2019 Honda Fit - Review & Road Test
Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 08. 2024
- The 3rd generation Honda Fit is an unexpectedly-fun sub-compact hatchback. Roomy, refined, and cleverly designed, it delivers great value both in terms of purchase price and resale values. But is the 2019 Fit still the sub-compact to beat?
I can vouch for this car, it’s really great. I don’t spend more 15 bucks on gas a week ( I live in Georgia so obviously prices are different everywhere else ). It’s small which makes it’s great for parking, but has plenty of space for storage. Car insurance is also pretty cheap considering it’s a newer model. I had my 2006 Honda Civic and my current car only cost 20 bucks more for insurance! If you’re looking for something that’s gonna last, and low costing, this is a must have.
My buddy has an 09 Fit he bought new. I says it’s the best car he’s ever purchased. As a 6’4” tall person, I am pretty comfortable in that little car.
the ride is firm and not comfortable but ok. honda accord ride is comfortable.
@@oknadboksieovdw7296 I never said the Accord ride is uncomfortable. I'm not sure where you got that impression.
@@ATLOffroad i have it
If Honda is whatcing this, PLEASE bring back the Fit, it is an awesome car with excellent value, imagine if this was a hybrid or even an electric, it will be a very cheap way to enter the EV world and could get 70-80 MPG on hybrid models.
They make a hybrid version in Europe called the Honda Jazz
Saw this at a car show. It has BY FAR the best visibility of any modern car. Why can’t every car be like this visibility wise? Oh and the Wrangler soft top is pretty good too.
Wow...impressive spacing for such a small vehicle...
Elton Elzee It is impressive!! For a sub 4 metre car, it's awesome. 🙂
i use to own one and i was highly impressed with this xar. ive owned new civics and accord and for practicality and gas efficient and a lil fun its a great cae.
Great Depression coming in 2019! Is the car big enough to Sleep in?
beyond impressive. I am still shocked at all the stuff i am able to fit back in that little car. Ladders Tvs Bikes plywood. I was planning to sell mine but its so cute. Even have plenty of leg room for back seat passengers. The only issue is front seats are tiny at lease for the USA market. Thats ok tho just buy a couple of seat cushions. It is not the fastest car on paper but its so tiny it can easily get out of its own way.
@@Tampa0123456789 , does the seat sit low? is this car the same size as toyota yaris? I am only 5 feet tall. I want a small car.
Had this fit for a couple years now and it's a really great car, I'd even go so far as to say it's a miracle car for budget minded folks. The value is insane, an EX trim will rival in features in most cars 5-10k above its price point. This CAN be used as a family car, including dogs, who can benefit from either the rear hatch or the magic seats. I've been in and out 100s of time and it still feels like I'm in a much bigger car when I'm inside
The good:
- Unbelievably roomy for the vehicle dimensions. Can sit 4 with ease, carry lots of luggage, a trip to costco, or ikea.
- Magic seat versatility will constantly come in handy
- Adequate power for price point, journalists used to testing Teslas will complain, but it's fine, really
- Handles well, steering feels good throttle response can be adjusted by drive mode.
- Excellent brake feel
- Most comfortable back seats ever for a car less than 161in long.
The flaws i have are extremely minor, and unnecessarily nit picky, but worth pointing out.
Minor flaws:
- The wheel doesn't telescope enough. This can mostly be alleviated by moving the recline to the most upright position
- The center armrest is so low it's completely unusable
- Suspension reflects price point, so road imperfections will be felt
- Front passenger leg room is lacking due to the way the floor is shaped (the driver seat is shaped differently and doesn't have this problem). It's still okay, but anyone over 6' might be better off in the back
- LX trim omits sound deadening, which the Fit really needs....
- Oil dipstick is harder to read than it should be
- headlights are very prone to oxidation without proper maintenance
I bought a 2019 EX in Aegean Blue. Overall I love the car. It is roomy, economical, and I hope reliable. I bought it to drive for a few years and then give it to my daughter when she graduates college. The Aegean Blue is awesome. I can only think of a few colors for a Honda. Blue, Red, and maybe white. My only negatives are the arm rest, no remote start, blind spot camera only on the passenger side, and the carpet is not carpet to me. It's like plastic fibers. I do not like that at all. This is not a negative, but the fuel tank is under the front seats so standard floor mats don't work well at all. So Honda just provide all season floor mats! It's super cheap and would make a difference. But overall, great car, the CVT is noisy in the city, ok on the highway. I like it a lot, so just telling you my opinions. You will have to decide for yourself. I have rented many cars, and the Fit is what I chose for reliability and function.
