    • @mrheng562
      @mrheng562  Před 5 lety

      You're welcome. I skipped the DJI Osmo Pocket because it is not rugged enough for my usage. I don't baby my gears and I buy stuff that can keep up with me in the field without having to worry about breaking it. Also, the Osmo Pocket requires too many things like attaching my phone and what not, so I was turned off by that. Audio adapter and non "swappable" battery was also another reason I skipped it.
      However, there are people rigging it up with new cases and such. But, I'm personally not interested in that system. Check out Every Day Dad. He likes it, but I don't. You really need to know how you like to work to make the right decision. :)

    Hey thanks for the video! I'm having issues with this exact setup being too quiet and having a lot of background hiss. Your audio does not seem to have such problems!! So I have several questions:
    You mentioned powered mic gopro audio setting in the comments, is this powered or powered+ you are using? Are you using the option of "raw audio" (in protune) at all? In this video did you post-process the audio in any way? (compressor, normalizing, noise reduction, EQ, etc).
    For me on any Gopro 7 audio setting (standard, standard+, powered, powered+) results in quiet audio and a lot of background hiss even with max gain on the rode.

    • @mrheng562
      @mrheng562  Před 5 lety

      Thank you. I am using regular powered mic and Rode Wireless Go at the highest db setting. I did not process in this video at all. Do you have a sample video? Send me a message on FB or IG and let me check out.

      Those are some pro questions! Well, the answers are powered mic and the Rode was set to the highest audio level. The GoPro does a very good job of auto db. It’s my go to for vlogging purposes. Any other questions? I love questions! Helps me learn too. :)

    • @mrheng562
      @mrheng562  Před 4 lety +1

      My best advice is to get he GoPro7 as close to the source of the sound as much as possible. The other thing is to avoid sound that is competing against sound that you’re trying to record. Like, don’t try to interview someone while the fan is going, music playing, and so on. I’ve been very successful with recording in the wind by keeping the GoPro7 about 2 feet away from my face and speaking directly to the GoPro7. Avoid turning your head and speaking, but speak directly to the GoPro7. The GoPro7 is has the best audio thus far from any of the previous GoPros.

    Hey Mr. Heng!
    I'm finally getting caught up on all your awesome videos!
    Thank you for this one btw, I've been in debate over this item-even though rode is a solid company. By any chance would you know if they offer battery replacement once they die out? I'd hate to think you'd have to buy a whole new set all over again. However, this does look like a sweet way to low key mic up w/o all the cumbersome stuff, esp if you're out & about. Quick question, have you peeped the odd orb looking artifact above the mountain & near the clouds at the end of your video? Something on the lens or???
    Wonderful vibes with helpful content as always - Thanks for what you do! :D

    • @mrheng562
      @mrheng562  Před 5 lety

      I don't know if Rode offers a battery replacement, but I will ask them. And, the orb is from sun flare. The GoPro is prone to having those in the shot because of the wide angle lens.

      Yes, I do still recommend the Rode Wireless Go, and you don’t need the Wireless Go to start recording. The key is to make sure you have the cage and the GoPro USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack. Then, you can plug any external mic that uses the TRS to TRS end points to send audio into the GoPro. I hope that made sense. Check my links for the parts.

      @@mrheng562 I see some people using the Wireless Go with the Zoom H1N when they film with the GoPro, what's the difference between this setup and just using the GoPro & Wireless Go? 🙂

    • @mrheng562
      @mrheng562  Před 3 lety +1

      Sheena Lim , Zoom H1n is a dedicated audio recording device with very rich audio recordings. However, you will need to lug it around if you’re vlogging. Also, you’ll have to synchronize the video and audio recording in post. It’s time consuming, but the audio sounds amazing when done correctly.
      This system with just wireless go and GoPro records the audio directly to the GoPro and no synchronization is needed in post. Just import video and start editing out what you don’t need. The audio is good or very good if you know what you’re doing.

      Yes, but you missed the point. You have to stay close to avoid signal drop. Notice how far I was when I had my back to the camera before it dropped. That's the key to understanding how to maximize its use in the field. Staying close will work even if there is no line of sight.

      I don't think the Rode Wireless Go is meant for professional use, although in some cases you could. It's a good enough solution at an amazing price point for the size and features. What is another piece of gear that is this capable at this price point? None thus far, but I expect to see more of this kind of tech within the next 9 months to a year at the $150-$200 price point.
