Scotland - How to make a kilt

- We were at Kilt Rock on the Isle of Skye where we learned how a Highlander would make his kilt. We weren't with this Rabbies tour group but the tour guide welcomed us to join in on his demonstration. He was really a lot of fun. We all kind of wished we had been on his tour. The music you hear is the Skye Boat Song by The Lions Rampant.

This guy is fabulous. He's got the real highlander sense of humour, i absolutely love it .
Does his bum look big in this, is the line my grandfather always used when he put on a kilt, and it always made me laugh to tears.
This is how a kilt should be worn, and i don't mean the technique, but the attitude.
The guide is hilarious! Perfect amount of wit and knowledge!
One of the single best items to wear. A wee bit chilly when it's cold and windy but in the summer when it's blazing hot, pure heaven!
An Arisaid. I've been trying to find a video on how to pleat and wear the ladies version of the kilt, now I even know what it's actually called too. Awesome.😁

Very good. A great kilt with no sewing.
Cool video. Never knew that's how it was done.
...Nice... excellent demonstration... Mónica ...we would like to enjoy this same way,!!!
very nice kilt design
Learned something....thank you.
thats awesome!
Very good, Thank you
I have heard this was how it was done but have never seen a demonstration. Very interesting. I like to see men in kilts but I am also glad that due to extreme weather conditions, men and women can choose to wear pants/slacks.
High landers had black hair and blue eyes ? Beautiful !!!
The most had Red hair
He's means that not all had red hair. But indeed a lot were more dark. Some people seem to thing every Scot used to have red hair. But that's bollocks...
HolandaChiquita Thank You : )
Robbie Burns, people!
I love this?❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hahaha so nice i love Escorcie
Where can I find a kilt like the green one he has on?
What make of kilt is the guide wearing?
I call bull on the eyes. I'm Clan Davidson and we all have brown hair and mostly brown or gray eyes.
How taught you that’s how it’s tied over the shoulder?
That's how my ancestor's wore their kilts, and they didn't have pants to keep their jewels warm either.
What length is the original garment, all laid out? Feet or meters?
A Great kilt like that would be around eight, or as the saying goes... 'The full nine yards...' for a ample lad.
But you also get a smaller, five yard version which is more common these days, as are utility kilts.
Is the kilt only men's clothes?
Looks like the Fraser tartan to me
thats the braveheart kilt
Could someone tell me the dimensions of the fabric?
I think they say 9 yards
anywhere from 5 to 9 yards depending on how many pleats and about 45" or so wide...
Usually 1.5 m large by 6m long. But it can be 9 m long. Source : Fandabi Dozi

I, the Scottish Plaid. if you tuck it in at the backside , your pockets will be larger and things won't fall out of them.i think you need a wee bit practice.
Would be more helpful if you didn't speed up some of the stuff like the pockets and maybe filmed from the front.
i REALLY tried to watch this video but the wind noise was aweful!

I can’t take this video seriously when you are making jokes.
So if the highlanders had black hair and blue eyes, it must have been the lowlanders who had red hair. Interesting.
The culture of the Highlanders was quite distinctive from the lowlands and those in the cities. During the 18th century, when Boswell toured the Highlands, he commented on how the Highlanders spoke "That Irish tongue!"
