    I completely understand the feeling of wanting the romantic scene, but I love the way they did it. It was really touching in the show (I cried a LOT) and it reminded me of the fact that Anne Rice and her husband Stan separated for a time after the death of their young daughter. They reconciled later. In this scene it was two parents suffering separately and then coming back together in their shared grief to support each other and love unconditionally. For 79 years, both Louis and Lestat were in stasis. This is the first time they've allowed themselves to mourn. They're two parents who lost a child and they hadn't dealt with that until now. Even Lestat. He was a crappy dad but still a dad. Now they can move forward. For all we know Lestat was in another room or out hunting when Louis dropped his Iron Man 3, 'come get me, bitch' speech. Laughing his ass off, of course. Or he could still be in NO. But they are not out of contact anymore. Btw, Lestat isn't eating the rats. He knew Louis was in town and got them for him. @@XiuFeanaro6 Louis is an abuser as well. He openly admitted to emotionally abusing Lestat because he was feeling shit about himself.
      Y'all don't see abuse as anything but physical and that's your problem.
      Lestat = was physically abusive. he harmed louis physically when he didn't get his way and attacked claudia out of jealousy.
      Louis = was emotionally abusive. he uses deep fears and desperation to hurt someone emotionally.
      Armand = was mentally abusive. he uses his mind powers to alter memories to suit his own narrative, robbing one of autonomy.

    • @Sarahlancey
      @Sarahlancey Před měsícem +4

      @@roseofthegarden_Wrong. What Louis admitted to was emotional manipulation. Every one from children to older adults can and have emotionally manipulated someone. It doesn’t automatically equate to emotional abuse. Emotional abuse is a form of abuse that is too complex and too pervasive for me to feel comfortable summarizing its meaning and characteristics here.
      Emotional manipulative can be used by an abuser but not all users of emotional manipulation are abusers.
      The way people reduce Louis’ character and abuse to legitimize what they believe was a relationship where “mutual” abuse took place is horrifying. It makes me sick to my stomach.
      I understand that they are all vampires but let’s not veer into discussion of d*mestic violence so carelessly, it’s dangerous.
      “Reactive” and “mutual” abuse are terms used to put blame on the victim.

They can destroy your life, kill you even, just by lifting you up and dropping you from high, or dropping something heavy onto you or your house or body. Hurricanes snap dead trees and healthy trees alike. Life doesn't automatically regenerate more beautifully after a hurricane as they can permanently destroy ecosystems, people, lakes, homes, etc. that will/can never be rebuilt. Armand may love Louis, but it might also be about getting revenge on Lestat for rejecting him. He had what Lestat couldn't. He took something Lestat wanted from him... Louis. Armand also spent 77 years of warping Louis' mind in order to keep him in the relationship. When the mind warp weakened in 1973, we saw how much Louis kinda hated him and then Louis in his grief tried to off himself.
    Just by messing with one memory forces the mind to readjust to create a new cohesion, a new narrative. Yeah Louis had issues & trauma from his past but Armand most likely distorted Louis' perception of Lestat and his time with him. So in Louis' retelling of his past with Lestat, the narrative would've been skewed. Memory is not always accurate because it is reorganized and reframed by the person telling it, & when they are telling it. And the story being told to Daniel, and to the viewers is by someone who has had their mind warped for 7 decades.
    I think that's why Louis wanted to be interviewed again, he needed help to get to the truth. Daniel happened to be the right person to help Louis get to the truth, his truth, so he could take accountability. I think Louis couldn't interpret his own past actions properly because of Armand's interference, and Armand's desperation to keep him in the relationship. And we saw that once he had the truth & was free of Armand's interference, Louis quickly became a much more self-realized person able to choose himself and take responsibility for his own toxic behavior.

    • @decadeofmcfly
      @decadeofmcfly Před měsícem +4

      Yeah Louis is an unreliable narrator... basically everyone is given that mind warping exists. It's such an interesting concept for a show. It's similar to what they did in Hannibal, but rather than supernatural elements they just used emotional manipulation, therapy techniques and a brain illness. Hopefully they'll continue to reveal little nuggets from other peoples POVs and the audience can piece it together.

