its pronounced PLAD, just because its spelled plaid doesn't mean you say it like in English. Its a Gaelic word
"PLAD" is an American pronunciation. Talk to any Scotsman and you'll find him pronouncing it as "PLAYED." I can't believe you're correcting a Scotsman on how to pronounce a word that his people have been saying for centuries, lol. Being my family's genealogist, I have been to Scotland (where my ancestors are from) and talked to MANY Scottish people. When talking about kilts, they ALL pronounced it "PLAYED." It was us Americans who adopted the term and for whatever reason, decided to pronounce it differently. Probably to distance ourselves from the Brittish.
It's not pronounced PLAD or PLAYED if you say it in gaidhlig mate
You are correcting a Scot? Wow!
@@lizlandry3388 as a Scot myself it's worth remembering that being Scottish ≠ being right. There are plenty Scots who know bugger all about kilt and kilt traditions past the feilaidh beag
