  • Use these exercises to learn and master the raiz and the gumbi. It's a common misunderstanding to think that these moves require a lot of back flexibility. I'm living proof that that is definitely not the case. I can't even do the bent back over bridge properly, but still I'm able to do these very nicely and powerfully.
Sorry for bad quality. This was filmed and edited with my mobile phone, because I'm at my summer cottage. Still wanted to get the information out.

Every time I do my gumbi, it looks like a round off from the other side. I can’t get my hands to align horizontally, so it’s just a diagonal line. Any tips?

Hand placement. Look how I'm putting my right hand down. Compare it to how you put yours.

You will get it by working on your hip flexibility a lot!

Great stuff again Johannes, super helpful! As far as raiz, I'm worried about spraining my back from the fully elongated first leg spinning over (landing leg). Did that ever happen to you? That really keeps me from committing to the twist here and during the tdr (wrist/shoulder sprain).

No that didn't happen to me. A good flexibility will help a lot!
