Lovely episode. I suspect British people actually know very little about Turkey and the opinions they do have are influenced by a prejudiced press. I’ve never been but what I’ve seen from your videos is a beautiful country, full of incredibly hospitable people, who are open and generous. There are always laughs and smiles and new things to learn and see. I wish more people watched this channel because they would certainly learn a lot. Keep up the great work and thank you to Turkey for looking after two of our citizens so well. 🇹🇷👍🏻
You're correct, so hospitable. Considering the average salary there, they are always willing to give you stuff for free.
Thank you James - we are delighted you are enjoying the videos and we are so happy to be able to share the places and friendships we experience - We love Turkey and we are grateful to be part of the Turtle Centre as it means we will be back !! Thanks again for your support xx Marianne xx
Nice tot hear people like you, who really knows well thé turkish People. And take distance of all thé fake negative propaganda aboutTurkey.
..and all this despite the fact that History connects the two nations (as two empires) so intensely. I studied in Germany and worked for a German Company in Turkey and all the time you are confronted w so many prejudiced minds. Some times you feel you are talking to a wall.
dont be fooled they try to fool tourists by charging way more. A true turk here
My visite in Ankara in 2019 very good people and country turkye im From algeria 🇩🇿🇹🇷🇩🇿🇹🇷🇩🇿🇹🇷

Türkei ist sehr schön und interessant 🇹🇷🇩🇪😃
Turkey is a very beautiful country, the west of Turkey is Europe, the Anatolian side is Asia and this provides a very nice connection, the people are very respectful, most importantly the Greek historical monuments are very similar to Romania but of course it is more beautiful 🤗🇹🇷🇪🇺
Turkish are very well known for their humbleness & hospitality . But at the same both of yours humble and friendly very friendly and humble attitude make them love both of you more.
Awwh Thank you so much

Ankara, city of Atatürk. Looking forward to watch Anıtkabir. Praying for his soul on every single day.

Never went to Ankara when I lived in Turkey but I must go there it looks brilliant.
Go ... Go ... Go ...

Interesting fact, Ankara was a ruled by Gaul Celts in 280 BC.

Oh, my Turkish bucket list just got bigger 😅 What a beautiful city!
Ankara is underrated! It has modern, historic and great culture.
Very nice video! Ankara seems to be a friendly and HUGE city with a lot of nice friendly people! Thanks for sharing! 🤙
Thank you - and there is more !! part 2 coming tomorrow xx sending love from Georgia !! xx
I always thought that Ankara was an all new city like Brasilia. So nice to be proven wrong. Thanks for another great tour of an interesting place in Turkey. I always learn something new from your very informative videos. I can’t wait to get back to Turkey someday soon and explore it more.
Back in the day in 1920's Ankara was small and old town but Ataturk had the wisdom to built the young republic's capital there. Not many people were in favour of this idea but now it is one of the biggest metropoles of Turkey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@warsawiconic yes it is the second most populated city in Turkey w 5.7 Mn people (after istanbul with 16 Mn)
Actually it was a town with 30.000 population (100 years ago).
Ankara is actually a lot bigger than what they were able to show since they parked by the castle and show only what’s in walking distance. Simply you may say they went to the old town of Ankara if you will. Some other parts of the city will be just like how you imagine all new.
For those who do Fahrenheit, Maryanne said it'll be 98.6 by day and 71 at night. My kind of weather! LOL.
Am so glad you got to Ankara. Its a really different city I feel, much calmer. Have some fabulous photos of the city from the top of the castle. Enjoy guys.
I do enjoy updates regarding Turkey I love the beauty of the country and there's always hidden secrets have to see you get a lovely cool Breeze across you get a smell of Jasmine all roses or the lovely smell of cooking food which I am a big fan of I just love a doner kebab also you have to look at how clean the country is you never really see that amount of rubbish that you would see in the UK on the streets also Turkey always welcomes the UK Brits with open arms as visitors and do their best to help you with a voice it's a shame that's not happening all over the world travelling has become very limited to we can GO right now it's very disappointing to be stuck in the UK 24/7 I would love to be in Turkey I've always had a great time good value for money as you know as the song says things can only get better xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks Ricky - rubbish unfortunately is everywhere in the world and we have not found a better or worse country - we have found countries that pay more to rubbish pickers especially in touristy areas !! But Turkey is a fabulous country and we would advocate anyone come here as it is wonderful !! And we get messages daily from youtubers and instagrammers saying they are coming !! so expect a lot more videos on Turkey soon !! woo hoo
I was looking for videos on Ankara as I may be deployed there for work from Cairo/Egypt and came across this super pleasant video of yours. Marianne's attempts to speak the local language is the cutest :D And Chris, your laugh is out of this place... Amazing video. Thank you, guys, and best of luck with all your travels!
Ha Ha ! Thank you ... we hope you love Ankara as much as we did - Happy New Year !
Turkey is really a beautiful county ...wish someday I can explore ...it's really a majestic tour around Ankara...keep it up...👍👍👍
Wow, so much to see in this city, it's amazing all of what you have showed us so far. I still have a great big TV like in the museum that would do damage if it was hurled at someone....it is heavy, but hey, it works. I learned a new word....perambulator. I just know it as a baby carriage. Those large clay pots were amazing, you could plant a tree in one of those. Thank you for our tour today, you two are such wonderful guides around a city. Take care and hope you are staying where it's not to hot.
To perambulate is an old English word meaning to walk.
Ah Thanks Adele xx that is so kind .... thanks for coming on this journey with us xx

Always love watching your videos and seeing our home cities through your eyes. I would like to make a small correction:
14:09 : This is not the first pariament building of Turkey, it is second one. It served between 1924 and 1960. The first parliament building is 200 meters ahead of this building.
OH no !! LOL - we asked the guard first too !! Thank you for the correction xx We will have to go back to do another video one day xx

Horizontally cooked Kabob is called "Cag Kebabi" g is actually the silent g. Dish from Erzurum area. It is the original doner kebab, before someone in Bursa region put it up vertically in 19th century.
Greetings from Ankara
11:30 In Turkey, people distribute food such as Turkish delight, biscuits, and sweets for the benefit of the deceased. We call it "ölülerin hayrına". This usually happens during Ramadan, but some people may prefer to distribute it to people who come to a mosque or are nearby it. That might be the reason why people gave you some sweets.

You can collect lots of sweets around mosques, it is actually a religious tradition to share sweets and Turkish delight after your wish or pray comes true. Older people usually bring sweets to mosques to share with youngers or mosques shares sweets on sacred days with their own donations. When i was a child, my grandfather were coming back home with Turkish delights from the mosque almost every night after the prayer. Children like to go to mosque this way. 😂