I own a 2019 fit ex fit this still a very good car and is not noisy in traffic handles well in snow. I used to own a 2008 fit 5speed auto drove that car for 11yrs and 200000 miles
They are wonderful cars. I have had two now. It would be nice if some of the engines were twin cam as oppose to single cam. This means they are more reluctant to rev.
The extra space and versatile seats is pretty amazing especially with a young family, I love the ability to fold a seat up and have a foot well space for bags.
The new ones we have here are twin cam, almost like an older civic
Honda is the best. I would be very happy to pay the higher price and have Honda premium quality and reliability.
Cameronvial Hyundai is sneaky good. The Koreans are surpassing the Japanese but people don't realize yet.
Michael Cline I do agree Hyundai is good and I like Hyundai don't get me wrong but I still think Honda is a way better premium brand car. Hyundai is not in the same league as Honda in my opinion. I understand your opinion may be different.
Cameronvial if I say Hyundai is better than Honda, then it must be true. There is no argument. If Hyundai is not better, then why did I buy this 2018 Hyundai Elantra? Are you telling me I wasted my money? Huh? Is that what you're saying?
Michael Cline I don't think you have read my response properly. I have said that I like Hyundai. I am not hateing on Hyundai at all. I am not saying Hyundai cars are shit . What I am saying is that my personal preference is Honda and I personally prefer the quality of Honda cars compared to Hyundai but Hyundai are good quality I will say that. I just think Honda quality is better. Honda is also a premium brand and Hyundai is not. My personal preference is Honda but I understand that yours is not. At the end of the day it is down to personal preference. I think both brands are awsome but I just prefer Honda.
i was just joking.
My girlfriends 2015 fit does not have a volume knob, you wouldn't think its a big deal but every time you go turn the volume down I'm always grabbing for a knob not buttons. Good to see honda came to their senses!
Just use the steering wheel-mounted volume control.
Dave Shaw don’t you have controls on the steering wheel to save you the trouble ?
I have an 07 Honda fit sport 5 speed std it is probably the most reliable safest most practical car I’ve ever owned it now has 375,000 km on it still runs just like the day I bought it. As far as I’m concerned it is the best small hatchback car on the planet and the cheapest to run in the long run
The Fit harkens back to the small spunky value-driven cars that made Honda famous. I kinda miss my 2nd gen Fit Sport 5MT. It wasn't "fast", but a fun tossable urban runabout with a lot of practicality.
Phrancis5 exactly. I was all smiles the first time I test drove my ‘18 Fit. It did remind me of my old Civic Si. Very peppy!
I’ve got an 18 Fit with the 6MT. Even though it’s slow af it’s still pretty fun
I have a 2nd Gen 2013 Fit. It’s definitely not the fastest car but I’ll take my gas mileage over speed any day. It’s my first car and I think it was a great choice.
Imma get a 2018 or 19 fit I will take any cvt model that has the Honda sensing stuff. obviously my first choice would be an EX-L since it has the heated leather front seats
I have the 1st gen Fit Sport (2007, Orange Blaze) which just clicked over 232K. Except for replacing the clutch at 216K everything works on this most reliable vehicle.
It's small size is perfect for small parking spaces.
At 109 hp, it has a enough to zip around and I have say it handles remarkably well. My friends are amazed how much cargo volume this little "Mini Van" can carry.
I just love this car!!!
Bought my Honda Fit (Base Auto LX trim) this past January and I love it!! I'm impressed with the amount of cargo space it has. I used to own a Chevy Sonic 2016 LT model that was totalled unfortunately but this was another car on my list at the time I bought my Sonic. I'm very glad I bought it. Will tune it up with some Mugan parts in the future. 😁
The Fit is basically what the Civic was.
