For some reason I always feel a sense of joy watching your videos. Please keep the discus content coming I am preparing myself for a discus planted tank. Also more content on the sump and plumbing would be great
Thanks you!
Thanks for the effort you put in to bring us no nonsense advice 👌
Some great tips there G man! Much enjoying (still got a min or two to go and will watch till the end, as always bud :)) Gotta say I LOVE your display aquarium, its very impressive!!!
Videos done (sorry for the second comment); final thoughts I would take your display aquarium over ours any day, the cabinet, the size, the scape, everything is perfect! The tips are all great, but I was mesmerized by the amazing aquarium lol Take care :)
Too kind!
Fun video! Looking forward to the next viewer suggested stuffs.
Always cool to see something that is specifically done to help someone.
Another great informative video, I have been going through all your old ones ,with all the ups and downs :-)
I've got a tank same size I had chiclids acara etc rehomed them all was so over the aggression only now have 2 angels left and some plecs seriously considering discus so beautiful
Thanks for sharing with us, plecos are kind of destructive, but they are cool. The only thing that I don't care for is the cave, it just throws the look off, not to take away from the tank though its a beaut and your doing a great job with it.
Yes - it's a bit of a trial to see if it would solve the problem, then I could hide it better - so might come out!
Thanks for the info!!🤠
Your a peaceful fellow. Best to you !
Wonderful looking tank Healthy discus. Needs more plants though.. Peace from Berkshire.
Lovely tank and I agree with your process 100%.
Great vid!
Glad you like it!
Another top video there, Gordo. Have you thought about fitting a float valve to the end of that HMA line and adding it straight to the sump? You won't have to turn the pump of (or for as long) and it'll give you more redundancy :)
Not for water changes - but have a similar plan as an auto top off system.
Nice, I was wondering if the bio home media you use is helping to keep your nitrates down a bit helping to reduce your nitrates? Also have you heard of sera crystal clear I find it works great and is so easy to clean and reuse for ages
Beautiful Tank👍🏻
Thank you! 👍
Wonderful tank. I have been watching your videos for a long time! I have an hma I just got and was wondering how long it takes to fill up your tank after those 40-50% water changes. Thanks!!
Takes about 2 - 3 hours for 50%, but mainly because I run a very low flow rate (bad water pressure rather than choice!) as I'm routing the water from my fish room under the house. The cartridges with your HMA should come with a min/max flow rate (generally 4lpm through to 20 for the bigger ones)
Tanks looking great! You still got all the angels or just a few in there now? Was there any reason you took some out (if you have!)
I only have a few - of the original 10 I gave half away and lost a couple over the years.
Make a video on how much to feed discus. My nitrates get too high to only do WC once a week. So if I am over feeding I would like to know how much. Ty for your vids.
The discus are looking amazing! The tetra are Aslestes something, seems their scientific name is Brycinus longipinnis? I've seen them at a zoo once.
I use pond filter floss and chop in half that's for external filters though. Did you mention you just use tap? or do you use HMA?
I have a HMA hooked up to a thermostatic valve to give me water to fill the tank after a water change. Brycinus Longipinnis - yes I think thats them (but you know how good I am with 'proper' names!)
How do you manage keeping water at temp while filling up during water change?
I have a heavily planted tank with discus,I only topmoff nonwaterchange.
Hi Graham what do you do about gravel/sand cleaning in your tank to siphon up all the poo they create?
I try to angle the sump return so it blows most of the crud into the overflow - might have to add a powerhead to get a couple of dead spots, but it works quite well
Hi, nice fishes and tank, you're right about your routine. You may improve things as you mentioned as well at the end.
First I would test the water, and would explain it in such video. It is important because of the base determining what you can get in the tank and what you'll have to do. Based on your tap water params and the fishes (essentially biomasse and herbivore/carnivore) you want, you'll define water preparation effort and life support system / water change interval..
You don't vacuum clean your sand?
The sump is good option, but you'd improve it with roll paper filter and moving bed, both in water quality and duration between 2 maintenance. I explain a nice diyaquariumfilters in a website you can find. Also you can check how to automate aquarium and water preparation then change with miaquarium website you can find.
You could prepare you water in advance in a reservoir, e.g. with proper RODI system. Salt and temperature mixing before. I use a DC pump Aqua Medic 5.3 to change 200L in 5min.. water simply prepared before. This is also a security if the tank has an issue e.g. with medicine and you have to quickly react..
You don't use UV?
Despite all my suggestions, I find the tank and especially your fish healthy and nice looking! Safely not always the case with some CZcamsrs struggling with discus..
I don't really have to vacuum the sand - I use the sump return pipes and (until it died) a wavemaker to pick up most of anything on the sand and move it towards the overflow. No UV either - not against it but never felt I needed it. Everything can always be made better but as per the point at the end of the video this works for me, and it is 'good enough' rather than the best!
@@AquariumAdventures Ok, then I'll spare time to write feedback for next videos..
Have you had good luck with the angles and discus I'm scared to do that. Ever angle I've had seem mean
Love your amaizing discus tank.I have a question for you.
What is maximum time to keep filter off to do maintenance in aqwarium before I kill all my beneficial bacteria ? 💚 Thank you
If kept wet or damp, the bacteria will last a long time. Hours if not days
Thank you
I test my water directly before doing water change. I only do water changes once per week. In my opinion, people who are cleaning their tank and changing water every day over cleaning and this will only cause problems when the fish do you get a disease. They will all just die because they live in in overly sterile conditions. But that’s just my opinion.
Hmmmmmmm lol
You mentioned checking water parameters, do you still use CO2 on that tank? Did that cause any pH challenges?
I'm not using CO2 at the moment (not that heavily planted) but when I was, certainly had to keep an eye on PH 👍
Love your videos on discus have a question for you. I just bought four discus but they’ve been hiding most of the time it’s been three days. The only thing that was a little bit off with a PH but would they be anything else I could do to make them feel comfortable have a lot of Driftwood and plants. Have a 75 gallon.
New discus can and will hide for a time, and it might take weeks to get them more comfortable - dither fish (smaller fish always out in the open) can help, but also more discus, as they feel more comfortable in bigger groups in my experience. Unless PH is waaaay off, I've found that they will adapt pretty well.
@@AquariumAdventures thank you 🙏
I have 4 in the 75 and 14 carnal tetras how many discus would be good. Thanks for your time and videos 🤩
I like to recommend 6 Discus as a minimum in any tank - can't say for sure just by adding a couple more they will immediately stop hiding, lots of other factors too (is it a busy area of the house for example). Might just need time 👍
@@AquariumAdventures thanks again subscribing today 👍
What do you think of a drip feed system
Love them - used to run my whole fish room on a drip system, and will eventually get around to doing it again!
Does the HME remove chloramines? Also, do you not gravel vac?
The HMA (Heavy Metal Axe) _can_ remove chloramins, but you need to look at the specific cartridges and flow rates to be sure they are rated for it.
So is that RO water then that you refill the aquarium with?
Its HMA water (basically the first three stages of a RO filter) which basically just removed chlorine and other nasties without going as far as RO which removes EVERYTHING and would need to add minerals.
Haven’t done a water change in over 6 months. Can’t figure out why people take cycled water out an put uncycled in.
