  • In this build I introduce "the God Crusher," my Monk build specifically to prove everyone wrong that monks and non caster classes are all weak. This Monk build is the most powerful physical build in the entire game as well as being an intimidate build. I'll show you how to level, what classes to take, what gear you will need and what the build can do with intimidate, persuasion and fear. This is from the Pathfinder Kingmaker PC game, specifically the Imperial edition.

Monks don't really need to have much INT, and scaled fists don't need much WIS. I wouldn't dump either, but having 10-12 there will save you 3-5 stat points that can be used to boost scores you actually need. The reason why Monks don't need INT is they aren't skill characters. You need 3 ranks in acrobatics for the extra fighting defensively bonus, then the rest can be put into the critical skills of perception and persuasion. Other characters in your party are going to be far better at the knowledge skills, so no reason to invest. Since this build dips into Viv, you might go with an 11 or 12 int just so you can cast spells, but it's not needed since your stats will be increased by the 3 stat buffing items. This build doesn't really need much Wisdom, because while scaled fists have bad will saves, nearly every effect that failing will saves has can be prevented or negated by items and spells (prebuffing or after the fact). Once again I wouldn't argue with a 12 in Wis since it's cheap and a little useful. But putting both those stats at 12 gives your build 6 character build points. Which is enough to boost your actually important stats another tier. Something like 16, 14, 14, 12,12,15 starting out. +1 to hit and damage at the cost of -1 to will saves and -1 skill point is a fair trade. Especially in the early game where the difficulty is the highest.
Also glitterdust is one of the better single target CC spells. It blinds on failed saves and reveals invisible creatures. It's actually good and it made me sad to have it ignored and dismissed.

I understand wanting to avoid the insane min-maxing of starting stats, but the whole time I'm thinking to myself about the increasing strength more since this build is supposed to focus on intimidation. It's his build at the end of the day & at least this isn't the typical lawful good one level monk/paladin dip BS that plagues Kingmaker.

I don't know if maybe you were trolling a bit in this build guide, but where you are talking about the stat setup and explaining the adds and minuses and how you can end up building an inherent weakness into your character by min-maxing the stats too much, I think you have missed an important extension of your perspective. Yes, you get a better overall return if you don't push a stat up to excessive levels, having to 'spend' increasing points to get to the peak and burn other stats to get there, but flatlining all your stats is also as problematic giving you no strong focus and weakening your build. There's a good middle ground where you maximise your point returns and have good peaked stats without any real weakness.
You did 14, 14, 14, 14, 14, 15 and your adds ended up being 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, no weaknesses. But Muse Touched Asimar allows Dex and Charisma both to be moderately peaked with little to no downside, and for a Scaled Fist Monk the amalgamated peaks add up to significant core survivability benefits early. A stat spread of 13 (Str), 16 (Dex), 14 (Con), 14 (Int), 12 (Wis), 16(Cha) gets 1, 3, 2, 2, 1, 3, which is the same as your add total. The first stat point infusion you bumped the 15 to 16, making your add spread 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3. My first infusion I round out the 13 Strength to make my adds 2, 3, 2, 2, 1, 3, which is the same total as yours, but I am +2 AC ahead from the start and once I get Thug at level two I am 1 Attack plus ahead of you at the cost of one damage point and a Wisdom save point. I also have another persuasion point for the first four levels till you even out your Charisma. Given persuasion is the tentpole skill for dazzling display, that's pretty significant. You also have to 'buy up' to your elevated Dex much later in the game, and my Dex, which again, is central to both AC and Attack, is always 2 potentual points higher than yours. So I have lost very little while gaining core character aspects and not wasted any of my initial stat points trying to peak any one stat.
The reality is that an entirely median approach as you suggest ignores that each class does have focused aspects that 'magnify' off base stats and that configuring to favor those, even occasionally burning some points to amplify features, pays off more than if you simply try to draw an unwavering line the middle. This is a case of the whole being more than the sum of its parts. I don't like dump stats and min/maxing as I think you are right, that creates a serious weakness and it's just stupid from a role-playing perspective, but your homogenized version isn't really any better.
The rest of the guide is pretty solid though, and I think you genuinely meant well with your stat principle.

I Mean ... i get the arguement he was trying to do truth be told Min Max dos give you weakness and giving yourself a bit more well rounded is a good thing, but you can do anything to an extreme including fucking Well rounded characters, Example in 3.5 a barbian can just go 18 str 18 con, but he can benefit more from a 16 con by increasing his dex to 14, Heck he could go 18 dex and duel wield if he wanted and so on so forth
For a Monk you only realy need 4 stats over-all Str / Dex / Con / Wis, You could go 16 in 2 of them 14 in the other 2 in 3.5 point buy system (20 for the two 16 stats 12 points for the two 14's) add in racial bonus to increase a 16 into an 18 or such and you can do well. Its a harder to build / harder to understand build however.
Also anyone claiming that Martial classes are bad ... dont realy understand the game all that well if they think there all bad lol.

