DIRECTV how do I program or make my old remote control useful with today’s TVs

How to program your old DIRECTV remote control to make the volume power button and inputs work for your new flatscreen TV I know in my household we’re always losing the remote so it’s great to have some extras on hand and just thought I would share this tip I’ve been doing DIRECTV for the past 20 years so just hack for your older first generations remote control

So what if the remote don't blink when pressing the select and mute button? Could be a defective one?

Yes I would say defective and would get a new one

Ok I did this it shut off an it don't work what other codes do I try or whear do I get them

I did what you recommended and it shut my TV off.now I can't change the channel.help!

you have to keep trying different codes? Till it turns off the TV changes the volume and channel.
