Being single is better than being with someone who is a controller. You aren't told where to go, who to go with, who to talk to, who your friends should be, how to spend your money, what clothes to wear, whether you can visit family or friends. I like freedom to be me and do what I want. I don't want to be controlled or suffocated.
That's like having a parent.

@Anleifr exactly man I blamed women not for abusing me but for leaving me. At the end of the day the signs were all there I just wanted to ignore it. I can't blame them for being idiots I can only blame myself for not seeing what's right in front of me. Simp behavior is horrible. I don't understand why a man would spend money on a female nowadays. I mean I know it sounds cruel but I don't even bother giving them birthday gifts. the most they get this flowers every once in awhile that's only after they've done a lot of stuff for me first. It should be 50/50 and the only time someone needs to buy a gift is if you feel it from the bottom of your heart not because you feel you need to to keep them happy

Before I found Stoicism, it was drilled into me that “There is only one thing worse than being alone, that is, being with someone and wishing you were alone”.
I have now modified it to say, “Being alone isn’t so bad. What’s worse is being with someone and wishing you were alone”.
Many of you are misunderstanding the message here. They’re not saying it’s better to be single and that’s it… No! They’re encouraging not to rush into just any relationship so you’re not alone. Don’t get married or into an unhealthy relationship out of fear of being lonely. They’re encouraging people to be happy with themselves first so they can have a healthy relationship. Too many people are so desperate and scared of being alone that they’ll take anybody then end up divorced or in a sick relationship he’s not saying it’s better to be single so don’t ever be with anybody, No! That’s not the message. It’s OK to be in a relationship as long as you’re healthy mentally and physically. A healthy body supports a healthy mind. Love yourself first and foremost, enhance your mental well being. Be content with your own unique self. That you’re special and deserve only the best. Cherish your healthy single life and enjoy it. Don’t worry about finding someone to love you. Let it come to you naturally and spiritually. You’ll know when it’s right.

I've been single for a long time now, have good set of friends do martal arts. I do talk women and had few dates but having a life built around being single makes things easier.

When I was 9 years old (I turn 39 on Monday) I was in the living room playing with my toys one evening. Out of nowhere I felt this unsettling moment of detachment, followed by clarity. In my head I said "I'm not getting married or having kids: I did that before. This time I have a different purpose." Make of that what you will.
@Exodus, before I knew my age I had a knowing. this time I'm getting it right. getting it right meant using my life for good. a life of purpose. I'm serving a god given mission .
@baybramillion9263 I completely relate. Many people (understandably) view a life devoid of romantic love as being a life unfulfilled. The love they didn't get to find in another person can be redirected to a calling/cause.

I didn't know the word stoicism until I watched a video in Dec. 2023. I realized I was following its principles for years. The wisdom shared in these videos feels as though I am attending a college class on how to be a better person. I focus on taking care of myself at 76 with daily exercise, good nutrition, meditation, and concerts. I have peace and joy.

Better to live alone to avoid toxicity
Being single is like Freedom to Breath and just do what i want to do. I can choose what i would like to cook myself for my Lunch and later on in the afternoon my Dinner. I can spend what i like on me. I am very Important in my Life. I follow my Journey and my Exploration through Life and the Universe. I really do Love being a Single 54 Year old Gentleman of the World. I decide what i am going to do in my Life. I do Try to stay Positive and Motivated with my daily Itinnery. I do have Interests that i really like and Enjoy. I am very Happy within my Body and Soul.
Listening this while I’m sipping fresh orange juice at the most beautiful hotel in Beijing, doing all this alone and it feels nice and peaceful. Stoicism has helped me find myself and let go of the relationship that does no longer serve me. I’m a stoic woman!❤❤

I do believe that everyone should take time to be alone and to pursue interests, etc., but also if you find the right partner, it’s good to have someone, help, to share experiences, etc. My kids are teenagers, and I must say I miss them. Friends have replaced me. Though this is normal, it’s saddening.
I'm 38 never dated l prefer to be single for many reasons
Not getting manipulated, abused, getting flaked, harassing calls, ghosted, cheated on, arguments, and drama.

I’ve finally found my people!
Coz people believe that being single doesn't have to hold too much responsibilities in life.. But in my own personal opinion, being single leads to loneliness, depression, and sometimes it leads to commit suicide if they're not strong enough to handle their own lives.. its really sad but it's true.. The ancient Stoics seemed to know a man especially a younger man, would most likely, pursue his natural desire, predicting when this might occur is tricky at best, even for the best mentors. Human reproduction is inherently full of danger, change and loss, among other things, some, rather nice and pleasant. These harsh realities of reproduction have always been with our species and will likely remain for a long time, without any real broad social remedy. So If you want, listen to the Stoic wisdom about this subject.
You can reach your goals much faster by being single. Your best friend is jealous of you if you reach your goal before they do. How can you reach your goal paying child support alimony for the rest of your life.

Actually marriage is better for society and for you. If you mean single as in unmarried, what are you doing with your life- having promiscuous sex, watching porn, and growing more narcissistic by the day? In almost no scenario is it "better" to be single. Grow up, get married, have children. Do something noble.
