steve vai teeth of the hydra reaction alex hefner guitar solo he is literally not a human teeth of the hydra reaction #stevevai #teethofthehydra #reaction - Hudba
"God, the man's wife must be happy." Perhaps one of the best reaction comments in the history of comments. Lol!!
🤣🤣🤣
He did name the last guitar he designed last year after her, Pia. And yes he is the GOAT.
@@AlexHefner Looks like a 12-string guitar at the top, a 7-string in the middle, and bass at the bottom. It also sounds like he has separate outputs from each, so that each neck can play out of different amplifiers, or at least separate effects loops.
@@acfiv1421 it also has a seducer, climax regulator, dragoniser and harp
Was a classic like
If you haven’t already seen it… you MUST SEE… Steve Vai “for the love of god”… incredible!!!!!
Second that. The version with the orchestra is best
@@MrJoelwaddingham yes. The orchestra performance is best to see before the album/studio version.
YES!
totally agree!!
@@MrJoelwaddingham Not even close, the G3 '96 version is much better. Even the Astoria version is better than the orchestra version.
Just the fact he's STILL innovating the guitar world at the age of 61 is mindblowing.
There have been alot of innovators in the past like Van Halen,Jimi etc...But Steve has really surpassed them all
in your opinion lmao . he could just about hold jimis ball sack. his note selection is BS and way out of tune but as your tone death i accept your pathetic opinion lmao
For sure
Well, to be fair, this was a stunt. There really has not been any real innovation in guitar since the 80s. By Innovation, I mean something new that made kids by the millions begging their parents to buy them a guitar. That was the effect that Hank Marvin, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Eddie Van Halen had. There are probably less than a dozen people in the world with the talent to use this Hydra guitar (and I'm probably being generous). Don't get me wrong - there are extremely talented players in the world today, but their playing is derivative of what came before. The electric guitar was invented around 1950, and in the first 30 or 40 years after that, great guitarists have pretty much discovered everything you can do with it. In the 60s, 70s and 80s, and even some in the 90s, you would hear musical trends and styles and techniques you had never heard before. But I have not heard any modern music that could not have been recorded 20 years ago.
" By Innovation, I mean something new that made kids by the millions begging their parents to buy them a guitar. "
Well, considering that your definition of innovative is completely different from the dictionary's, I think he's in the clear here@@acfiv1421
It's a semi-fretted semi-fretless bass on the bottom, a seven string electric in the middle and a half fretless 12 string electric/acoustic that makes sitar-ish sounds up top. The guitar and his performance are fucking insane.
You forgot the Harp to.
@@terryosborne272 I think the third one is a 12 string sitar sounding acoustic. I didn't see a fourth instrument in there unless I'm mistaken.
@@bozeeke Bottom of the guitar, there are strings going across. A bit hard to notice, but he strums them occasionally
There is a bass, 12 string and 7 string. Look down by the bass were the pick ups are you will see the strings of the Harp. Look were the shape cuts in.
Chances are they are differently tuned as well. Amazing!
Steve Vai's mission in life is to make every other guitarist feel inadequate. And he does a great job of it.
If you want another 3-neck gem, Steve's live performance of "I Know You're Here" is another jaw-dropping chapter in his constant mastery of the guitar.
that performance is what got me.into Steve Vai. everything he does is a work of art really.
Totally agree with you. Btw, I think he already reacted to that.
plus he sings on that track too.. like cmon Steve just stop it now 😭
He s a Guitar Ninja. Live was Awesome. Nashville 2023. I got high off of the music and the buzz lasted for days. Steve Vai is one of a kind.
When I heard Vai the first time in 89' with WHITESNAKE, I was a 15 year old beginner guitarist....I said then he was one of the best on the plant.....Im 47 now, still a beginner guitar play (ha) and he still is one of the best on the planet. I called him "MADUSA HANDS".
"I know you're here" is one of the most amazing guitarist performances I've ever seen and it's by the goat himself Steve Vai
I have to agree with the 'Goat' statement ... I love many guitarists but overall Vai has to have transcended what is possible and innovated the most ... He invented the fucking JEM, THE UNIVERSE etcetera ... His genius is already off the charts before he even plays a note.
This is actually his 3rd triple neck. Of course, this one goes WAAAAAAYYY beyond what the previous ones capabilities. The first was a heart shaped one that had three 6 string guitars. The second had a 12 string and two 6-string guitars one with a whammy bar and one without. Then there's the Hydra. One semi-fretless bass, a 7-string, a 12-string half fretless, harp strings, and effects built in.
He does also have a double neck that has a standard 6-string with a whammy bar and a fretless 6-string.
I'm certain that he's from Krypton.
