    Hi everyone, if you’ve formatted to exFAT and still can’t get the iPad or iOS device to recognize the drive, try this: I found that before you format the drive to exFat, you have to play with the allocation unit size settings first. For me using the 5tb my passport ultra, I found that if I switched the unit size to either 512kb or 1024kb, the iPad would recognize the drive. Anything higher, and the iPad wouldn’t recognize the drive. To my knowledge, the lower the better. By choosing default allocation size when formatting to exFAT on windows 10, it chooses a higher allocation size that doesn’t seem to work on the iPad. Try these settings if you’re having trouble. It fixed my problem. Hope it helps!

    I have the 4T WD like this, maybe a year or two old and about 1/2 full or more. It connects fine to my gen 1 12.9 w/ lightning port and Apple adapter. I don't have beta on my 2018 12.9 but don't expect expect any issues with the USBc iPad when I install it.
    These videos are really helpful for people who haven't been using the Ipad OS beta.

    Good to know. I had seen other videos that showed external hard drives not working on a lighning iPad. So it might be this particular drive, or perhaps the updated version of iPad OS 13.

    Do you know the power output of the charger you are using to power the external hard drive? Reason I ask is because I’ve just purchased 7in1 USB C hub by Anker and my iPad Pro 2020 won’t read my western digital portable hard drive. Thanks for your help man! EDIT! After many wasted hours I figured it out myself no thanks to the supplier-my drives were all in NTFS which will NOT be read by your iPad so make sure your drive is formatted to exFat guys 👍🏻 I’m just glad the hub works now!

    • @terryss95
      @terryss95 Před 4 lety

      Arcrato Be sure it' s formatted correctly. If you use that cable with other devices and it works fine, there' s no reason the ipad shouldn't do the same.
      Be sure that your hdd ISN'T formatted to ntfs (best for windows) but ExFat (fat32 is good too, only if you got small files... for big files go ExFat).
      The ipad pro only supports the same formats that mac os does, but if you want to connect the hdd to EVERYTHING (linux, windows, android, ios, mac os or whatever) and you got big files like 4k movies, your only choice is ExFat.

    • @terryss95
      @terryss95 Před 4 lety

      Arcrato Also, very important: disable passwords and encryption! Unfortunately ios 13 don't support those security features yet, they' re quite behind...

    • @terryss95
      @terryss95 Před 4 lety

      Arcrato Sorry if i'm late for the answer. By the way, don' t ask questions to this youtuber, he doesn' t have much time to look in-depth things and doesn' t feel guilty to say misleading or half-assed stuff, just to not waste time or put effort in his statements.
      Months ago he even said that a weak-ass 100% tpu case would prevent the ipad from bending, in his reviews he mishandles all the products and is too violent... i won' t be surprised if he broke the products a couple of times during reviews.
