Love these tips!! I'm looking to redo a couple walls in my house now. It's amazing how all of the different variations of white change when you have a wall with a more vibrant wall next to it.
I'm so glad it was helpful Jessica! Yes, the white can change so much in different times of the day too. Always good to test it out. Thanks for watching! Karla
Hmm..I have lower light in my 1880 1 1/2 story log house construction home, only 8 ft ceilings on the main floor, dark brown engineered wood floors with a yellow grain and east, south and west windows. Would Chantilly Lace be the best bet for 3 directions of light as well as lower light because it is neither warm nor cool?
I’m struggling with a north facing living room and huge windows that let in tons of blue cast light. I have warmer tones in the room (rust/brown fireplace, warm gray couch, etc) and am finding a lot of the popular whites are reading too flat, gray, and/or yellow. The cool blue is really emphasizing yellow. I love a vintage yet modern rustic style to balance and my home is 70s farmhouse cabin modern. I’m working with a lot here! 😂
Thank you for the making this video. Since the color can change in different light I will go with simply white. Can that be used for walls, doors and baseboards in all the rooms? Also what color of black did you use on your bottom kitchen cabinets? ❤️
Hi Vera, Simply White is a beautiful color! I would use for walls, doors and baseboards. I'm not sure of that black but Onyx or Black Beauty are good options. Let me know how it goes! Karla
Great video. Pleeeeeease tell me what trim color would or did you use for Chantilly Lace?: OC-65 (LRV: 92.2) ... since the LRV is so high I wouldn't want to use a duller white but I want there to be a visual distinction between wall and baseboard, so brighter baseboards than the white chantilly lace wall.
I like the trim and wall to be the same but if you want the trim brighter just go one level up on a color strip and that will work. Cloud white is very popular for trim. Karla
Hi. I am deep in the whites dilemma. Thanks for your video! Simply White is the existing trim and ceiling in our home. We are doing a complete reno of the kitchen (north facing with some light from the south as well) and have chosen Chantilly Lace cabinets and Empira white countertops as I prefer true whites more than one with a yellow undertone.. BUT would Chantilly lace cabinets nicely pop with Simply White trim and ceiling? If not, maybe best to switch over to Simply White cabinets and choose another countertop?
Your video is inspiring! I've painted the walls of 2 traditional studios that I own, Soft Fern 2144-40 (Benjamin Moore) combined with Always neutral 0559 (D.Vongel - similar to Edgecomb Gray but with lighter LRV of 69). I was wondering which white to prefer for kitchen cabinets. I was thinking Simply White... The ceiling is knotty pine and the floor is light oak. Thank you in adv! (How can I post a pic?!)
Simply white is beautiful for cabinets and have used a few times. It works well with a lot of styles too. I'd suggest testing it first to see how you like it but most often it's a great choice! Let me know how it goes! Karla www.karladreyerdesign.com
great video! could I kindly ask what white or off-white color would you recommend for 2 of my rooms? 1. a north west facing bedroom (one window) that will be converted into a white built in closet for filming content? 2. A south west facing bedroom, one window both rooms have Shaw, desert light carpet (neutral color) its been very difficult to find a video for north west and south west rooms. Thanks in advanced for your help!
We are building, no walls, furniture etc yet. But something has to go on the walls. Especially the shiplap in living/kitchen. I dont want to have to repaint. Also it's winter now and lighting is different. House faces south west. Porch over front. I m struggling with which white and brands. Any suggestions welcomed

Hi! I'm painting my son's nursery and i'm thinking of painting a horizonal half wall. Bottom half using BM Salsa Dancing AF-280. Would you recommend Simply White on the top half and the ceiling? Or any other whites that would work better? Thanks!!
Which of the whites you mentioned would you recommend for the bedroom of a teen? He has upholstered bed, gray with a hint of blue, but has dark wood bedside table and drawer, cream molding and doors. It’s a small bedroom, and the sun hits directly it’s only window all afternoon. Originally I wanted a super light gray but it was so intimidating, some can look purple, some too green, then I thought to just stick to a white, which I’m realizing it isn’t any easier to choose. He is open to all my suggestions and I’m scared to mess things up! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Chantilly lace or simply white make great trim colors. I also like doing the trim color the same as the wall color to make the ceiling appear larger!

Hi Ted -- I would go with a warm white. Cloud white by Benjamin Moore would work or White Dove is another warm white. I'd get small samples to test on the walls and look at it in different times of the day. Let me know how it goes! Karla
I’m torn on a white paint for my north facing master bedroom. I have gray ash oak furniture Gold mirror fixtures and indigo blue velvet chairs. What is the best white color paint that goes with those colors but doesn’t look too stark or too yellow?
Hi Angela -- I would try samples of Simply White and Chantilly Lace. Simply White is warmer so you'd want to see how it looks with the furniture. Let me know how it goes! Karla
I can't decide between Swiss coffee (25% lighter) simply white or white done for our basement. Also undecided about the ceiling color, perhaps chantilly lace or is it too bright?
All of those colours are great! I would test it them out on the wall and see how it looks with lighting. For a basement you may want it to be warmer so my gut says Swiss coffee. Let me know how it goes! Karla
Firmly committed to cavern clay as an accent wall. STILL struggling with deciding on an off white for the other 3 walls in the master bedroom. The room gets plenty of sun. Pure white? White duck? Origami? Any suggestions?
I’m really struggling with this... 😫 I’m currently building right now and decided on Urbane Bronze for my island and Oyster (exclusive to Showplace Cabinets, greige) for my perimeter. I’ll have interior and exterior doors and windows. I have a ton of windows and natural light. My living room is 25 feet of windows. The floor is a light hardwood with a small amount of dark knots. Modern fireplace and stairs with stainless cables. I don’t want anything super bright but don’t want yellow under tones either. Any advice on what would work best?
I really like Simply White. It's a warm white but doesn't have an undertone. I suggest trying a small sample first to see how it looks. Hope that helps! Karla
No one talks about exterior whites. And ugh... it’s so hard. I’ve got like 6 different whites but don’t know how to find a white the not going to blind people driving by. My house get all sun all day. I really like sw pure white and sw snowbound but at noon you need your sunglasses.
Usually Alabaster is listed as being a Sherwin Williams color. BM does have a white called alabaster, but I haven’t noticed it being as popular. They don’t have the same undertones, as far as I can tell.