Ryan Littleton Make the Civic Great Again.
The 2004 civic is essenially a jazz/fit
jeppep95 Exactly.
They need to make a Fit Type R lol
Darksyne YESSSSS!!!!!
The space and visibility ahhhhhh 😍
I like how KBB went out of their way to point out the flawed driving position, something that reviews often overlook in cars. Still don't know why so many cars don't allow more steering wheel telescoping; I can only imagine cost savings and safety concerns (for drivers not smart enough to know they shouldn't be too close to the airbag).
BruceLeedar He could also have put his seat-back into the upright position. This isn’t a Tesla, don’t drive laying down.
i have had that thought too, when you change your incline/decline, you often wish you could change the the wheel positioning while driving
The steering wheel literally tilts and telescopes a few seconds more into the video.
The only perceived flaw is the lack of a center armrest.
I have a 2019 LX w/ CVT. It’s very efficient for what it is, carries way more than it looks like it can, and is really fun in the city and on windy country roads. Quite stable on the freeway, easy to maneuver, quick and responsive, and safe. It even handles snow well enough, along with rain. No need for sunroof with giant windows. Cheap to run and maintain, easily customizable. Looks good too. And most important, it’s reliable.
We just bought a Honda Fit last month. WE LOVE IT!
Lisa Christopher I have a 2010 Honda Fit. Very good cars 🚙. How’s yours holding up?
I test drove this this past Friday and I'm inlove😖😍
I have a 2007 and looking at a 2019 tomorrow. Of course it’s a manual
I love my Fit. As for the steering wheel, it does extend telescopically for when the seat is back....
Since when do subcompacts cost 17k to start?! Micah’s right, the real competition is the compact cars starting at just less than 2k more...
That's what I thought. The price is shocking.
I believe base model is DX not LX so should be less than that
Mark Herbert It is in Canada, DX starts at CAD $16,872.50
Nelu Ciubuc not in America, LX is base.
$ Honda tax $ Add stealership fees on top of that too
This is my VERY favorite car reviewer. Love these videos!!
We owned a 2018 Honda Fit EX for 4.5 years and it had 64k miles when we sold it to get a bigger car. One of the most reliable cars we've ever owned and the versatility of the interior is its greatest strength, along with the superb gas mileage.
The ride is a bit stiff and you will feel every pot hole though. One thing I've learned about Hondas is that their batteries discharge way too quickly when you leave the music system on after turning off the engine or even if you have automatic headlights on while you are waiting in the car. Once we knew how to manage these limitations, there was nothing else we had to worry about.
I miss our Fit dearly!
This maybe my next car!
Go for it! It's a nice small car with practicality of a large sedan.
Peasant
I like it, but I just can’t get behind how it looks. It needs a front like the new civic or accord.
Jank Paul if only we can get Mugen style like they have in Japan!
i.ytimg.com/vi/tHh4mH-jnu4/hqdefault.jpg
Just got one in the same trim as in the video but with a 6MT. I love it!
In my country, it is sold as honda jazz, there is also sedan version called honda city
This is like the best subcompact car you can get with that amazing seats adjustment.
Before i bought the civic10th gen. I did consider this but back then the old model isnt refresh until now. I regret my choice since my friend is able to bring a surfboard or even a full size road bike in his car with ease
I love the Honda Fit / Honda Jazz, I have been driving one for 6 years gen1 and gen2 looking at gen3. Looks amazing cant wait to get one. Hondas rule, Go Honda!!!
I own a 2016 fit EX-L people are shocked when they get in. The interior is insanely nice
Interesting fact. The rear leg room is just a hair larger than my 2012 CRV which totally blew my mind and 0 to 60 of 8.5 with the manual matches my CRV. Guess the fact it’s 1000 lbs lighter than my CRV gives it that speed. Great value.
They redesigned the 3rd gen to have a slightly smaller trunk and more leg room for the rear.
I just bought a new 2019 fit and love it
I have a 2016 FIT and it's awesome. Excellent gas mileage and very reliable. It looks exactly like the 2017 and 2018 FIT so no need for me to upgrade just yet lol. Nobody would notice the difference when driving on the highway anyways lol.
