  • This is rental car number 78 and today I'm driving the 2018 Hyundai Elantra SE. I like this car, especially considering that it MSRPs for under eighteen thousand dollars. For that price, you get blind side detection, a decent sized touch screen with android auto and apple car play, a backup camera, and a quiet comfortable ride. Some of you might be disappointed by the lack of power/acceleration, but I don't think many people seek out the Elantra for performance. This is a family sedan, with some fun tech features, wrapped up in a decent looking package. I like the 2018 Elantra. I'm not sure I'd buy it for myself, but I'd gladly rent this one again.
    ►SPECS:
    MSRP: $17,950
    2.0L 4-Cylinder Engine
    6-speed automatic transmission
    front wheel drive

    14 gallon fuel tank
    + Fairly quiet a highway speeds
    + Backup camera (automatically lowers volume while in reverse)
    + Only one usb port. 2 cigarette style power ports

      Oooh touch choice. I haven't driven the Yaris in a while, but I remember it definitely feeling very cheap. Maybe that's changed, but the 2018 Elantra doesn't have that same hollow plastic feel. So I'd probably take the Elantra. Then again, the Yaris will probably last longer so....ummmmm....yeah I'll go Elantra. How about you?

That’s pretty good mpg and higher than what they are rated for. I like all the features and look of the car. It’s has a great quality interior and is a nice car. First off, I own a 2017 Elantra Value Edition after a year of research and absolutely love it!!!! The blind spot detection and no LEDs makes me believe you have an SEL. 4:46 is also sounds an alarm on the speakers on the side signaling on if a vehicle is detected along with the flashing. 10:17 there is a pad under the logo to open the trunk on models with a smart key (starting at the next trim being the Value Edition), along with the hands free smart trunk (stand against trunk and wait for 5 second countdown and opens automatically if the car is locked and key is out of range for 30 seconds).

    Thanks for the review. I had a Hyundai Elantra many years ago (it was a 2002) and the price tag was what led me to get it because I sold a more expensive car to pay off school loans. Long story short, it was an ok car with some good pep but I had to take it back to the dealership to get something fixed over and over and over. Back then Hyundai was not manufacturing well-designed cars and to their detriment "Hyundai" became synonymous with the kind of car you just don't want to invest any money in. Times have changed however and these days I would get another Hyundai because they are much better in both design and quality. Of course you can get a much better car from other manufacturers but Hyundai has really closed the gap.

    I bought my 2017 SE Elantra from a Toyota dealer for $11,000- out the door price. Previously a rental car. Was only a year and a half old and had 43,000 miles. Nearly 2 years later has 77,000 miles. No problems with it. Average around 35 to 38 mpg mixed driving. Noticed gas mileage does go down in colder weather, also the heater takes a while to work especially in extreme winter weather. Very easy to change engine oil, there are holes in the skid pad to allow easy access to drain plug and filter. Would definitely recommend.

Those Koreans really do think of everything. You had your fingers on it. Just didn't push upwards enough. And of course you can pop it open with the remote. On mine, with tech package, I just stand behind it for about 3 seconds, and it opens by itself. Iam very pleased with this car.

    Nice review. The typical final selling price for the Elantra SE in my area seems to be about $16,000. with automatic transmission. It gets considerably better gas mileage than the Toyota Corolla, and some reviewers say their real world mileage is the same as the 2018 Civic, which has a CVT and higher published mileage specs. The Elantra engine is Atkinson Cycle, which seems to help make the most of the 6 speed automatic transmission. The Elantra also seems to be slightly quieter than the Civic with a more comfortable ride but less road feel through the steering wheel. The rear drum brakes in the Elantra SE are cheaper to manufacture, but I have not heard any complaints about the breaking ability.

      Honestly they don't really get to pick which trim level they get really, they send out quotes saying what they need, and whichever has the cheapest price, they buy... manufacturers usually try to send models that aren't base models to try and promote their vehicles... they buy them from one dealer in the U.S., and then that dealer ships them the cars, which are ordered and NOT bought off the lot... I enjoyed your review. I've owned my 2018 Elantra SEL since new and I really love it, overall. It's very efficient to own in terms of MPGs and maintenance requirements, while also looking and feeling upscale for the class of car. I have 2 criticisms though: 1) It's a low riding car that has a tendency to scrape the chin on curbs and moderately sloped driveway/parking lot entrances. 2) The 6-spd automatic leaves a lot to be desired in urban driving 40mph and under. Excessive gear hunting and aggressive downshifts. Out on open roads it's very smooth and well behaved.

