The Santa Ana Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) is interested in speaking with witnesses and anyone with information pertaining to completion of the investigation of the following 6/15/21 Newport Beach 73 toll road traffic fatality. Anyone with relevant information is urged to call this CHP office during normal business hours: (714) 567-6000.
The deadly collision on the 73 toll road in Orange County on June 15, fatally injured Vincent Steckler, 62, of Singapore, formerly a Palo Alto resident, renowned for his generous philanthropy - especially involving the Magical Bridge Foundation (nonprofit adaptive playgrounds worldwide), and his global leadership in technology and cybersecurity sectors, including at Symantec Corp., and later, at Avast.
Steckler, driver of the red 1959 Jaguar XK150, was fatally injured at the scene of the crash, just west of John Wayne Airport.
The California Highway Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff's Department conducted investigations to determine the causes of the deadly incident, later arresting 19-year-old Eric Arakelyan, of Glendale, CA, driver of the late model BMW 540i that struck Steckler's
vintage Jaguar, sending it up an embankment where it broke off a highway sign before violently flipping three times after the impact.
Traffic in both directions was shut down on parts of 73 toll road and 55 Freeway for nearly four hours, reopening around 8 p.m., after authorities wrapped up the scene.
Steckler was a heroic local figure, perhaps most appreciatively known for his philanthropic contributions at UC Irvine, his alma mater, where he and his wife Amanda established both the Steckler Charitable Fund - endowing scholarships and fellowships - and the Center for
Responsible, Ethical, and Accessible Technology.

@@ChaseFanatic I realize there was a safety factor not having the proper safety equipment modern vehicles have now. Still an awful thing to see.
cars older than the 2000s should be taken off the streets!
@@yeoldeseawitch That’s not true, many older vehicles are well maintained. I agree on the safety features being taken into consideration and updated.
