Second night of joint testing on the NJ Racetrack. Speeds start fairly slow and pick up as the night progresses until track speeds of 125 mph / 165 mph are reached. Whoever is on these test trains is killing it with the horns. 9750 especially.

In addition, if you have an extreme pro quilling it, I consider it nearly an R160B or like some subway metro.
Love seeing all the Avelia Liberty's being put through their paces. Sneaking out of the darkness at 4:02 caught me off guard.

Some engineers (usually freight) as a courtesy, turn their headlights off at night for a few seconds as they're approaching a train coming on the opposite track. More common years ago.

I love the hhp-8s and am so happy to see them in service. I must say I do wish they were under their own power.

The horns on the new Acelas have a cool Doppler effect.
That's the thing: Even the regular trains run at pretty high speeds on that corridor.
Nice to see Amtrak getting to work with all their toys on the NEC late at night. I'm here in NJ, and a regular Amtrak user.

Is the HHP8 used on the entire northeast regional for turnarounds, or is it only Boston-DC? When is the Avelia going into service? it looks about ready. Good shots!
It’ll be use on the Keystone service the hhp-8c and avelia liberty will be in service later this year
The HHP-8s are going to replace the old Metroliner cab cars on Keystones and the Ethan Allen Express.
EAX does not have overhead wires

Because day traffic is pretty busy.
So they don’t get in the way of revenue traffic

To the people wondering why they can’t swap the horns on the Avelias, the horns are under the nose. There is no room to fit a K5 under there.
Anything other than those damn European horns ! Maybe not a K5 variant but even a 3 chime would be better.

if we wanted to reach speeds that high we would have to build high speed rail. the northeast corridor is the best amtrak’s got in terms of speed and efficiency and even those rails can’t handle 225
The engineers on the Liberty must be Indian Train fans ....these loco pilots of India at night become this noisy when crossing Multiple stations at a stretch.....

Amtrak doesn't need 70 sprinters to make service. There are more sprinters than there were HHP8s and AEM7s combined

There were talks about repearing to HHP-8's to running condition with a lower gearing seat up for MOW trains. I don't know if it is happening anymore.

So they just gutted out the HHPs? No passenger space and gangway to the rest of the train fitted which is bare minimum for a cab car. Dumbest conversion ever

The Liberty trains not only sound like pansies compared to the regular trains (need Nathan horns on them to be taken seriously) they're the most hideous trains in North America! I almost can't believe they're running on Amtrak rails. They look fragile AF, as though someone could blow on it and derail it. I don't know what Alstom was thinking when they designed these piecces of crap. Ugh! Bring back the manly trains Amtrak is known for!

Idk what they were thinking when they made the passenger cars not line up with the power cars, and why are they using a euro horn, we have the best horns
They were made by Alstom which is a European company so expect a different design when you ask a European company to make a train for the USA. Maybe ask General Motors next time
@@trainspotterinkent2984Alstom made the original Acela as well in collaboration with Bombardier. The horn is just the result of Amtrak management trying to “be more European” because they think that will draw in more riders.

The use of articulated trucks under the cars is a big mistake. If there is one major problem with ONE car then the ENTIRE train is out of service. That is beyond STUPID !
People in the area will have issues with those horns, too. In this country I bet not many people will recognize the sound, hence it's a safety issue.