    I bit the bullet and bought a 2018 SEL. I've only had it a week and put a couple hundred miles on it, but boy am I loving this car! I have a bad back and a bad hip, so seat comfort is vitally important. I have no pain in this car. "Quiet little family sedan" sums it up pretty well. I rides smoothly. In normal acceleration there's barely engine noise at all. I do wish there was a bit less road noise. It's not LOUD, but it's definitely the most prominent interior noise. Wind noise is very low, mostly from around the side mirror. The build quality seems vault-like. The doors are heavy and solid. We'll see how it holds up over time. I find acceleration perfectly adequate. For what I'm used to, I'd even say it feels peppy. In my typical driving, I'm averaging right about 40mpg...what I averaged in my 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage. Phenomenal. What I'm noticing in this car that really impresses me is the attention to little details that you often don't find in "cheap" cars. I like how i was able to adjust how many times my turn signal blinks when i tap the lever to change lanes. I appreciate the handle on the inside of the trunk lid to close it without having to touch the dirty trunk lid itself. If i took the time, I could probably come up with a long list of nice little touches like that.

      The newer Hyundais are fairly reliable, so it's a pretty safe bet. But, if you're in a tight spot financially you can never go wrong with a well maintained Honda Civic or...if you're open to it, older Nissan Leafs sell for under 5k and are pretty reliable. You'd get a cheap vehicle, save on gas, and have an interesting fun car. Just a thought. As for buying from Enterprise, I think it's a good idea. They maintain their cars pretty well and I believe that back up their sales with a warranty, so it should be a safe bet. Anyway, good luck! Let me know what you end up buying.

    Your rental would actually be an SEL since it has the alloy wheels, touch screen, and a few other extras. My aunt and uncle have one like this in bright blue and like it. Although since this one has no trim level on it, it might still be an SE with "Fleet Only" options like the touch screen and the alloy wheels. I'm leaning more toward SEL though.

    The car you're showing in your video is an SEL. not an SE. The difference can be noted in the Android auto and apple carplay screen and also the mid screen display between the instruments. And also blind side mirrors. Plus I noticed the car you're driving has Alloy rims the AC only comes with steel rims with a plastic metallic-looking Hub cover. So the Rent-A-Car that you're showing for your video is definitely SEL not an SE.

    I like what this car offers, but if the acceleration is slow as the Veloster, then it's a no for me. I was deciding between the Elantra, and Corolla. I think I'll go with the Corolla since I'll keep my car for a while. My 2012 Toyota Yaris currently has 140,000 and no problems whatsoever. My Yaris will be going to my sister.

      Wait, hold on. You went from an Elantra to a Challenger? Wow that's a change! Well done sir. And I agree, the Elantra is a really nice car, but it's main problem is acceleration. But honestly, I think it's built more for comfort than speed. And yes, I have driven a Challenger. I had a bright "mango" orange SXT and LOVED it. Take a quick look here: czcams.com/video/SJuZ1FrCi8c/video.html

      @flipfloplogic Před 6 lety +2

      Oh ok thanks. I will. I'll be 50 in august and what I love about the challenger is how it reminds me of cars from my youth. Its big, heavy and has a beastly v8 engine. The seats are VERY comfortable. The 18 speaker stereo sounds fantastic (it also has surround sound). I remember a time when cruise control and power windows were an expensive luxury not to mention very rare.
      I agree the Elantra is built for comfort. I guess I grew tired of it.

    Hello 100 Rental Cars. If you were spending your own hard-earned dollars for a compact family sedan, would you choose the Elantra, or the Corolla? Whenever I drive a Corolla, I'm impressed by the refinement of its engine. Although neither powerful nor sporty, it works with a smoothness that speaks to its engineering quality. Even in the last generation Corolla with the 4 speed auto, I could get 30/40 mpg city/highway, which is better than its EPA rating. On the other hand, I like the Elantra's interior design.

    • @francismartinez6049
      @francismartinez6049 Před 6 lety +3

      azaz911c from past experiences and word of mouth ,the Hyundais do not hold up over time like the corollas. If you want to keep the car long term (8+ years) then I would definitely get the Corolla. But if your going to trade it your car after 5-7 years, the Elantra can be a decent car. Realize though, many of the Hyundais have had recalls on their GDI engines, and Hyundais refused to stand behind their work. I'd definitely go Corolla on that one.

    • @616civicmt8
      @616civicmt8 Před 6 lety +1

      Brian Lawrance Even if he’s going to keep it 5-7 years the corolla might be the better choice because Hyundai’s depreciate quickly

      @azaz911c Před 6 lety +1

      Yes. I used to have one of the older ones too and enjoyed it very much. Now that I've become older, however, I find the Civic ride quality and NVH at little harsh for my liking, and prefer something a little more soft riding for everyday commuting.

    • @francismartinez6049
      @francismartinez6049 Před 6 lety

      azaz911c if you want something that rides soft, get yourself a Camry 4 cylinder . They ride much softer than even a Corolla. Get one with low miles and it can still last you a long time. Plus,the newer Camry 4-cylinders get better gas milage than the corollas from 10 years ago.
