    That Stander try was constructed beautifully. Sexton faking the wrap around as a decoy for Aki and then Furlong with the hands of a fucking 9 to put him through

    Absolutely deserved championship and grand slam by Ireland. They were head and shoulders above anyone else in the competition.

      Wouldn't say head and shoulders, the teams are so close nowadays bar Italy. But for sure they were the better side this year.

      Being a Wales fan, I'm proud Wales scored double the points against the Irish anyone else could. But the Irish were head and shoulders above the competition this year. They had very few weaknesses and they ironed them out as they went. Their execution was meticulous, they wore down every opposition by sustained pressure, phase by phase, making little to no mistakes. Very few ruck penalties, always flexibly adjusting to the ref's style. They're some intelligent side, that knows what makes them strong and sticks to their gameplan. Their only weakness is, that they have no depth at 9 and 10. Just one Sexton/Murray injury separates them from dire straits. And that's not something they can fix in a year. Every single other top side (except Australia with Foley being their only decent 10) have multiple options at 10 and 9.

    I didn't watch this game live and so I thought England were a lot worse. In reality their intensity was on point, but we're just on the wrong side of it, the Irish are worthy winners and proper gamesmanship is needed to beat them. England should have taken points on offer and just stuck at it, when Ireland's defense is on point like that attack of the highest level is needed, Daly's second try is a great example. England are too emotional with their decision making atm and some work needs to be done. Congrats Ireland, we need the Celtic nations as strong as can be , it really strengthens NH rugby and as hard as it is being an England fan it's the best thing for us too.

    • @bridkerrigan3246
      @bridkerrigan3246 Před 6 lety +7

      absolutely ludicrous statement. healy, furlong, henderson, stander, obrien when he's fit, murray, sexton and henshaw are all without a doubt world class, and you could make a case for a load of others too

    • @saltsalty3807
      @saltsalty3807 Před 6 lety

      They don't. World class refers to people on par with DC, Wilkinson, Barrett, McCaw, Reid, B Vunipola etc. Ireland have some good players, but do you really think this Sexton Murray thing is still gonna work perfectly by the time the WC comes?

    • @bridkerrigan3246
      @bridkerrigan3246 Před 6 lety +10

      Salt Salty are you really trying to say that Johnny Sexton is just a "good" player. Jesus christ, well lets look at his season then. Did not lose a single game for Leinster and Ireland when he started (only one he lost he played 20 minutes in an Ireland team missing 8 starters vs Aus), won a Grand Slam, triple crown, six nations, pro 14 and European cup, 11 test victories, and one 40m drop goal. And why the hell would his partnership with murray not work come the world cup anyhow, its hardly gonna break down ffs. if you want to delude yourself that ireland dont have world class players go ahead, but theyve beaten everybody in their path this year, and have some of the absolute best players on the planet

    • @saltsalty3807
      @saltsalty3807 Před 5 lety

      What I mean by the partnership struggling is due to injury, with the amount of game time they both play the odds of one or both of them picking up injuries on the way to the world cup are high. Another reason is that because of their recent success, in which the Sexton Murray combo played a large role in, teams are going to start targeting them, looking for their weaknesses, and they may well get found out. (As of August 28th 2018, Murray has sustained a serious Neck injury, and is a race to be even be fit to play by the November internationals. That right there is my point. Without Murray, I see Ireland having much less of a chance at beating the ABs.)
      Murray for sure is world class, probably the best fly half in the world. But if you are gonna say Sexton is world class, then so is Farrell, because everything you listed in favor of Sexton, Farrell has done equally as well, bar the Oz tour, where he was the figure head to winning a 3-0 whitewash. Tell me anything Farrell does that Sexton does better and I'll be surprised, also keep in mind that Farrell is 6 years younger than Sexton, and is only 24 international test points behind, and achieved equally as much as Sexton at club and international level.
      As for the rest that you mentioned, they are very good players, very good, but they are not world class.
      Out of the whole six nations, the only player who I would say truly deserves the world class status, is Conor Murray. (and possibly Hogg, but I would still rather Ben Smith at fullback if I had the choice.)
      Ireland are the best in Europe at the moment, without a doubt, but winning the six nations doesn't make half your team world class.
      Good luck Ireland in the Autumn, you will need it to beat the ABs, as will any other team in the world.
      From an English fan.

