Trains in and out of San Diego January 2024 - Train horns galore in the quiet zone!

In mid-January, the FRA noticed that several crossings within the quiet zone in downtown San Diego were not up to par with federal regulations, which resulted in the quiet zone being suspended for about two weeks or so. I decided to head down to get some train action downtown on 1-23-24. It definitely brought back memories hearing the trains sound off while arriving and departing from the Santa Fe Depot. I tried to go other days as well but unfortunately I was busy and I thought about going back down a second day while the train noise was alive, however about 2 or 3 days after I went down, the safety issues with the crossings were resolved which meant that the quiet zone could go back into effect

Train 12: Amtrak 562 with SC-44 2118 and cab car 6907. This train was running an hour and 10 minutes late due to mechanical issues leaving LA and somehow 564 got in front of it

I took Coaster 637 back to Carlsbad Village. Would have liked to stay longer but while recording Amtrak 785 my camera died so had to call it a day after that. But I was glad to hear the horns downtown at least once before the quiet zone went back into effect!
