    Game Summary (may have spoilers)
    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
On June 13, 1957, the New York Yankees faced the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park. The Yankees, with a solid season thus far, were looking to extend their lead in the American League. Art Ditmar started on the mound for the Yankees, while the White Sox countered with their ace, Billy Pierce. The Yankees, featuring stars like Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra, were in the thick of a pennant race. Meanwhile, the White Sox, led by players like Nellie Fox and Minnie Miñoso, were fighting to stay competitive in the league, though they were trailing behind the top teams. The game held extra interest due to the intense rivalry between the two teams and their contrasting playing styles.
The game unfolded with early drama as both teams jostled for control. The White Sox took an early lead in the second inning with a two-run homer by Jim Rivera, but the Yankees responded in the third inning when Gil McDougald’s double brought home Bobby Richardson. The Yankees then surged ahead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs thanks to key hits from Mickey Mantle and Bill Skowron. Despite a late rally from the White Sox, including a solo home run by Sherm Lollar in the eighth inning, the Yankees' pitching, particularly from Art Ditmar, kept the White Sox at bay. Reliever Bob Grim came in to secure the final outs, maintaining the Yankees' narrow lead.
The Yankees ultimately prevailed with a 4-3 victory over the White Sox. This win added to their momentum in what was shaping up to be a successful season, eventually leading them to clinch the American League pennant. The White Sox, despite the loss, remained competitive, but their efforts fell short of playoff contention that year. The game exemplified the tight races and fierce competition typical of the 1957 season, with the Yankees' consistent performance proving critical in their quest for another championship.

There is no mention of the melee that broke out when Larry Doby thought Art Ditmar was throwing at him . Both benches emptied and Comiskey Park looked like a battlefield. Even Casey Stengel was involved in the fighting . The next day there was a picture in virtually all newspapers nationwide showing Enos Slaughter with his uniform shirt in tatters. This is considered the turning point in that year's pennant race . Two days later Billy Martin was traded to the Kansas City A's along with Ralph Terry, Woody Held and Bob Martyn in exchange for Ryne Duren, Clete Boyer and Jim Pisoni. Curiously , this same week saw a melee at Ebbets Field between the Dodgers and Braves. Johnny Logan thought Don Drysdale was throwing at him. I know all of this because my brother was born on Monday, June 10.