    • @bridkerrigan3246
      @bridkerrigan3246 Před 5 lety +1

      dont get me wrong, I know Farrell is a great player, without a doubt. But in terms of the here and now, he doesnt come near Sexton. And im not saying Farrell isnt world class either, because I know he is. But Sexton is the only 10 who comes near Barrett at present, his experience and game management are peerless, and the last 3 times theyve played each other, not only has Sextons team won, he won the fly half battle every single time. And the rest arent world class? Furlong is 100% world class, even the Kiwis say he is the best tighthead on the planet, so if youre saying Furlong isnt world class then youre saying no tighthead anywhere right now is world class. Same goes for O'Brien, theres no openside flanker better than him anywhere when hes not injured (again, even the kiwis have raved about him) and the others, well, if you dont think they are then no problem, but they are, you dont become the number 2 team in the world with no world class players. They dont have to be as good as players like Wilkinson Carter or O'Driscoll to be world class, those players are legendary status, theyre the best of the best, you can be world class without being a legend

  • @brianmsahin

    Ireland were fantastic, deserved winners. Wales were excellent, and Scotland and France were also good. Both of them will improve. England were just off the boil for this championship and it was disappointing from a competition viewpoint and though nice for us Irish fans, I was imagining an epic Grand Slam decider between England and Ireland at Twickenham with both teams in contention. What a game that would have been!! In the end personally I felt more relaxed watching this game, with the exception of the Italy game. After the first quarter it was obvious that England weren't on form. No nails were bitten, the edge of the seat was never called for, and an extra couple of pints of Guinness were imbibed. :) I'm sure England will get their form back before the World Cup.

    England being outplayed and outclassed by a better team. Glad to see the Irish playing good rugby with so many ideas on the pitch. Small up and under kicks and running so many channels in attack. England as always relying on big forwards to do the damage and glad to see they got what they deserve. Scotland played the same as Ireland did to England too and played creative rugby and they sent him home to think again.

      This population size argument is pathetic. They are all professional players of the highest standard. If anything Ireland are the lucky ones right now as they have a club system owned by the IRFU, meaning they can rest their top players whenever they feel like it. England and France on the other hand, have a system that involves many more clubs that are all privately owned, meaning that their top players are constantly being played week in week out to suit the clubs aspirations. The clubs in England and especially in France, couldn't give a shit about the international scene, all they care about is getting the results to keep their sponsors impressed so they keep making money.
      Ireland and New Zealand have similar sized player pools. They have similar systems, in each case, the clubs are owned by the IRFU and the NZRFU.
      New Zealand and Ireland are both doing it right.
      It all came down to the point when The IRFU took ownership of clubs in Ireland, and made Leinster, Munster, Ulster and Connacht the four main teams, and the rest of the clubs all fed into those four. When the RFU of England tried to do a similar thing, due to the fact that the clubs had a lot more money in comparison to the Irish clubs back then, the club owners all refused and threatened to start a new league and contract the players to that, making them all unavailable for national selection.

    • @lochlainnw
      @lochlainnw Před 5 lety

      I agree that you can't use population size as an excuse. BUT just one thing, the player pools in NZ are Ireland are nowhere near the same. The irfu skews numbers, even counting players who play for a school team and a club team as 2 players. They do this to buff up their numbers and increase their funding. It's not a big deal but just take the Irish player pool estimates with a grain of salt

    To be honest, I wouldn't say there's a difference between the English, and any other nation when it comes down to being arrogant, people always say that to make themselves feel better, but in reality, they are no better, and that is being showcased in true fashion in this comment section.

      They won the previous 2 tournaments. And they were excellent against Ireland, very good second half performance especially with 3 tries. Losing a few is just part of sport. Scotland had the rub of the green on the day and they were very close to beating france at the end. They are still a good side with lots of very good results under Eddie Jones,

      columkenn.. you sir are deluded.. take last year italy at home, france at home, scotland at home, wales were winning but a lousy clearance at the end of the game that failed to find touch allowed england to make a winning try..then they lost against ireland.. the writing was on the wall from the start of this tournament.. englands lack of discipline was causing problems.. Eddie jones creates teams in his own image he is an undisciplined kind of guy and that reflects on his players.. who in their right mind would make the player with the worst discipline record in the country a captain for a start?
      There lies the root of Englands problem..

      Chill, they will come back well, its obvious what we need to work on and tbh if we had beaten Ireland, some of our flaws will have gone unseen. If anything we are more likely to do well in the world cup because of this. Our management has plenty of time to iron out our flaws now, we have SA in the summer, and then a tough Autumn that will really put us in our place before the world cup. Ireland on the other hand, are gonna have to sustain this level of performance up until the world cup, and that could be quite tough, I hope they haven't peaked too early, I'm sure they will be fine though.

