    Thank you for rescuing this artifact from decades gone by, sir. I wish more people would salvage these beautiful works of Americana and refurbish them to their brilliant glory of yesteryear. Again, THANK YOU!!!!

    I have this same machine sitting in my garage. My family is the original owners. My grandfather bought it brand new when he opened his shop in 1956

    I see sooooo many of these old machines with the wood grain STILL sitting at old garages that have changed hands or went out. Ones as old as from the 70s. Are they REALLY that expensive for the manufacturer/distributor to come pick up???

    He did a very nice job restoring this machine, and I agree that the machine is a work of art, but it hurt a little when that sandblaster went to work on that patina.
    I have what I believe to be a 1930s era wet cooler, copper tub and running compressor. I am wanting to restore the mechanics and maintain the patina; I have someone to work on the refrigeration; my plan is to keep the outside as it currently is. Eastwood Company has a patina preserver I would like use for the outside and a rust inhibitor for the inside of the box, would this work on my machine?

    • @troodon1096
      @troodon1096 Před 7 lety

      Patina? You mean rust and corrosion? To each their own, but I never got why people want to preserve evidence of degradation. Makes no sense to me. If the people that made the machine 60 years ago saw it in that state, they'd be horrified.

    It's amazing the amount of precious minutes that man spends chasing the past. Kind of futile when you think about it. You don't get that time back that you commit to it and you can't bring back that past - even if in your mind you THINK you're doing just that by restoring something old from that time period. The past is just that - and it's important not to live in it because then we waste the moment that we're currently in. And I don't say this as a young person with no perspective. I say this as a 56 year old person who's lost his share of people and things on this earth. You don't get them back. You're not meant to get them back. You're truly meant to move on, no matter how hard that is to do. And you know it's the correct thing to do because the right thing is so often the hardest thing to do but it bares the most fruit in the long haul.
    Just something to think about for all those "collectors" out there who waste their "current" on chasing a past trying to bring back the '50s or some bygone time from their memory. Quite honestly, what's the point? You usually find that all that item does once obtained is make you miss that past all the more. So why put yourself through it? Move forward, because you can't move backward. Just something to consider when you find yourself risking life and limb to hunt down that beanie baby from 1993.

      I respectfully disagree with your position regarding the restoration of machinery from a bygone era, and I am probably not the only one. I am definitively forward thinking, but I will usually turn my head when I see a beautiful 1955 Chevy Belair that passes me by on the sidewalk.

    • @BryceGlass
      @BryceGlass Před 3 lety

      Bostonclassics1 I would agree wholeheartedly except I don't know that the rust could be removed without removing the paint. The rust is the killer. If it had no rust, I'd say, "Hey, faded original is better than an approximation by the lab guys...and they obviously do a great job. Original is always preferable, if not always possible.
