I did give this technique a try once with iPhone 6s. it was really bad. but I realized what is lacking is some motion blur. then I used a third party app to adjust my shutter speed. results was much better.

Yes that was the issue, the motion blur.
Unfortunately to get the best motion blur you need to use filters. Most of the time I will speedramp to compensate for the motion blur works as well. Of course the best is if you have the possibility to record with natural motion blur