No volume knob, no thanks.
I'm so glad I have this car! Had to move twice in less than a year and this car was the only thing I used to carry all my stuff. It's bigger on the inside 😁.
The design is so versatile with the multiple positions the back seats can fall into. I'm also getting around 38MPG on average.
Horsepower is a bit lacking, but turn off the eco mode on hills and it'll do fine.
The windows on this car is huge! I tried to buy a sunshade and the auto store didn't even carry one that's big enough. It's a compact car, but I had to buy an extra large sunshade meant for trucks!
as a 2015 fit LX owner [new purchased] i have a couple of issues. 1} and it was a BIG one; the windshield angle is such that at mid-morning and mid afternoon times there is intrusive dashboard reflection. That i cured with a homemade black "rug" on the dash. the other is noise. it is quite noisy inside. the car is Jekyll & Hyde-ish, a relaxing cruiser AND a blast to scoot around with. the 6 speed allows the engine to stay in its 3000+ range where it seems to love to be. With LED headlight bulbs and purpose built snow tires all round its a winner!
I also have an issue with the angle of the windshield. It makes it near impossible for a radar detector to look straight ahead with the included suction cup mount.
Love the personality you put in your videos!
I have the orange fit sport. I love it.
The fit has two names
-Fit
&
-Jazz
Great White they lost the chance to just call it the Jizz
Thank you i'm from France and was confused.
The Jazzercise?
It looks like a little odyssey
lucas black - That's what I thought at first. The front looks like a mini van lol, but in a cool way.
It's as if it's just a minivan one size down. Same body styles, engine performance curves, functionality and utility features.
Fold down seats, lots of storage spots, fits-anything-that-doors-allow-in, rather comfortable passenger comforts, yet no preference or bias towards whether you haul cargo or people. The only thing it sheds that a minivan has is sliding doors!
It's the modern Civic wagon
I have a 2015 and I love it! Wouldn’t mind just getting a new Honda Fit when the time comes to buy a new car again :)
Love my '15 - my thoughts exactly.
I wonder what they'll do for 4th gen
I’ve had three civics and the most recent(2016) doesn’t feel like a civic anymore. I got the civics because they were always small and quick to maneuver. My 2016 just feels too big now I think I’m gunna jump on a Fit next!
I always thought the volume knob thing was kinda BS. 😂 I have a 2015 GK, the first year of this Gen, without a knob. There's volume buttons on the steering wheel, and those are more precise and faster than a knob besides.
I don't know why so many people got worked up over it. 😅
I had an 09 and loved it. Is the best sub compact there ever was!
Dustin Hart no.....just no
Blake Swan yes just yes
I have an 07 with virtually no miles after over a decade. It's reliable, practical and easy to park. Other than that, it's a crap can (noisy, harsh ride, hard plastic everywhere, hard seats, avg fuel economy, minimal standard features). I much prefer the refinement and fun-to-drive qualities of our Mazda2. I guess it depends on your priorities. If you haul a lot of stuff, and people, quite often, the Fit is a winner. Admittedly, the new gen Fit is miles ahead of my first gen though.
OMGWTFLOL Hard ride and hard seats I can agree with. Honestly I drive alone a lot so I didn’t haul much but when I moved, the hatchback quality did help a lot and the magic seats as well. I didn’t like the Mazda2 for its engine and it felt a lot smaller than the Fit. However, I think the Fit has a great engine tranny combo. I think it was quite quick.
I love how the review ends referencing the little old Geo Metro because I've been driving a manual '98 Geo Metro for the past year, and I'm now looking for a newer car. The 2019 Honda Fit EX is what I found ideal, but it's so hard to find a decently priced manual transmission version these days 😕
I always look forward to Micah's reviews for the Fit. He's so fun!!!!!
Agreed - much better than other vehicle reviewers on CZcams.
I have a 2007 Honda Fit S Manual Transmission. Currently at 150k miles. What have I fixed? The clutch. That’s it. You bet when I decide to move forward with another vehicle it will be another Honda Fit.
