- This is one epic chase and switching video you don't want to miss! I caught up to the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad in Pembine, WI at the woodyard where they ran into MANY PROBLEMS before they were able to get the train together to head back north! This is a typical day of railroading...

I’m pretty sure I’d have had a few things to say to the loaders who didn’t see fit to load the cars consecutively. That’s a LOT of unnecessary work because of what I think is just plain stupidity on the lumber company’s part. Great job on the video. It’s nice to see the actual working side of railroading as opposed to run-bys. Thanks for sharing this with the non-railroaders. It’s not a glamorous job in any way, shape, or form! Been there. Done that.
That conductor earns his money a lot of walking.
This is the part of railroading that I like
Enjoyed the video...a good reminder of all the work that they do to put together trains and get the cars moving to where they need to go.
Wow, this was an epic video! I think this is probably your best video ever. Very interesting and entertaining.
A great video today, Jason. Enjoy your weekend, and see you on the next! 🙂👍🇺🇸
Wow, that was EPIC Jason. That poor conductor earned his crust today for sure!! When he first pulled the logs out the yard i could see what was coming, I'm ex railway too. 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
I enjoy my career on the railroad but Jason is absolutely right. The jobs we do are not as easy as it looks. The switch lists we're given have to be followed to the letter sometimes because of train compliancy, placement, and also because of road switching order. Also, the brakes can slow movement but not entirely if the cars are on air. Of course i work for BNSF, we can apply 2 handbrakes and shove or pull and it will still move but your ears will pay for it when it comes past you or you have to ride that car (i personally won't do that if i'm riding the last car on a pull or shove). There might have been some angle cocks closed if the engineer couldn't move those cars, that's normally the issue. Also for jobs like that BNSF usually have 3 man crews on jobs like that. I worked on both agreements (Santa fe and CB&Q/BN) and there's a Foreman and Helper Conductor and Engineer on yard jobs and for road switcher/local turn jobs on the CB&Q/BN agreement consists of a Road and Brakeman Conductor and of course Engineer. Road crews is just two person crews, Conductor and Engineer. Sorry for the long comment but i like to explain it clearly.
"I think I can I think I can, nope, ain't got enough tractive effort. I guess I can't." Great switching action with some real hard core railroading. Great video, thanks Jason!
Boy I would love to see 66 it is 100 here in SA Good video
Lol 66 degrees..8 days ago in video. And rain...lucky. .Here in Texas it's been 110 degrees..no wind..no rain in 11 weeks.😊 take care.enjoying the videos.
I enjoy switching! Thanks for that!
A great full length video
Wow that was an epic video. Thanks for recording it for us to watch. 1 hr 12minutes awesome!
Good video Jason! Enjoyed it a lot, Thats what makes switching even on my model train set, sorting out the cars
That was a really good video, Jason, I bit that worker was really tired, and slept back to the freight yard., Have a great weekend, Jason.
But wait, there's more!
168 tops watchers - that's a huge crowd, Jason. Congratulations to that successful premier 🎉 thanks for putting the effort forth 🙏
Great video Jason so interesting & love seeing the gorgeous scenery around the area where you live. Thank you. Greetings from the UK. ❤😊
Great video Jason..... I watch the whole thing without FF any part!!
Wow! This is a real railroading video! Thanks for your efforts on a warm busy day!
6 rail cars. Then 1 rail car. Then 18 rail cars twice
Thank you. Great train activities today
I enjoyed that video👍👍
I agree with you.
We is still here Jason! They get paid by the hour...
Thanks Jason, fabulous video today.
Jason I hung in here for the whole time, it was like the lumber yard wasn't ready for ELS cars overloaded, some not loaded it sounds like poor communication problem
wow Jason this was an awesome catch of Penn Central 2.0 lol thanks and io love the long videos awesome
We're all still here Jason ... until the end!!! I had to go and get a cup of tea and a butter tart!!
Like the switching videos. best part of railroading. Thanks for the excellent video.
Nice job
One excellent Video..great work. loved every second as love shunting. have a great one.
This was a very interesting video. I know you took a lot of time doing this one but it really shows how the crew has to work on some of the days. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Nope, it wasnt that the locos couldn't pull the train because weight, it was because they didn't wait for the brakes on the cars to be properly pressurized, so they can be released.
In other words, impatience on the part of the crew. That's why they ended up increasing idle RPM to over 1200 the second time they tried pulling the loaded cut of cars.
Thanks for the long video!
This is a good one
Another great detailed video by Jason. Explanations included.
Great video Jason ... thanks again for doing all the videoing and sharing with those railfans who can't be there with you. Have a good Labour Day weekend.
You too worked hard !