He has another video on his channel that shows off the features of this guitar, aptly named The Hydra. The top neck is a 12 string guitar that's fretless beyond the 9th fret & has piezo switches for that neck. The middle neck is a 7 electric string guitar. The bottom neck is a 3/4 length headless 4 string bass that's fretless on the top two strings. It also has a 13 string harp on the bottom of the guitar body, plus a bunch of other knobs & switches that I couldn't even try to explain what they do. Steve Vai stated in an interview he was going for a steampunk look for this guitar, gave his idea to Ibanez to design, & it took 3 1/2 years to have this guitar built once they came up with the final design.
I played guitar for just over 12 years. I haven't had a guitar in more years than that now, but, I am absolutely dumbfounded by what I just witnessed. Simply uncanny. If this does not place Steve on a different level, then nothing short of death will.
He's been a guitar God since the late 80s with that crazy 7-string Ibanez he was working with then.
so far, I've heard, acoustic, sitar, bass, electric, keyboard as well. he's a genius. and he's insane.
4 String Bass, with E and A String fretless, 7 String Guitar with AEADGBE, 12 String fretless from 12 fret onwarts and a Harp on the side. This is a beast
I recently attended a Vai show, where I was privileged to actually be allowed to attempt to play this incredible instrument. A surreal experience.
Dude, you should see him in concert. Absolutely phenomenal. I saw Stave in concert in 2003 with Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen, after leaving that concert, I had a headache, it was not from the volume, it was from watching all that talent in one night and setting especially when all three were on stage for the encore. You must do some Joe Satriani, he taught Steve Vai the guitar.
Acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass in layman's terms. So freakin awesome!
Hey Alex. Steve recently had some surgery that basically didn't allow him to strum the guitar. I think it was rotator cuff surgery. He was still practicing using his left hand to make ALOT of amazing music. This guitar was I spired by that and other things. It is a half fretted/fretless bass on the bottom, a 7 string electric in the middle and a half fretless/fretted 12 string electric on top. These is also a set of strings on the left set up for droning like sitar sounds. He also has some built in kill switches and effects that he can press for certain sounds. It is truly amazing!
Steve Vai is mind blowing! Check out Alien Water Kiss from his passion and warfare album! How he makes these sounds with a guitar is beyond insanity!!!
yo Alex, I would love seeing you react to Steve Vai - "For The Love of God" (orchestra version), the whole performance is impeccable, cheers!
yes plesae!
Yes please please 🎸
🤞🤞
hope he reads the comment :D
That version is certainly good but I personally think having to sync perfectly with the orchestra constrains Vai's improvisational abilities. I still love the "For The Love Of God" - G3 1996 version where Steve just sails into another musical universe and does things with a guitar few others have even dreamed of. But there are no wrong choices here. Vai is a humble genius.
Steve Vai the Audience is listening his wah pedal work is unheard of and defies physics!
If you enjoyed listening to this, you should consider the 1985 movie Crossroads as one of your first movie reactions. It has Steve Vai in the role of the Devil's guitar player, and has one epic guitar battle at the end too. Plus Ralph Macchio gives a great performance of a young guitar player who wants to become a blues legend.
Check out The 2Cellos with Steve Vai that is a good watch too.
This is what you get when you take a guy like Steve Vai and lock him up for 2 years because of covid-19. He goes down stairs to his underground laboratory and in the first year he builds a guitar like no other. And in the second year he learns how to become a master at playing it.And now he re-emerges to perform this.
Dude...I saw Steve Vai in concert with just one guitar neck!! (0ne guitar)... (oh and btw, he was in concert, that night, with serval other guitar heros...Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Adrian Belew, Eric Johnson and a few others) and after the concert, the only word that came to mind was Sorcery. As a matter of fact, my exact thought was...this guy (Steve Vai) isn't a guitar player he's a sorcerer.
Aw shit. I've seen Kenny live, but Kenny and Steve Vai? I'd throw myself off the roof of the venue at the end because I'd know for a fact my life would never be that complete again.
More than an instrument that thing is a fucking machine. those kinds of things, Steve Vai 🎸 is a Guitar God, he is beyond the stratosphere in terms of his level. the way he makes love to guitars is unique and special.
I often say that Steve Vai has forgotten more about playing a guitar than anyone will ever know. Seeing him live was as close to a religious experience as I have ever had. Funny that you mention Ralph Macchio as he was in a movie called Crossroads from 1986 where he had to play against Steve Vai at the end of the film. Cutting heads. It became a song called Eugene's Trick Bag.
This is actually 4 isntruments. Top neck is a cytar, (half fretless) middle neck is a 7 string guitar, bass on the botton (with 2 fretless strings) and a harp on the side. Its insane!
Not to mention the fact that it has 4 AUX inputs, and can essentially function as it's own recording studio. Everything you hear in this song, even the backing track with the drums, is all coming from the guitar.
