't mind to spend 50$ for two Blitz Decks, a cheap paper playmat and an even cheaper lore booklet (which is of course not even hardcover) than yes, but if you have any resonable senses for prices and value, hell not. Grade: A (for a price of 20$) B (for a price of 30$) C (for a price of 40$) D (for a price of 50$) F (anything above)
Hi DM, normally I love your content, but I disliked this video. I believe internet anonymity is not always fair and felt, you as the content creator, deserved a reasoning for my dislike. At $50, half the cost of a Booster Box (at retail), the value, provided by LSS is downright insulting. As Chunberdunkus suggested, commoner is the much better value (both in financial terms as well as playability). Furthermore, and as mentioned by Izzy, Glistening Steelblade, should not have been included in a product like this. Glistening Steelblade appears to be the sole chase card, and is unique and exclusive to this two player set. LSS is establishing a very dangerous precedent by including this card and appears to be taking advantage of both the newer player and the established one. In theory, there will be people spending $150 to get 3 cards (I will not be one of them). IMO, 3 copies of Glistening should have been given as a good faith gesture to the playing community.

It's likely to try and let the product make its way to new players rather than existing players buying them all just for the good cards

Yeah 50 is too much for a starter product.

Glistening Steelblade appears to be the sole chase card, and is unique and exclusive to this two player set. LSS is establishing a very dangerous precedent by including this card and appears to be taking advantage of both the newer player and the established one. In theory, there will be people spending $150 to get 3 cards (I will not be one of them). IMO, 3 copies of Glistening should have been given as a good faith gesture to the playing community.
there is no value in adding a booklet to teach the game, waste of resources, adds to the price and complexity of production, info already easily available and so on. learn to product own (;
They put a blue sigil of solace in the deck. Whoever made this deck list definitely doesn't play the game. I love FAB, but this one missed the target.