Watched the whole thing. Perfect migraine video interesting but no thought required. Subscribed
That conductor put in his time, and so did you Jason. Nice video.
This was quite the marathon.
Interesting video although sometimes I wish you'd make like a basketball coach and whip out a whiteboard and diagram us the play.
Nice video Jason!
One awesome video. Love those switching videos.
That whole siding is full of traction problems. It just rained on top of long grass and weeds and that siding May well be partially muddy ruts. Also guaranteed large chunks of bark fall underneath the cars and the famous did you remember to release the hand brakes. Right off the bat those first two cars are overloaded and not just a little bit. While the car may not be overloaded by weight the height should not exceed the ends of the cars. Sending them out would make the cars extra top-heavy and could even result in them tipping over much less having the logs slide off. As for the three empty Center beams they were doing the Alter cars in reverse. Just kidding. Probably just ran out of room to leave them so cycle them back. That may be your longest video but with the information and humor and bless you for going out in the rain it was great entertainment
Great video thanks Jason
GREAT video today! I love the switching action... kind of like the old switching puzzles in 'Trains' magazine... Your videos always tell a story and are so well edited. Great job on this one, especially!! (I like your extended videos... I have the time to watch and appreciate...)
Thx for the bonus video Jason!!!
Wow Man that was what I call railroad track show Never saw so much cool stuff. Thanks for doing this for us From Highland falls New York

Cool video 😎 Jason..cheers and thanks for sharing 😊👍
No problem 👍
With 2 locos they can do anything...
I enjoy watching your videos
I enjoyed as always Jason
Can we get some work shop video I like the size of the shop
I love you videos and I also live in Michigan too
Partial load!!!
need a road unit
WI / MI have any laws on how long grade crossings can be blocked? I believe some states have 20 minute limits….
Why do they blow twice when crossing the CN line Jason? Thanks for a great video. I watched the whole thing. Thanks for the bonus video! Have a great weekend!
Hello 😊🖐️🇵🇱 Warszawa Dzień dobry Tobie 👍🚆
Great switching video Jason, I enjoyed that!
good train video
A bit confused. At 26:00 the engines are in the lead after they dropped the string of empties. At 43:17 the empties are back.
Yup - a couple more moves to break out the 2 partial loads.
Thanks for the Maggaaaa Video Jason!
Good video Jason
Great video(s)!
isnt this the same place where another train had trouble getting the cars started?
Love all of your videos, will keep watching..
Why didn't just leave the empty at siding where left the other train then pick up the loaded ones.
It would be much easier if they would let you ride on the engine an film jason.🤣😂😂🤣 Much kooler
At the bottoms of steeper inclines, maybe have 1 or 2 standby engines they can add on?
Jason, you should have a little portable radio receiver to listen what the guys are saying.
in my Backyard is a railroad and when Norfolk Southern would come thru it used to bring utility poles on the bulkhead Flatbeds until the place closed now it's just covered Hoppers and tank cars but great video I love seeing this
were they using both engines? seemed like they were only using one engine
Big boy steam engine would pull that no problem
Will it also be feasibile to get a third locomotive to pull the weight also?
Been watchin" 4 60min...
Lotta tracks hiding in the grass...
Great video & catch Jason can I give you a special shout-out in a video
AFAIK all locos have a sanding. even old steam locos... I saw a video where a railfan excursion with a steam loco in the southeast somewhere, a 4-8-4, could not make it up a hill. They got sand from somewhere and hand sanded the rails and the steam loco finally creeped up the hill. Guessing if they where running faster they could have made it the first time.
Jason ... his left ditch light from our view, didn't look right ... was it on? Thanks for a great video Jason.
Burned out. Another video shows it as well.
Why the holes in the side of the gondola cars?
Mice?
I think that was the longest video from you so far. Steven Sipes
I'll trade my 105 for your 66 anyday.
Plus walkin', getting dirty, dangerous ... but generally good pay, retirement.
As an old UPRR conductor, I wouldn’t take the 2 overloaded cars….
I concur
Watched whole video ! Great job ! Bob P.
I.think.they.need.more.engine.power
Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad
160.290
160.320
161.310
161.550
Is this because the locomotives didn't have enough power to pull them or it's because of the weight of the cars?
Yeah - the whole thing so far.
The potholes are really bad in the UP.
That's a lot of weight for those 2 dinky locomotives.
Everytime they spin the wheels that puts a flat spots on the track, not good.
Good one, as usual. Are those logs pine?
Yes
I noticed you cut off filming sometimes which is okay! Question is how much total time was taken?
Over 3 hours of footage that day.
Good audio to hear FRED disconnected...
4 for them hard and you more logs