Saw Steve with the slip of the tongue tour with whitesnake. Saw him with DLR and in LA . Goes all the way back to Zappa, Steve is awesome.
Another must-listen is his song For The Love Of God. You won’t be disappointed.
I saw him play this live on 4/20....joe Satriani played that night as well. Pretty amazing.
TENDER SURRENDER awesome dynamic and technical extasy!
Funny you mention the ‘Sandwich Beasts’. In addition to bass, 7-string, 12-string, harp, and those neat buttons and switches that make funny noises, this guitar also has a built-in toasted sandwich maker.
top neck is half fretted and half fretless with built in effects that make it sound like a middle eastern sitar etc., middle neck is a standard 7 string neck with a floyd rose style tremolo, bottom neck is a headless bass...theres also some 13 harp strings under the three necks he strums when he moves his hand towards the bottom of the guitar
The craziest guitar that is.
Not only are there more strings but also the frets are crazy.
The top most is half fretless, the bottom bass is also half fretless in a crazy way.
Also on the side of the body there are so many tiny strings.
This is insane.
There are only a handful of moments that completely changed the way we see the guitar as an instrument. And this is definitely one of them.
Alex Your my favorite reaction Person. You Should be at every Birthday Party! A Beacon of light!
Steve vai is a very genius, alien dawn fall in hearth. And Italian American with citizen in little town in North Italy, Lombardy
Bass, 7-string guitar, mandolin necks.
Hammer dulcimer and hand controlled effects on the guitar body.
THIS GUY ISN'T HUMAN 😳❤️❤️
Vai isn't going to die. Just sort of turn into pure energy that makes the Music Of The Gods and transcends spacetime.
The top neck is a 12 String, the middle neck is a 7 string. The bottom neck is a bass.
There are also strings on the body itself (13 of them I believe).
It is definitely his craziest guitar today.
I am seriously impressed by the performance (and I have seen him live several times).
got my tickets to see him.. cant wait. You need to check out some old school Steve Vai .. its incredible stuff. Alcatraz Frank Zappa and his first album called Flexible. All worth the listen .
Steve Vai! The Almighty!
This man played the Halo theme back in the day for Halo 2. I love him for this
Steve vai just went to the next level!
you play guitar, you're a guitar player alex. It's music it's not a competition you don't gotta be better than anyone to make music. Love your videos man
Michael Angelo batio. He's an ambidextrous guitar player .hes a machine.
So the 3 necks on the Hydra Guitar are from top to bottom are a 12 string, 7 string and a bass. I think there is also a set of sympathetic strings(like a harp) in that body somewhere. If you want to check out more Vai check out For the Love of God and Alien Love Secrets. Peace!
"the audience is listening", the dueling scene from "crossroads" with ralph machio, "for the love of god", "i would love to",
Note that the bass is fretted for the 2 higher strings but fretless for the lower ones; the 12-string is fretted from the nut to the 8th or 9th fret, then becomes fretless higher up the neck. The 7-string in the middle seems the most conventional thing on there.
this is the guy standing on the cliff in the sunset jamming out to this tune...while im standing in the line to get inthe gates of hell. backdrop music, as it were
Check out Nunu Bettencourt "Midnight Express" for another impressive guitar piece. He was in the band Extreme, which was popular in the late 80s, early 90s.
The harp on the side was a nice hidden touch!!
Official description from Ibanez
The guitar features a top neck 12 strings - half fretless, a middle 7-string neck, a bottom that’s a half fretless bass, a 13-string harp, a “Seducer,” a “Dragonizer,” a “Climax Regulator,” an ethernet 4-way output, and a plethora of switches, controls, and gauges.
Been requesting it for three years now, but you absolutely HAVE to check out Now We Run live in Mineapolis. Easily one of the greatest live guitar performances, and Grammy nominated!
He's got a 12-string acoustic up top, 7-string electric, bass down low, and did you notice the small harp-like part between two guitar 'bodies' on his right?
Many have tried can't compare one word outstanding
Back in the early 90s Steve Vai had a band with Devin Townsend the band was called Vai they had a song called Down Deep into the Pain you should check out the official video. Even if you don’t want to do a reaction to it check it out when you get a chance I think you would like it.
This is what a homogenisation of all 3 DeLorean time machine's is to the guitar.
And I never realised Steve Vai looks so much like Corey Feldman?
Steve has always been my favorite! Let's goo
3 necks and not the least the strings on the tail producing that sitar crashing sound.
That's a hydra 🔥
He has a song called "Little Green Men", on album "Flex-Able". ;P
There is no wasted space, Steve saw an empty space on the body and said "put a something here that's like a third tiny guitar but is also a harp"
"Bad Horse"
The whole bad are shiny gold.
