- So to be honest, this video was a bit unexpected! I always keep an eye on the various Buy Swap Sell groups on Facebook just in case and bargains come up, and approximately 99.99% of the time, either they're already sold, or they're out in the middle of nowhere and impossible to pick up.
NOT THIS TIME!
To my amazement, a Full Size Replica F1 Cockpit popped up on Facebook for a ridiculously low price as an unfinished project, and best of all, it was located only about 30 mins drive from my house!
Too good to be TRUE? In this video I set to work kitting it out with my new Sim Gear and seeing if it's going to work.

So this video seems to have gained a fair amount of attention in the last few days despite being more than 6 months old. SO I thought I'd give you a bit of an update and answer a few questions....
YES, I still have it and still intend to use it once I have a space for it. Currently working on setting up a new studio.
YES, I am aware the camera in F1 2018 can be adjusted. This doesn't change the fact that the screen is still sitting on top of the cabin, so you can't look down at the wheels, etc.
YES, I know VR would be a better solution, it's on it's way in the next few months :)
YES, I know Williams aren't doing well. It was painted this way when I got it. The guy I bought it from said these were the only stickers he could source off the shelf and he didn't want to pay to have graphics custom made.
What are the Best Buy sell swap groups for sim gear? I’m looking at building/buying a sim rig and rim Setup.

You did good work might not have all fit together like you wanted but keep evolving your fabrication skills and with a little trial and error it could become something awesome! People always wanna nitpick something they could never hope to come close on trying to make for themselves.

@@boostedmedia Hmm just when they are about to intro quantum dot technology too. But that's still a year away. QD is smaller then microled which still isn't mainstream yet. Whomever you decide to by from ask them when they will intro quantum dot tech and advise them that you have a YT channel. Perhaps they will give you a demo.
The video is 2 years old but if you read this you could already now this but in f1 2019 and 2020 you can set the first peraon cam lower so ir would fit perfectly with your ser up

I love it mate! Really nice job! I just wanted to say that I think Id be wanting to run the road/nose cam that only shows the road and none of the car. Looking at another cockpit whilst sitting in one already seems a waste. I'd have the screen at the end of the nose and have the screen only showing road. This will make the actual feeling of being in that car 100 times more realistic. Looks mint though dude! 😎
Yeah definitely but the screen still needs to be in the right position physically otherwise it’s like having the front wing on top of the cabin.

Saw this Video would you not consider using VR googles? This should give you visual feedback you expect and you would be physically constrained by the f1 cockpit mockup although you would not see it while playing. If the game youre playing supports this ofc.
The issue right now is support more than anything. The main game I’m playing doesn’t support VR properly. I also feel like VR needs eyeball tracking before it’s good enough to replace a large screen.
First of all, you need to be almost lead down, as drivers are in an F1 car hence the problem with knees. VR would be the next step. Good effort, though.
@@atlantic_love That only works if the driver is far more reclined. Simply moving the stein wheel back would leave the driver with ‘elbows out’ and no room for them in the e cockpit. In an F1 car it’s not an issue as the distance from your hands to your shoulders is far less than from your shoulders to your knees, so when your back is almost horizontal, the two can’t interfere with each other (the wheel should line up just below the pelvis).

VR is the way, Oculus Rift is brilliant.you don't need eye tracking for F1 with Oculus, you get head movement.

Check out the F1 Sauber cross section, the seating position of an F1 driver shows exactly why they don't get the wheel bashing into knees issue. From my perspective that leaves you with 2 options, 1) get a seat moulded in the same shape to retain replica or 2) raise the wheel base or angle the wheel upwards slightly (don't think 45 deg) just enough to avoid your knees. www.ausmotive.com/F1/2012/Sauber-F108-cutaway-01.jpg
Yeah in real life their knees come up behind the wheel more. But not possible without raising the wheelbase in my case. Which would mean having to cut away the top of the cockpit.

Hey mate just go on to on screen display and lower the camera and you can make it so you see more and less move up and down and side to side
That’s not the issue. The screen isn’t physically low enough. If it’s adjusted to the “correct” height, you can’t see what’s going on around you in the game.

might find it easier if you put your FOV down in the game :) also once you got some padding in and you can move the peddles forwards a bit might help the situation... also VR :)

You can adjust your viewpoint in the cockpit position.
I know but it doesn’t give enough adjustment to make this setup work. Needs VR or a projector.

I think if you dropped the camera in game to inside the cockpit rather than on it, it would have helped a tad, also i think if you mounted the wheel abit higher and cut out those black bits that were hitting the wheel, then had a more natural flat of your back position so the wheel sits directly over your pelvis and not your knees it would have been perfect :) all you need is a plat form thats abit higher for the pedals so you are more lying down with your feet on a footrest 😂 thats the best way i can explain it i hope it makes sense
Yeah makes sense. Dropping the camera didn’t really help though as the wheels are still physically above the cockpit unless you go so far you can’t see them at all.

No the guy built it himself in his garage. I told him he should go into business but it talked a LONG time to make something like that and people aren’t willing to pay
