I have never seen a ripper like this before. Works for me. I operated and maintained many a D8 in my day. Most notably the yearly reserecting/build up of the hard bar. These were sure great old dozers with many of them still in-service as we speak. Hard on the back but even at -30 would still come to life. Just like My 9G that still has the putt motor to bring it back to life.
That dry powdery sand reminds me of when, back in the late 70's, early 80's, a whole boatload of brush country was root-plowed so that sorghum could be planted out southwest of McCook, on the Hidalgo-Starr county line. The sand wound up blowing, creating sand drifts across the FM roads
What a grand old lady here this fine day. Our root rake is an 8 foot, x 20 foot drum with foot long grousers that has it's own D8 power unit that works on the 30 deg angle. It is all the pull dozer can do to pull it along. One or sometimes 2 passes make for A beautiful windrow to either light as is or repile with our 65 Komatsu into pyramid type piles that generate far more heat than the windrows. Total burns are common when I do them. Not enough to cook a hot dog or toast a bun eh.
