When Mr. Morale 1st came out a lot of people still loved it and some hated they did the same with both TPAB and DAMN, but guess what just like those two albums as time went Mr. Morale is getting more love as they say it aged like fine wine. With being said Kendrick has 5 classic masterpiece albums with Section.80, GKMC, TPAB, DAMN., and now Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers. Kendrick is a top tier lyricist, storyteller, live performer, he has amazing music, is a creative genius, has a top tier flow, even his music videos are awesome. • @iamdcarrington
    @iamdcarrington Před 12 dny +23

    Economics shows us that over saturation of any product in any market isn't going to work out in the product's favour. It's all supply and demand. "Lyrical miracle spiritual" rap was once oversaturated and led consumers (listeners) to demand (in this case, desire) rap that wasn't nearly as dense. The issue that we would see arise is that "mumble" rap or rap with less focus on lyrical density, word play, etc also became oversaturated in the market, creating a greater demand for lyrical miracle spiritual rap. Which is why every time (or at least most times) artists like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, JID and Rhapsody would enter the fray by releasing new music, they'd get attention. What we need to be seeking from more artists now is balance. The music and the production has to be of a high standard and the lyrics have to be deeper than what's on the surface. Kendrick didn't "save lyrical rap" but instead he ignited a greater appetite amongst consumers for that product.

      them atlanta beats are saturated generic and very repetitive if you go to the era between 2000 to 2013 rappers had albums with beats that dont sound the same , when the trap mumble rap started making wave both lyrics and production fell of so most people are catching up to it that this formula of using generic beats is outdated

I forgot to touch on the production aspect of things since this video was focused on lyrics but modern trap production is extremely redundant and predictable, it makes for a truly boring listening experience. Lyrical hip hop will never die. Those who like lyrical hip hop will find it. And this narrative that just because it's not at the forefront of hip hop from a popularity contest perspective it's somehow "dead" only gives us pretentious, self-indulgent wack rappers with a savior complex making the same song about how they're "bringing it back." That song has been done over and over and over again. And no matter how many syllables you can cram into a rhyme scheme, no matter how fast you can say them does not automatically make it lyrical. If you're a lyrical rapper, just be lyrical. Stop making songs where the core message is that you're lyrical.

    @latonyajefferson9699 Před 12 dny

    I find that artists (musical or otherwise) who drop new projects somewhat sporadically have a tendency to produce products that are much more dense to the senses. This isn't to say what is made will be readily accepted or commercially viable. Just that it is more dense in what can be perceived.
    I'd like to think that the time between releases is spent on personal growth, expansion in the quality in their relationships, and giving both themselves and the art they create the space to develop to full potential. I hope that what comes from that long process is what truly represents the artist at that time.
    Musicians, as a specific group of artists, have the dubious distinction of having to balance a coin with a thin edge: developing a maturation of their signature sound that is acceptable to fans while at the same time keeping a note of familiarity. If not done correctly, the fans reject the new sound and hamper the future development of the artist (for example, when Bob Dylan decided to use an electric guitar. Some people never got over that). When done just right, the artist creates a catalog that multiple groups will enjoy equally, even with different reasons to do so (Johnny Cash comes to mind).

    Not sure if it’s just for the moment or not but this beef got many people interested in lyricism again. Good lyricism is something the new generation of hip hop has been sorely lacking. All of the best rappers are mostly 30 and up. When is a new younger guy who can balance good lyricism and commercial appeal going to step to the plate?

    Definitely agree with this video. I knew of Kendrick but forgot about his music because of guys like Drake, Eminem making nice hits. Now, I have went back to watch his older videos and listen to those songs and they blew me away! This guy is good, no he is awesome at his craft. I didn’t think he would beat Drake and simply because of Drakes fan’s and following and I was wrong, totally wrong. Kendrick fans and people close to him knew he would win or at least be in the battle. They were wrong to because he simply obliterated Drake. I didn’t have to listen to Drake diss because Kendrick made them obsolete it didn’t matter if he was telling the truth or not. Simply didn’t matter. Kendrick is now global and all over the world and Drake gets 450 million dollars and shoes. Kendrick may get 500 million deal now. Hahaha

    You said not one thing about the industry that Kendrick was attacking behind or above Drake… like the racism that’s clearly evident in the beef, or Drake saying N***** with a hard N.
    That’s driving folks like Metro, Tyler, etc. not just lyricism in this man’s repertoire, his planning, execution, and poeticism that make his tale all about how he is trying to end rap battles between the greats.
    I believe J-Z said K-dot was the only one who could push the button. That button starting an actual rap-battle and ending one.

      There's been multiple good rappers. Kendrick ain't one of them that's for sure. He's 🗑️.

    Rap deserved study before Kendrick and deserves artistic merit after him. Even if it dwindled mainstream, the truly dope would have just been underground, and still are. I suppose the edge of mainstream to the underground is Earl Sweatshirt to billy woods or Mach-Hommy, Roc Marci or MIKE. Once you pass that threshold we get into people who been keeping the pen competitions updated. CRIMEAPPLE and Droog stay consistent. LUCKI, Zelooperz, Robb Banks and Tony Shhnow been advancing it too without being conventional lyrical rappers.