    • @daddybear442
      @daddybear442 Před 6 lety

      Ted Atlas.. Not with Eddie Jones in charge.. you must love the history books but that isnt where your team is at right now.. you cannot dwell in the past that is where martin Johnson went wrong.. so you get over 20 grand slams but with Jones in charge you wont even get out of the world cup group playing in the way they did this series.. ask stewart lancaster.. he failed with a better side than the current one..

    • @daddybear442
      @daddybear442 Před 6 lety

      Mike Theman, Jones is an arrogant son of a bitch who cannot see his failings.. Time and time again he has juggled the engine room he has ford in ford out.. danny care in danny care out.. wigglesworth in.. wigglesworth out.. ben youngs in ben youngs out.. farrell at inside center.. farrell at fly half.. none of these players are world class, Farrell is one piss poor fly half but has a good boot so he is accomodated in the team, the entire half back line is unable to control the game and this creates problems when going forward.. I dont think there any world class fly and scrum halfs available for England selection right now so that is a real problem..
      the ball carriers are way too slow and lack the mobility of those in the better teams which is why they surrender possession to opponents via penalties more than most teams.
      The Forwards are not free from criticism either. Dan Cole surely must have played his last game so must Dylan Hartley, both have been good servants but are way down the scale when looking for a world class front row.
      Dont get me wrong England will win more games than they lose but with this current squad they will not trouble the top teams

    Not trying to take anything away from Ireland, it was a good performance and they fully deserved the win and grand slam.
    The first try was a clear knock on, you can see in the clip, and being at twickenham, they played the try again on the big screen from a different angle halfway through the game, and kearney clearly knocked it forward, and the whole stadium knew that too from the reaction. TMOs should stop focusing on the groundings and look at the whole picture, same issue with the Wales game.
    Bundee Aki is extremely lucky he wasn't carded. Almost the same incident as SBW on the lions tour for which he received a red card. No arm tackle, shoulder to the head should at the very least be a yellow. Refs need to start being consistent. No way that deserved a warning. You all know that no matter what you say.
    Anyway, I doubt any of that would have made a difference due to the immense Irish performance on the day. They played great all tournament and have some very fine players. Fully deserved win. Well Done.

      With your selective memory of the refereeing injustices, I guess you didn't pick up on Mike Brown's one handed offload for Elliot's "try", which was clearly a forward pass (need to be consistent with your acknowledgement of knock-ons). Even Lawrence Dallaglio made the comment on ITV that his offload looked like it went forwards, when the 1st replay showed the action from above (ITV did not show it again). There were a couple of late tackles and shoulders used by English players too, notably late charges on Murray ( English tactic to take out the out no.9, picked up on refs mic. ( www.sportsjoe.ie/rugby/referee-microphone-england-players-conor-murray-154383) and a clear shoulder charge on Rob Kearney while trapped in a ruck with ball in hand. All I can say is that video referees are in general a blessing. England get away with far less professional fouls than in previous years, as reflected by the penalty count. Sexton and Murray are always prepared to be bombarded with late tackles every time we play England, but thankfully our forwards afforded them more protection in most cases

    • @gerardlinehan3547
      @gerardlinehan3547 Před 6 lety +1

      For the record , Itojo was there, he was taking out O'Mahony in the air for the second try, ref played advantage but if the play had broken down penalty, possibly a card, Brown and May were lucky Stockdale scored because either or both could have been carded for clambering over him while he didnt have the ball (penalty try to boot). When England stop giving away penalties they may be really good, but its been in their DNA for years....

    The Ireland v England game of 2017 was a classic of how not to play rugby union. If a coach doesn't know that the greatest teams in history won because they kept the ball and attacked which did several things. Teams who attack are in a position to score a try or get a penalty kick. Defending teams are more likely to give away a penalty or get injured. This isn't rocket science, this has been known since the 1970's. Why do rugby union teams give the ball away by kicking it too the opponents. That is crazy and doesn't make sense. Would an ice hockey team give the puck away to their opponents. No way they would. The attacking team are more likely to score and if they are winning they run the clock down. Keeping the ball in any sport has to be a major advantage. I do not get how a coach could endorse giving the ball to the other team. It's crazy. Haha.

And if you want to be really picky, Ireland's third try only came about from the try line being extended at at a manager level not a team level.
