- In april 2019 Metropole Orkest invited saxophonist Donny McCaslin to play his music with the 50 piece orchestra. This live recording was shot in LantarenVenster, Rotterdam.
Donny McCaslin, saxophone
Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley
Jason Lindner, keys
Ryan Dahle, vocals and guitar
In his quest to explore new territories in music, tenor saxophonist Donny McCaslin joins the world’s leading pop & jazz orchestra Metropole Orkest for 3 genre-defying concerts in The Netherlands in April 2019.
Donny McCaslin is probably best known for his acclaimed work as a band leader on David Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’. Inspired by the late legend’s words and vision McCaslin explores a new artistic approach. “Before working with him, things like this didn’t seem possible to me,” McCaslin says. This becomes apparent in the music on his newly released album ‘Blow.’ (Motéma Music, October 2018), a fearlessly diverse album that blends jazz, alt-rock and electronics.
For the gigs with Metropole Orkest (led by then chief conductor Jules Buckley.) Donny is joined by the wonderful Jason Lindner on keys and singer/guitarist Ryan Dahle. The setlist will feature work from ‘Blow.’ and earlier work by McCaslin.

What a concert it was. Balance of this live registration is much better than sitting in row #2. LantarenVenster is offering great accoustics, even with such a vast orchestra. Thnx! Donny and MO!🎷
I came here for The Metropole Orkest - The greatest orchestra ever; past, present and future!
I wish you all peace, love, and success.
Again, the most versatile orchestra in the world struts its stuff! Wow!!!!
I had the chance to be in the same concert a few days before in Utrecht. I remember asking Donny if it would be recorded... So here it is! Great souvenir, thank you
Can’t get this song out of my head.. in a good way

Wonderful presentation. This orchestra is always fantastic
This is wonderful, thank you so much for uploading the whole thing!
90+ minutes full of groovy music!
Wow. So many intensely beautiful moments. Absolute magic. Congratulations to Donny and the entire gang. Great stuff!
I have been there at The Spot Groningen. Breathtaking it was.
Loving this collaboration. Just wished I would have been there to see and listen to it live. I think the Alt-Rock & Jazz collaboration with the inclusion of the Metropole Orkest is very cool.
This is awesome!
Big fan of Leo Janssen!
Wow! 💙
Epic!
i don't see the singers other than ryan listed in the credits (??!!)
Lo van Gorp and Patty Lou are the backing vocalists
@@metropoleorkest thank you!!
Nice collaboration! I'm not a fan of the mix though. The strings might as well not even be there.
Fantastic