    Some things to think about: The Talamasca knew how dangerous Louis was because of Lestat being his maker. Louis is much more powerful than even he realized because he was running from his vampiric nature. But when he was crazy and hellbent on revenge - he was a force to be reckoned with. It also took Claudia a much longer time to die from the sunlight because she too carried the blood of Akasha from Lestat.
    Armand said he preserved Louis happiness. Daniel made Louis happy. Maybe his turning Daniel wasn't fully out of spite. Perhaps it was as apology gift to Louis. Perhaps it's because Armand finally found someone who could best him & hold his own against him. And by being his maker - he would always have someone he couldn't read and would therefore be a match for his own mind. Or perhaps Daniel wanted the gift. We'll see in season three, perhaps?
    SPOILER WARNING***
    In the book "The Vampire Lestat" Lestat becomes a rock star singing about being a vampire in order to draw fire from the vamps going after Louis. So even though they don't resume their romantic relationship, the love is true and they always come to protect each other. (Although they are endgame) Lestat & Daniel both work to protect Louis until things flip when Akasha awakens.. Season three is going to be amazing! At the beginning of season 1, he was a brothel owner who was relatively rich, and who walked with his head slightly bent down and his shoulders slightly hunched over from the pressures of life as a black man in the south in 1910. He also was a multi-millionaire living in Dubai who was cool, calm and collected, but who also showed signs of schizophrenia. He also played a gay man in San Francisco who use drugs to pick up men and get down with them. Plus his accent changed depending on the character he was playing, and he changed characters throughout seasons 1 and 2. How you can rate anyone, including Sam Reid, over Jacob Anderson is beyond me. I think the entire cast is phenomenal. I never truly appreciated Louis in the books, I didn't dislike him, but he was kind of a boring character to me, lol. Jacob Anderson literally made Louis one of my favourite characters in this series and that is saying something. Sam and Jacob are number 1 for me when talking about performances, but with how truly incredibly this entire cast is.. I am not even sure it matters. Letstat has always been my favourite character and that continues in the show, I just love his over extravagance and dramatic ass, so much fun. Again though, I really do enjoy all the characters, they all bring something different to this series and that is why I think this show is such a masterpiece. Extremely talented actors, amazing diverse characters, and brilliant storytelling. What is not to like?!

    In the book, Louis is only in the coffin for a day before Armand busts him out. In the series, it’s implied to be at least a few weeks? I could be wrong though.
    Ben Daniels and Jacob Anderson brought their best game to their confrontation scene. Laughed several times at it - it was a game of getting under the other’s skin, and Louis won by a landslide!
    Other than that, you are NOT prepared for season 3. Thank goodness that LouStat is implied to be endgame, because it is going to be a hell of a ride. There is a damn good reason Armand paused when Lestat mentioned Akasha.

But the change in narration is gonna be HUGE. He's reckless, sarcastic and tends to work through trauma with a brat behaviour. It's gonna be fantastic and the other characters, even who turned him, are huuuuge elements of who he is and why he fell so hard for Louis.

    The wildest part is that I can understand Armand for doing what he did and not even fault him. Like Claudia, Armand wants love, he wants to be picked. The problem is that Armand gives 110% of himself for just a sliver of affection, instantly falling into a pseudo-master/servant relationship to keep Louis interested and comfortable. In the end, I don't think Armand ever made a choice between Louis and the coven. I think he fully planned everything from the moment he started viewing Claudia as a liability.

    This season was immaculate to me, the way the writers had everyone doubting and distrusting the narrative. For me this season trumps season one for sure just in terms of how brilliantly this season was written. The only reason I didn't completely love the finale was because I thought the deaths of the Paris coven was too rushed. I'm reserving judgement on Armand because I feel like we only know what he does, not why he does it. We have a clear(er) idea of Louis and Lestat's psyche but not Armand's which is why there's still a soft spot that I hold for him, because there's trauma there that the viewers don't know about yet.

    No spoiler but Sebastian Melmoth was an Oscar Wilde character and Lestat often uses it in the book as an alias. Also there are a CRAP TON of books. There is alot of story left. Especially between Lestat and Louis. But the next one is a very very popular one. We finally get to see Lestat, not other people's perspective on Lestat. They may actually add in a bit of the 4th book, especially with the mention of Akasha and her blood. As long as they keep making it I'll keep watching it. I grew up reading these novels and I'm just so happy that we have such an amazing adaptation.