Just traded our Fit in for.... a NEW Fit! I LOVE this car!!! Would have kept the other Fit, but my Wife's car was totaled and all we had to trade in was the older Fit (sad). LOVE the Dynamic cruise and lane keeping!!! Lots of head room!! My son got a Fit and the other got a Civic - while I like the Civic seats for comfort, the Civic sits lower and is harder for us old folks to get in and out of....
This car is magnificent, it’s magical, it’s lovely and it’s my dream car ❤️
Zendin82 you going to buy one ?
Honda safety kit with dynamic cruse control for this car category.. that awesome.
I’ll buy this next month. It’s too bad the new fit isn’t coming to the US
Looking forward to the Honda Fit EV
I own a 2019 Lexus NX300 F Sport AWD but I got the 2019 Honda Fit EX as well for everyday driving. Love my Lexus but can't be using 91 Premium everyday for daily driving. Haha! Love my Honda Fit and the compact-ability of it is pretty phenomenal.
your reviews are fun and the sarcastic comments are brilliant! :D
😂😂😂
Feel like it's the perfect car (to buy used) for a college student. Small, reliable, great utility, cost effective, inconspicuous etc.
Can you do a review of your shirt?
I love the Fit! I just wish it had an independent rear suspension. My next car will either be a fully-equipped Fit or a Toyota Prius (depending upon how much I want to spend on my next vehicle).
This car really has a lot of interior space despite its seemingly small exterior dimensions.
I thought it was small, but once inside it is actually quite big for it’s size. And those wide open window makes you feel that it’s even bigger
@ 2:19 you gave me the impression that there was no adjustment in the steering wheel. @ 4:37 I am glad to see you adjusting. What is the ground clearance like? Are going over speed humps and entering raised driveways a scare?
2:14 My Fit has a telescoping steering wheel. Is it no longer available?
The magic seat would be a huge selling point with me since I could put my bicycle in there
moosefactory133 same here
I will always love the simple look that Honda goes with. Too many companies change their looks and it looks hideous in the end.
This will be my next car. Maybe not a 2019 but definitely a 2018 used CVT model with Honda sensing nothing older though.
Skip CVT, get a manual. Thank me later.
I just bought a used 2018 Fit. The cockpit fit isn't a problem for me as I'm 5'-7'' tall. The arm rest is a disappointment so I rolled up a bath towel and stuck it snugly into the spot. The cargo possibilities are what sold me. I had a VW Gulf and the performance comparisons leave the gulf in the dust. I liked the Gulf a lot, but if I had to choose now I would pick the Fit.
My wife is still driving her 2007 Honda Fit. They run for a long time before the engine gives out :)
Hey Mr. short arms...there is a telescoping/tilt wheel!
Why didn't he pull the steering forward? The 2018 fit has telescoping steering, doesn't the '19?
I really like my 2015 FIT EXL, but the armrest continues to be unusable. Fantastic fuel economy and Honda reliability are solid selling points. Overall cost of ownership is extremely low for what you get. Not an econobox of the past.
I've had my 2017 for for 1 month and I love it. Both the gas and brake pedals are sensitive like very. But no complaints from me.
Honda is good at making cheap cars that are fun to drive. I've got a 1991 CRX that is an absolute joy to drive. I'm considering trading my aging 2009 Civic for a Fit.
Love my 2013 Fit. Wish I could get the newer front seats that fold down completely when you slide them forward and remove the headrest for "relax mode" when sitting in the rear.
In vietnam honda fit has name is honda Jazz. I'm very like this car. But, car in vietnam very very expensive. I have a dream vietnam will buy cheap car
Magic seat??? It's been on old cars for decades and decades! So smart!
This guy is the Best! He ought to be in movies! Is that your old Bounder MH in the background? I love it!
I always use to hate the old Honda Fit but now it’s perfect
I actually laughed, you turned a great informative piece into something entertaining! Thank you!
Like the autolux jam out at the end. 👍
1:04 One of the few that reviews that mentions "Magic Seat" and shows its use for long items. But that seat also lies more flat than that. You remove the headrest and the front seat matches up with the rear seat, making it so the passenger can sit in the backseat with a seatbelt on and still have their feet up. You can also create a flat place where you can comfortably sleep in the car, AND you can fit a bicycle in the back area without taking a wheel off. Fit is a far better car for those who see a car as more than just a ride from point A to point B.