I only have 2 words for this......Awesome Sauce
Steve vai has worked with Halo on th halo 2 theme. It's awesome. Theres an very old video out there of his just casually shredding and building it up as he goes its mega.
The top guitar is a twelve string, the middle is a 7 string tuned to drop A, and the bottom is a bass. And on the side are harp strings
I remember reading somewhere Kirk Hammett took some lessons from him back in the day.
steve always be a GOD of the guitar..........and you forgot the arp part of the hidra :O. thanks for the reaction dude!!
sounds beautiful
Exactly!!! That’s Alien 100%
also look up Joe Satriani "big bad moon", "flying in a blue dream", "ride, "cant slow down", "ride", "surfing with and alien"
Steve Vai of course is one of the guitar masters. He always seems to play beautiful music pieces. I can only imagine that guitar is custom made. Like something he made himself.
Vai is legend. Fact.
Vai is the man, check out ANYTHING from his Alien Love Secrets Album! its Badass!
He is playing in the cooling tunnels underneath a nuclear reactor and that cord runs straight to the core, just to power that beast. 😉
"Show me another guitarist who can do that"
*Joe Satriani, Michael Angelo Batio, and Yngwie Malmsteen have entered the chat*
*John Petrucci has attempted to enter the chat, but is too jacked to fit through the doorway*
As much respect I have for Yngwie and MAB, I've always preferred this style like Satch and Petrucci brings.
Malmsteen & Lynch
Batio can play that guitar for sure, he play double neck guitar pretty easy.
@@DanGmz Yeah definitely, I've seen him in Nitro with the X-Quad. I'm just saying some people prefer say for instance Metallica's simpler melodies than Megadeth's intricate soloing.
@@stephenshampine11 I agree, and I love all of them. Also love Megadeth and Metallica (old) 😁
He never stops pushing himself. He's amazing!
Alex you really should check out Jeff Healey, phenomenal guitarist . Blind plays guitar on his lap . He was self taught . He will blow your mind!!
Insane I love this
over than over the top !
I believe the top neck is a rhythm guitar. The middle is lead, and the bottom is a bass
The man plays like an octopus - Pia is one lucky lady. I know how much heavy a regular guitar, it must be insane to hold let alone play it. He really needs a thick strap to hold and balance the weight of it. He must have some serious upper body strength. Any normal person would need a stool and a foot rest. Superhuman.
Been a fan of Steve for decades (1986) one of my favorite songs is Building the Church, from his solo career. He played for Whitesnake, David Lee Roth, Frank Zappa, Alcatraz. Get diggin bro
Dude can you imagine this as the (Game Of Thrones) intro or the dragon fight Holy Hell Steve is out of the world with this one.
If you look closely, it's actually a 4 in 1 guitar. A 12 string half fretted, a 7 string, a half fretted bass, plus a set of strings at the very end of the body which he strums as he moves his hand between the 3 necks! Amazing human on an amazing guitar !!!
In a world of exceptional bedroom guitarists, still no-one touches him - he sat back quietly and watched all that was going on in the world and then re-emerged with something that only he could pioneer. I may not be a fan of everything he's put out in later years, but for me there wil only ever be one Steve Vai.
I love the channel Alex!
Your facial expressions are epic on this one. lol
Frank Zappa discovered Steve. He did a song called " STEVIE'S SPANKING" with him. Also, I've noticed you have yet to react to KING DIAMOND. I think you really should. I would love to see your reaction to him.
Wow.. Love this.. Thanks Mr Heff try Opeth, A Fair Judgement 👍
Great video. I've been waiting years for more reactors to do more Steve Vai and Joe Satriani songs for example
The uppermost neck is a 12 string that is fret less from the 8th fret, the middle is a normal 7 string and the bottom one is a baa that has the upper strings fretless
Top Neck is a 12 string guitar, but just the first half has frets, which makes the fretless part sound like a mandolin. Used to make the rythm guitar on the song
Middle Neck is a 7 string guitar, mainly for the solo shit.
Bottom Neck is a 4 string Bass, the top middle is fretless as well.
And on the Right with the strings in vertical is the harp, basically he just throws some picks there...
He's 61 by the way...
Steve Via is The Wizard.
Triple neck+harp..insane😮
This is far beyond comun sheepeople and automata clones, but indeed is a manifestation of what humans can do with this divine organic machine 🔥💓🔥
And you see why he’s still king. He’s like I see you doooo and I raise ya
the bass neck looks like a Steinberger-style headless, the top neck is a 12 string with (i think?) MIDI pickups and a fretless board above the ocatve mark, the middle neck is a 6-string setup where he gets his straight-up guitar tones and i have no fucking idea what's going on at the bottom there.
to play all of them at once is indicative of his virtuosity. Steve is ostensibly one of the best guitarists alive at the moment.
