    Hi Lola,
    When looking for polo wraps I like to make sure they have just a little give and stretch to them. This helps them to conform to the contours of the leg better. I also don't like them to be too thick, as you will end up wrapping two layers of material over the leg of the horse and don't need it to be bulky. Let us know if you have any other questions!

      +Riding Warehouse This is great, and would this work with the hind legs as well?

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 8 lety +2

      +xCyberdog Yes! The concept would be pretty much the same, however with the back legs you will need to space the layers a little further apart so there is a bit less overlap. The hind cannon bones which you are covering with the polos are usually a little longer than the fronts, so you'll need to adjust accordingly. I always have to set aside extra time to get to know a new set of polo wraps by wrapping my horse with them a few times to get the right spacing. I make a mental note about how far to space each wrap for the fronts and hinds in addition to where on the leg you need to start. Please let us know if that answers your question!

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 8 lety +2

      +Tori Spray I've found that if you are having issues with the wraps falling off, you might need some that have more stretch. There are also combination wraps by a few different companies that offer a regular fleece section, and then the outer layer is made of an elastic like ace bandage. These are great because you can get them a little tighter (make sure the pressure is even still). You can give our customer service a call at 1(800) 620-9145 if you have more questions, or we're happy to reply in the comments too!

    I always have trouble when it comes to the part at the fetlock where you have to change direction. I always have a little bump in the back what doesn't flatten ot because of the angles

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 7 lety

      Hi Keana172, wrapping around the fetlock can be tricky! My suggestion would be to "cup" around the fetlock, which not only supports the joint but should prevent the creation of a bump. To do this, wrap normally with even and steady pressure until you get to the fetlock, which you will then wrap down and around the joint and back up to the front. At the front, a little "v" is created, and you should be able to start wrapping back up the leg. The key is steady, even pressure that will support the fetlock without causing interference. I hope this helps, if you have an further questions, you can always contact us at 1-800-620-9145. Good Luck and Happy Riding! ~Katie, RW

      Hey! After many years of wrapping polos I actually just recently figured out how to solve that problem! I found it often happens when you angle down too sharp to create your v. So what I do is make the v in front almost not there.. then you don’t get such a bubble in the back. Kind of hard to explain without showing you. Haha maybe I should make a polo video! 😆

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 6 lety +2

      Hello Charlotte, that's a great question! Typically pony polo warps are smaller in length and width to accommodate their smaller legs. Pony size polo wraps usually measure 4 inches wide and 6 feet long. Also, these wraps would be perfectly appropriate for lessons or hacks, however, it is always a good idea to check with your trainer! Hello, Jelly Unicorn. Thank you for watching our video. As you observe Tatiana wrapping the polo, you can pretend that our model leg belongs to a real horse standing next to her, with the perspective of her working on the left side of a horse. That said, you always want any and all tension to be equal regardless of what point of the wrapping you are in or where it is on the horse's leg. I hope that answers your question, if not, please rephrase. :) Happy riding!

    How do u know what size your horse is for its polo wraps

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 8 lety +1

      @Brooke And Cheyenne, polo wraps typically come in a standard size, normally 9 feet in length and somewhere around 5 inches in width. If you feel the widely used standard size wraps may not be ideal for your pony/horse, you might try getting a visual for the length needed by wrapping the leg similarly with a soft seamstress measuring tape (always desensitize and use caution). You can judge width and length of the wrap at that point based on the wrapping instructions in the video. There is of course a big difference between standard 9' long wrap and a standard pony wrap at 6', so one choice will likely stand out to you at this point. If you feel your horse is truly on the cusp, remember, if your wraps are too long you can easily cut excess off the inside/plain ends of a simple fleece polo. We hope this helps answer your question. Happy riding!

    So I ride western. I'm 5 foot even and my quarter horse is 14'2 hands. I love to jump him just for fun now and then, would wrapping his legs this way help support? Should I wrap the front or back for jumping support?

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 6 lety

      Hello Kayla, thank you for your comment! Polo wraps can be used to support your horse's legs when you jump. However, there is no "right way", as some people polo wrap the front, hind, or all four legs. Typically they are used on the front legs for jumping support, but it is a good idea to ask your veterinarian if your horse might need additional support. Please let me know if you have any other questions as I would be happy to assist you. ~Katie, RW

      Riding Warehouse thanks so much! is there any types of polo wraps you would recommend?

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 6 lety

      The main difference between polo wraps is the size and the material they are made from. Typically, riders have a preference on these characteristics as it depends on the size of the horse's legs (cannon bone length) and the feel they would like to provide their horse. We would suggest consulting your trainer to see what would be the best product for your horse! Please let me know if I can assist you further. Thank you. ~Katie, RW

    Does the V- in the polo have to be centered and I accidentally bought a pair of polos with only two. Would that look ok if I put them on only the front? I don’t want to look weird 😂

    • @Ridingwarehouse
      @Ridingwarehouse  Před 6 lety

      Hello Vanessa, thanks your for inquiries! Traditionally polo wraps, and other wraps, have the "V" centered in front of the fetlock. This allows for even distribution of pressure and allows the fetlock to be "cupped" and supported. As for only wrapping the front legs, this is a personal decision as many riders wrap the front legs, back legs, or both depending on the support their horse needs. You won't look weird, no matter what you decide! Please let me know if you have any further questions or comments and I would be happy to accommodate them. Happy Riding! ~Katie, RW

So the perspective of this is accurate for the left side of a horse. Hi Jayden,
      Correctly wrapping polos can be tricky! We suggest finding a barn buddy that you could shadow, or one that could watch you apply the wraps. This way you have an extra set of eyes, ensuring the wrap is done correctly and will not hurt the horse. When wrapped correctly, your horse should have a tough time taking them off. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know! ~Katie, RW

  • @malkiabeadle
    @malkiabeadle Před 6 lety

    you should roll the bandages tighter at the start so its easier to bandage the horse, and it will give them more support when you apply it. you shouldn't put it between the canon bone and the tendon to start for polo/polocrosse, you want as much protection on their tendons as possible. a little tip for this is that you place the bandage on the outside of the leg and roll out about 12" pointing towards the horses head, wrap the bandage around the leg once and the let the long extra bit of bandage that we took out at the start, place it on the tendons and then continue to bandage as she said. quick tip, when you come to the end of the bandage make sure the Velcro is at the top, done up tight so that there is no pressure on the tendon. lastly make sure u tape the velcro on your bandages so the wont come off when your riding and cause an accident.
