    Wow! The last time I was in Salinas was in the 60s. In that time it never rained at all, so there was no water. All the water had to be trucked in by fleets of tanker trucks. Of course, that meant that there were no bugs, which was nice. There was a beach near there called Mar Bravo. It was said that after a big storm one could find gold coins on the beach because there was a sunken Spanish galleon offshore. Nobody could dive to the wreck because the water was too turbulent. It was much much less developed, but it was still a vacation spot.

    Salinas was a quiet little town up to the late nineties. I had a house about to blocks away from the beach just behind where the Pinguinos sold their ice cream. Now is over crowded and all those buildings on the board walk and not enough beach. As we live in the States now the only thing I miss is the plaza where you get all those restaurants with seafood close by .🍸🍸

    Thanks for this video. I don't think I would live in Salinas but, I can see where a visit would be wise. My plan was to fly to Guayaquil and go to Olon ASAP. I can see a few weekdays in Salinas between the two would be smart. I think it would be an easier transition from a US city, it would be handy shopping for anything you need and, if you end up in most of the coastal area, it would be great to know what's available in Salinas and what it's like there. I'd love to spend some time at the yacht club looking at the sailboats. From what I have seen it is stupid expensive to have a boat there.

    Hello Amelia And JP!
    Glad to see your report from Salinas! Traveling to Ecuador is still in my plans. Just renewed my Ecuadorian passport, good for 10 years.
    Salinas appears to need some nightlife, cultural venues, to compliment the many beach activities. But, every city grows in it's own way.
    The ex-pat lifestyle is still very attractive to Americans. The hyper-inflation here is causing a lot of financial pain. Even for the basic things like food, gas, everyday essentials. It appears everything has doubled in price.
    So, Ecuador is a very good option, with it's lower cost of living.
    Very happy to see you are doing well! Keep up the Great Videos from my home country, Ecuador!!!

    My family and I spent a couple of days in Salinas in 2007 or 2008 when we were visiting my wife's family (they live about an hour north of Guayaquil). It was summer in the US, so it was "winter in Ecuador and Salinas was pretty much devoid of tourists. The weather was mild and cloudy. We're visiting Ecuador in late May/early June this year for a couple of weeks. Our base of operations will be Samborondon/Guayaquil (my sister-in-law, who lives in Miami owns a condo there). We'll be visiting Manta, Salinas, Cuenca, Quito, and perhaps a couple of other locations during our trip.

    Sounds like Salinas could use some enterpreneurs to build up arts and entertainment scene! I landed in Loja , which I really like a lot, but the altitude is kicking my butt, so now thinking again about heading down to the coast. I did not care for Manta, so maybe Salinas for the great beach and water activities, good fresh food access... I need to move this body and regain fitness! And be closer to Int'l airport always seems like a good plan. We shall see if I can acclimate up here.... got at least 2 more months.

      @@hump1953 Hi Hump I'm sorry if I caused offence. I haven't fully decided positively where I'll be retiring yet but it will probably be either Argentina or Ecuador. I've ruled out the Eurozone as it's a rip off just as the UK and North America are. I'm afraid indigenous poverty does exist in South America as you say, but it won't be alleviated if foreigners stay away.

    So the big question....Manta or Salinas? ;)

    • @AmeliaAndJP
      @AmeliaAndJP  Před 2 lety

      That’s a tough one. I think right now with the rental shortage in Manta and the high rental rates, as well as a better beach, Salinas might edge out Manta. Although Manta has a functional airport so it’s easier to travel.

    I have enjoyed fooling your travels in Ecuador. Can you help me find a plastic surgeon in Quinta? Or recommend how I can find one. I am 70 and have lost a lot of weight, now I have a big hang over belly that causes infections. My insurance won’t pay. So I’m trying to find an afforadable option.
