    Rise in sound level from both pickups is due to Danelectro wiring the middle position of (virtually?) all their guitars in ‘parallel’, as opposed to the ‘normal’ convention of ‘series’.
    It looks like the bridge on this guitar is fully intonatable, i.e. each of te 12 strings as an adjustable saddle - something fairly unusual, and VERY useful, which might have been worth pointing out!
    BTW: The positioning of the octave strings of the bottom 4 pairs ABOVE the root note is the convention in (virtually) all acoustic and electric 12 strings. The only exception to this rule with 12 strings tends to be the (stratospherically priced) Rickenbacker twelves.

      hi Peter can you please tell me if the strings in the dano stay put on the bridge sadles ? I've read threads in forums where they were saying that the problem with cheap 12 string guitars is the string spacing due to the strings moving on the sadles... I'd really love to own one...

    People forget than Danelectro's middle switch position is both pickups in series. Think of it as a humbucker.

    • @Greenplantsky
      @Greenplantsky Před 8 lety +9

      well, two singles together doesn't equal humbucker. as far as I know, singles need to be connected with reverse polarity to become a humbucker.

    • @shaunday8460
      @shaunday8460 Před 7 lety +8

      Bohdan Kurch it's true that they would need to be reverse polarity to get the hum cancelling effect, but wired in series still gives the thicker sound we associate with humbuckers.

    • @isaiahknoot8997
      @isaiahknoot8997 Před 7 lety +5

      the neck pickup on this guitar is RWRP. the middle position is hum cancelling. A humbucker(generally) is two coils connected In series with one of the coils RWRP. You can think of the middle position as almost sort of resembling something like a humbucker.

    • @dennislbrown
      @dennislbrown Před 4 lety

      Not sure where you get that. The one pickup is RWRP, but the center position is wired in parallel, which is why it jangles. You get the same benefits of a humbucker, as far as hum is concerned, but they are not in series, so the tone isn't thick.

    • @gtarman59
      @gtarman59 Před 4 lety

      I can’t comment on the current models, but vintage Danelectros were wired in series, not parallel. Also, one example of a humbucker that is wired in parallel is the Filter’Tron used by Gretsch.

    • @tlw4237
      @tlw4237 Před 5 lety +4

      Acoustic 12 strings and electric 12 strings usually have the high/low of each pair the other way round. Acoustic have the low string at the top, electrics the high octave string. The exception is Rickenbacker who build their guitars to be strung like acoustics.
      Hitting the octave string first on a downstroke makes for a better amplified sound, especially if the amp is overdriving. Hitting the low string first on an acoustic adds some weight and a bit more bass to the tone.

      Just a suggestion--If you want a RIC stringing, buy the Lefty, and play it as Sir Paul played his first "Baby" with the controls on top!! That way the octave strings will then be on the bottom, where (IMHO) they belong anyway!!! BeaTle Geo.

    I own one of these Danoelectro's. It is easier to play then my Rickenbacker 330/12 as the neck on the rick is so narrow. The sound is great and the cost is about one fourth that of a Rickenbacker. Of course the Rick has the low strings on the top while the Dano has the higher strings on the top which is standard for allmost all 12 strings except the Rickenbacker .So there is a differance in the sound.I play 12 strings all the time and this Dano is a wonderful sounding guitar. I have the semi hallow body version. They also have a solid body version of this guitar.For the price you cant go wrong.

  • @JohannesLabusch
    @JohannesLabusch Před 6 lety +1

    I would have liked a clear close view of the bridge. The intonation sounds spot on on this one, but I would love to know how you can adjust it. Can you do that for the regular and octave strings individually? BTW, the reason there's that volume jump between the individual PUs and the middle position is that the latter selects the PUs in series. I think that's the case on all Danos, and I love that feature. It's almost like a built in booster.

    I have a Rickenbacker 360-12 and I actually prefer the Danelectro! Thruough an inexpensive Fender Blues Jr. III, it's a beuaitufl rhythm guitar. I keep both pickups (review at 6:00--there's a jangle, yet a bass presence--"really nice full-bodied sound") engaged, middle switch position. I don't prefer either neck or bridge pickup alone, but both togeher are marvelous. Neck is wonderful and easier to play than a more cramped RIck neck. It's a steal, especially if you can find one used.
