- Biokovo - a limestone mountain range that rises from the sea is located in the Dinaric Alps along the Adriatic coast in Croatia. The highest peak Sveti Jure (Saint George) is standing at 1762 m which makes it the second-highest peak in Croatia. The area was declared a nature park in 1981.
Our route starts by bus from Makarska to the Skywalk viewpoint and takes us along the scenic road that winds its way up the mountain. The unique combination of Mediterranean and alpine climates contributes to its diverse ecosystem. Skywalk, a horseshoe-shaped glass platform is located at a height of 1228 meters above the sea and offers an unforgettable panoramic view of Makarska riviera. On windy sunny days there are views of Italy and walking on the transparent glass outside the edge of the cliff allows you to experience the Biokovo rocks from a bird's eye view.
We continue along the road to the mountain lodge under Vošac, from where the hiking tour to the summit at 1422 m starts. There is a mountain lodge at the top, a beautiful stone house that was once a military facility. Despite the very changeable weather, we were rewarded with a view of the Makarska Riviera and the islands of Brač, Hvar, Korčula and Lastovo.
Part of the group then goes to the mountain lodge Pod Jurom, from where the ascent goes sharply uphill to the chapel of St. George. This part of the trail is secured with a rope to hold onto during the ascent.

We were really lucky. The weather changed several times that day, but we avoided the rain. I was also afraid to step on the skywalk, but once I stopped everything was OK. Thank you 🙏🥰

Beautiful Vedrana! Exciting skywalk! You're very brave to walk out there! Gorgeous views even with a bit of fog. The rocky landscape is wonderful. Great to have a building at the top to duck out of the wind- wonderful. Extra work going up the last section with a rope. Croatia is breathtaking!!
Thank you so much Jennifer. Croatia has a lot to offer. In the northern part we mostly find grassy valleys and rolling hills with not so many rocks. As we go south, the landscape changes and gradually turns into rugged mountains, sometimes very demanding for hiking, but with beautiful views.

Magnificent views especially from the Skywalk. As I have gotten older I find I am not so comfortable with heights even though as a teen ager I was very much into rock climbing. That first summit building was in such a brilliant location. As you continue to scramble though there were some really brilliant views. It was so wonderful that the rain held off while you enjoyed this special place. Best wishes from the UK.

Great location. The skywalk is impressive. I am not sure I would go up the rope line to the chappel, I am a bit scared of heights. You are so brave!

If you didn't write that was Google earth at the beginning, we could think that it was drone shot 👍🏻👍🏻 that would be a very exciting and strange experience to walk on the glass bridge 😮 too bad that you didn't get a clear view at the top😢 much better view after
At this time of year the weather there is so changeable that it is almost impossible to have a good view all day. However, we are very pleased that we didn't get wet, and we had a nice view of the skywalk. Thanks a lot for coming along 🙏🤗
