Le groupe écossais Franz Ferdinand voit le jour au début des années 2000, alors que Robert Hardy s’installe à Glasgow et y rencontre Alex Kapranos. Les deux acolytes décident de se lancer ensemble dans la musique, s’associent à deux autres musiciens et optent pour un nom en clin d’œil à l’archi-duc d’Autriche François Ferdinand.
Franz Ferdinand sort un premier EP en 2003 mais c’est un an plus tard que les Ecossais entrent dans l’Histoire de la pop : leur premier album, porté par le tubesques « Take Me Out », atteint la troisième position des meilleures ventes d'albums au Royaume-Uni, remporte un Mercury Music Prize et les propulse sur le devant de la scène internationale. Ainsi commence l’une des plus belles aventures musicales des années 2000.
En un peu plus de vingt d’existence, Franz Ferdinand a publié six albums, de leur opus éponyme en 2005 à Always Ascending en 2018, en passant par une collaboration avec Sparks en 2015. Chacune de ces sorties contenant sont lot de tubes imparables. C’est ainsi le meilleur de Franz Ferdinand que la bande d’Alex Kapranos a compilé dans Hits to the Head, un album best of qu’ils interprètent en live devant le public d’Echoes with Jehnny Beth !

Franz Ferdinand le groupe qui fait remonter les pistes sans tire fesse. Le meilleur souvenir de ma vie le concert de FF à la "Médoquine" de Talence Bordeaux en Novembre 2009 il me semble. Un final où tous les membres du groupe passe en mode percussion!