It's amazing how much detail you pack into a short review video. Including capsule comparisons if the trim lines. I remain concerned about carbon buildup on the intake valves on all direct injection engines - there's no fuel flow over the intake valves surfaces to wash gunk from the EGR system and crankcase vent PCV off. (Toyota acknowledges, and solves, the problem on the 2019 Corolla 2.0 by doing port injection in mild driving and direct injection for higher performance - just one set of injectors and some clever variable valve timing. Do you have any GDI observations?
Also, I think Safety Sense needs to be standard on the Sport trim. In a couple of years if course it will be standard even on the LX.
Finally, NHTSA has expressed concerns about sunroof safety issues, primarily ejection of occupants. I am concerned about roof strength with sunroofs. It's a shame fluff like moonroofs is used to lure in buyers. Actual usage is low, unless you have a dog, but it makes buyers "feel better" about themselves. If car makers are going to make them mandatory to get other real features, they need to be much safer.
I have a 18 Sport all I can say gets the job done. It’s the best one in the segment in my opinion much better then my 15 Sonic
Honda messed up when they stopped making the Fit in Japan (2016 models). Check your VINs.
Does it start with a "J"= Japan.
[2015 was made in Mexico ie. VIN starts with a "3"].
2017-2019 start with a 4 (not Japan).
All said the 2016s are the ones to look for and buy.
Have owned my 2019 Honda fit 1 1/2 years. ADORE THE CAR!
Being a retired vet from the auto industry for over 4 decades I can say that my 13 fit was the best care I've ever owned. I've had dozens of vehicles over that time. Not the most expensive, just the best. Then came the 15 model year and I was not impressed with Mexico's assembly. Then a miracle, cuz as demand rose significantly in 2016 I was able to buy one (Milano Red) that was assembled in Japan. BIG diff in the build quality, fit and finish etc. Like a whole different car. V.I.N. matters....
I went up to a Civic Sport with turbo, but returned to the latest 2019 Jazz / Fit Sport, naturally aspirated 1500, which is more practical for me with the smaller lanes and roads in South West England. The turbo is nice, but given the Jazz / Fit is a whole big motorcycle lighter than the Civic it is more fun imho.
Danny Duncan smashed out his left mirror
Oh look, It's a mini mini-van.
If that's what you wanna call hatchbacks then sure
@@cm01 come on man don't act like you don't see this as a compact Odyssey
@@nick-vv1lz I used to daily an odyssey and this is not that
I would love to see a Fit Si with a 1.6T lol
Yep, a turbo engine, an interior with softer surfaces, more sound deadening, and AWD for me. I guess I want an HRV. haha
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH in Japan they have an AWD fit and a hybrid fit
What annoys me is that they don't have the lever on top ofthe front seats anymore as on the Mark 1 to move the front seats while standing yourself. That was one feature that was fantastic and a blessing for my knees.
Fit is the Honda car that doesn't have extremely low seating. Civic, Insight and Accord has annoyingly low, to me, seating.
Did he try unlocking and moving the wheel???
2:12 It can unlock and extend/lift. ohh 4:36.. maybe
how about interior noise when driving and suspension?
That's what I'd linger to know. My previous 2008 Honda Fit had a lot of road noise. I'd like to know if they have improved upon that.
A brand new one was unveiled in Japan a couple months ago
I just bought a 2016 Honda Fit and I was surprised at how roomy it was. The large front windows also make it super spacious and fun to drive.
Always will be better than a prius
IKR
didapt gaming after test driving both, I ended up with the prius. I always wanted a fit, but the new prius drives much smoother and material quality is a step above the fit.
didapt gaming wait for the new corolla hatchback bro
Prius is a better car. Prius gets better mpg (obviously), better ride & handling (double wishbone rear suspension plus TNGA chassis), less road noise, port injection (no carbon deposits), and unrivaled reliability (see all the old Prius taxis everywhere).
The fit looks slightly better and is significantly cheaper (this is important. Fit wins on price).
The Prius outsells the Fit by 20 to 1
Nice review and thanks for doing it. For the future, leave the comedy to the professionals.
