  • A friend hooked me up with this rust free 1974 karmann ghia that had been taken apart a long time ago for paint and never put back together, since then has been moved around from garage to garage loosing parts in the process, lets see what we have to work with and what it will take to fix it.

    As others have said, thank you Mustie for not bombarding us with sponsors, merchandise, and nagging us to subscribe and follow you on Facebook. All we get is high quality videos that we love. That's all we need!

    • @Hjerte_Verke

      A good CZcamsr shouldn't have to beg, and those that do beg for a subscription (just mentioning it is all it takes) never get one from me. Some people have a "subscribe" and click the bell notification recurring on the screen every15 seconds or so. Sooo annoying.

    • @brians48now
      @brians48now Před 10 měsíci +6

      Bombarding? Wow, talk about sensitive. I've never ever seen more than one sponsor on a video and if that helps to keep the content flowing then I'm absolutely fine with that. If you don't want to watch it then simply skip it. I imagine that you're one of those to yell "Get off my Lawn!" Leave the snowflake stuff to those that grew up with it. A senior should know better.

    • @tin2001
      @tin2001 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I wouldn't mind if he was sponsored by a company that didn't require a full ad read... like if they just had a silent 2 second title card at the start saying "sponsored by LOGO" and then some posters hanging in his garage, that would be fine. And would pay for parts and tools to make more interesting videos.
      Wouldn't even need to be a car related company... A coffee company, McDonald's... whatever. If they're paying a few hundred per week, it means he can buy more stuff to show us.

      👍👌👏 Yes, definitely! And for me it would be great to see an update on the Jawa motorbike that was almost finished anyway. But I'm asking Mustie1 this for years over and over again. Nothing happened, no answer, no information if it is maybe sold. His views have dropped significantly in comparison to former times. Nowadays the number is often only ⅓ to ½ of his amount of subscribers. Like me a lot of viewers like to see finished projects. And M1 definitely has a lot of unfinished ones.

      Exactly, Every time I see it in musties shop I think, "hasn't it been a couple years on that lift?" I wonder if Mustie is missing a vital part or something. Maybe lost interest with so much sheet metal work he had to do.

    • @Chr.U.Cas1622
      @Chr.U.Cas1622 Před 10 měsíci

      Dear @@born_again_torinos
      I wouldn't have bought a rodent infested vehicle like this. Inside the cabin is a kind of hollow sheet metal piece running on 3 sides. Full of mouse shit/urin and therefore totally rusted/rotted away. These parts are structural for the cabin and extremely difficult to change out. Additionally there is even more rodent damage in the cabin. In my opinion Mustie1 should try to sell the Econoline to enthusiasts. If I remember correctly, those little pickup trucks are sought after. A frightening end is better than an endless fright!
      Best regards, luck and health in particular.

    This brought back so many memories of working on my 1971 Karmann Ghia. I'd pull the engine nearly every winter (the heater boxes were gone with J-tubes) and add more chrome tin or something else. Back in the late 80's-early 90's the parts that you need used to be dirt cheap. Heck you could have found most of it in a JC Whitney catalog. I miss my Karmann Ghia - it will always be the coolest car I every owned.

    I did a 73 convert. Built a Gene Berg 2 liter that dynoed at 153 HP - matched to a Berg 5 speed. The gear splits put it in the power bad at each shift. Probably a low 13 second streetable car. It was truly a beautiful show and go car. Powdered costed pan etc. I sold it then after 9 years that guy I sold it to sold it for 36K. Fun car. It takes a lot of bucks to restore a Ghia correctly.

    Love it! To boot, you got the red one which brings your grand total to 3 Ghias! They are highly prized here in So Cal. I went nutz at the epilogue -- when you acquired the red one because it reminded me of my spanking clean and glorious "Porsche red" 1972 Ghia coupe I owned in the early 1990's. To this moment I miss it. Stock 1600cc engine, dual Solex 34mm carbs, tuned exhaust. Not much more horsepower but a lot more pulling power at low-mid range. From inside the cab it sounded like the engine was gargling mouthwash.

    Also, I don't know about the local law, but sometimes you can get away with bumper delete if they are missing and if it looks good without them on.

    He always amazes me how he can get engines to fire just doing the basics, that has to do with his vast amount of knowledge of engines and there systems! Very enjoyable

    Just when I start thinking, "Surely there are no more barn-find VWs out there" you find yet another.

    I love the ride height on this. I hope you leave it. Also, single stinger exhaust would look great. Good luck! I can’t wait to see the progress!

    Boxes boxes it just like Christmas . For the plugs you should go with gold plugs. Hot Hot. Lots of Work but we know you're up to it. Runs like a Champ.

    I remember back in the day when I was a freshman in high school, 1966, we had an English teacher that had a 1966 Karmen Ghia. One day a bunch of guys picked it up and put it on the breezeway at school. The look on her face was priceless when she came to get in her car to go home.! LOL

    That trailer is the bee's knees. In the world we live in being able to get old vehicles running is a blessing. All it takes is a corroded module to mess up a modern car.

    Gosh that takes me back. My first car was a 66 Ghia. I knew nothing and had little skills but I learned a lot working on that car. Then had another 66 and a 74 that I used for parts for 12v conversion.
    Wish I had all of then now. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Mustie!