Thumbs up for the production refresh. That MKBHD touch.
Buy a car you need not a car you want, this jazz is perfect for economy & practicality and surprisingly fun to drive, sometimes you forget your driving in a Jazz.
Been thinking of one to replace my 2004 Focus I got in 2008. But the Focus refuses to die and since it is a salvage title car, I will be driving it til it drops. But this does make me feel good considering a Fit. My doctor has one and says his, a 2014 I think drones a bit on the highway though he has a fix for CVT drone. He turns up the radio.
I want to like this car. I really do. But can’t.
I bought a then-all-new ‘15 Honda Fit and after only a year, and 5k miles of ownership, had to get rid of it. This is not an easy car to live with day-to-day.
The Fit makes a great, initial showroom impression. Lots of rear and cargo room, plenty of versatility, the most impressive visibility and glass area of any modern car, loads of features even in base LX trim, high fuel economy, clear gauges and simple controls, and a few thoughtful touches like the natty cloth seats and pseudo chrome trim pieces to liven the interior.
But on the road, this car is a drag. The engine is decent in this class and compares well to other subcompacts. But it’s let down by a six speed manual transmission with short gear ratios that are annoying in traffic and on hills. The engine noise is relentless at all speeds and the sounds are more reminiscent of a Honda mower than their cars. This is an exhausting car on long trips. At least the slick shifter, expansive greenhouse, and precise steering made the Fit shine on windy, mountain roads. That was the only place the Fit was strangely in its element.
Inside, an extra few inches of rearward travel of the rear seats would’ve been appreciated. Taller front passenger’s knees dig into the dashboard. It was almost as though Honda designed the spacious rear seat first, and the fronts were an afterthought.
But the reliability was the biggest letdown. We had numerous trim issues, leaks, electrical gremlins, and creaks and rattles. The car made over a dozen unscheduled visits to the dealer in only 5k miles, and some of the issues were never rectified or reappeared. That’s embarrassing for any maker, and especially Honda.
We were glad to unload the Fit and get a Chevy Sonic. True to it’s word, the Fit did hold its value well. But the Sonic is so much more refined in noise and harshness, comfortable for front passengers, peppy on the road, and had bigger discounts. And in a strange irony for GM, has proven to be 100% reliable in 7k miles. Even the same price point, the Sonic is just more pleasant. The Sonic forsakes some rear seat space and fuel economy, but it’s absolutely worth it.
So yeah, I still want to like the little Fit, but there’s too much of a dark cloud from living with it
My 1st gen Fit is a noisy, harsh, POS, but in fairness, it's an urban commuter car, not a hwy cruiser. So, you're not going to enjoy this on ling trips. duh. I've had zero issues with mine and it's 11 yrs old now.
Edit: Oops, I forgot. It leaked like a son-of-a-bitch. I had to reseal the window weatherstriping, doors and roofline. The carpets would get soaked, as well as the spare tire area, in a rainstorm. Poor design and bad sealant on Honda's part. Forgot about that. Yeah, it's a POS. I'm going to buy a Smart ED next. Tired of paying for gas and doing oil changes, etc.
Did they fix the lead issues on the newer model? I've read about leaks elsewhere...
Wow I have had my Fit two years and it's perfect! Not one problem! Sorry for you.
I just bought a 2019 with 11k miles . It's a repair vehicle but wasn't damaged to bad and the shop did a great job. I got it for a steal at 11700. I'm throwing some cool performance mods on it, going to be a cool Lil gas saver cruiser
What mods did you do?
@@ukestudio3002 5k on sound system, cold air intake, 17 inch konig rims, lowered 2 inches, exhuast work and full limo tint all the way around and the windshield, also small things like emblems lights etc
i see they took a page from the chevrolet sonic by removing the coolant temperature gauge ... good luck pulling over before its too late.
Great review..you keep it interesting..overall seems like theres more PROS THAN CONS with this car..im thinking about getting the HONDA FIT EXL hope i wont regret it!!! The main complaint i hear is slow acceleration...
If you know me you know I hate Honda, but I love the new fit. It’s such a brilliant car. It’s the closest thing to my PT Cruiser offered in a new car