    • @cameronb851
      @cameronb851 Před 3 lety +1

@@THAC0MANIC - I understood his original point and I don't disagree with his assessment of the 'value' of extreme min maxing, my point was that picking a purely homogeneous median solution with no immediate 'strengths' is actually not that useful either. He was focused on the math of character creation, while I was point out that the best solution there doesn't make the best comprehensive solution for the variability of the game and that it was important to acknowledge that different character classes had different focused needs to enhance their role. I used an example that refined his 'best value' character creation buy theory, while still providing moderately boosted stats particular for the role of the character he was building.
Truth be told though, I would still sacrifice more of the less important stats to get a better class focus on the character to begin. I was just point out that if he was going to theorycraft based on the math, then you can do better than just 'make everything the same and you get the most!'. I got the most, and got a better focused character.

@@cameronb851 No I Get that as well I Was kinda agreeing with you just from another angle.
I Mean whenever ppl argue power levels to me in a RPG A Few things come to mind
      A) Stages of the game, Early? Mid? Late? Ppl dont like power level guides that only talk about how strong it is at the very end game, It can sometimes suck ass early-md game and thus make ppl not enjoy most of the game its like br0 its end game the game is almost over by that point pike off with just now being strong ...
      B) Simple / Easy to use, Is the build simple enough you can make modifications to it to try your own thing? I Mean something like Get Str as high as possible Pick up Power Attack take a two handed weapon and be a Fighter Two handed is pretty f-in simple i dont mention what you can do with all your other feats or other ability point spread, go for dex or con or w.e you want for roleplay options its Flexible enough to do so, Then there are some builds that are SO Complex if you fuck up a level or a feat or something it can give you such a huge differcult time, Even if you needed said feat maybe you decided to take it later or earlyer then normal and thus the build is still fixible, your going to have a hard time and thus force you into Respecing your character or deal with it.
      C) Companions / Party Comp, To me in Pathfinder kingmaker I Dont wanna play as a bard coz i find Linzi good enough in that role, Dont get me wrong i think there nice (Hints why in my party comp i pretty much always use linzi) But do i need to be said class as well? No I find that pretty silly to do, Some ppl like roleplaying as certain aspects in which case w.e, Some ppl want something more Unique
I Dont like playing skill horde type of characters in pathfinder kingmaker or healers over-all coz of the large amount of companions you have that fit the bill. The only thing i kidna think about is healers coz im not a huge fan of the 3 designated healers in the game (Personality or build wise)
Most Power Guides / Min Max players have no real flexibility and tend to gloss over the weakness of there builds i wish more power guides or such keept at least the above 3 in mind (I can name more mind you but im allready ranting)
4 Stats is all you realy need on a monk, having 6 of them is kinda Bleh ... 2 little butter spread across to much toast.

Ah, nostalgia. I still remember powerbuilding in Neverwinter Nights 2 with Monk + Rogue + Shadow Dancer, which had Hide in Plain Sight, Flurry of Blows and around 10+ attacks per round with his dual wielded kamas each with +4~6k6 stealth attack modifier which pulverized EVERYTHING (if you were buffed by something to actually land them, and not miss haha). Ah, good times. Didn't play the Pathfinder yet tho, but after watching this maybe I will. I kinda miss the powerbuilding and the fun it provides.

Good Build my dude. It's been months since I played this game and I've never had the patience to beat it. Anyways, i'd like to add that wisdom does not actually increase your stunning fist as a scaled fist, so you don't need 14
I remember the build i played first time through was Monk 1/ Thug 1/ Sorcerer 8/ Dragon Disciple 10. Or somthing along those lines. I dumped wis and int for more STR and CHA and was angelblooded for the bonuses in the two as welI. Picked up dragon style, which doubled my STR bonus to my attacks and gave me a bunch of resistances.
Dragon Disciple itself granted a ton of nat armor increases that actually stacked with other natural armor, as well as granting inherant bonuses to STR, CON, and INT. Not only that, but it gave you a powerful dragon bite with 1.5x STR mod , that although the in game text says is only available when using claws is actually available all of the time.
The main draw to my build was that it had a lot of caster levels, and could cast a lot of high level magic without the assistance of other characters, while still being stronger than other martials, making it great for solo runs. Transformation especially makes up for lost attack bonus at later levels.

I'm not sure if scaled fists use charisma on stuns tho, based on my testing it seems like stunning fist still scales off wisdom

    • @purplekt1722
      @purplekt1722 Před 4 lety +1

MR. OBVIOUS After checking for myself it seems that you are correct.
In the source material for Pathfinder the scaled fist archetype did use charisma instead of wisdom for stunning fist. Though it seems like they didn't adapt that properly into kingmaker, while I built my character under the assumption they did. My guess is just that they didn't want to bother programming that, but neglecting to do so hurt the archetype quite a bit.
It looks like they also lowered dragon disciples hit dice from the original d12 down to a d8 when adapting it to kingmaker. Kinda tempts me to create a mod that makes the two more faithful to the original tabletop game.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to interact with the community. Have a wonderful day.

Mr. Obvious, I know you off spending a lot of time and effort doing your 'other' commentary videos (I know cause I love to watch them) but how about guides for each of your party members, like a guide for building Valerie, Jubilost, etc.? I don't run with many party members whether with your 'God Crusher' build or any other main character build, but I, as well as others, would love to know how you built your party members that went along with this nice 'God Crusher' build. Thank you, as always for your time and efforts in making your vids, mate.

Build is a ton of fun. I'm struggling a bit in the mid-game like all monks do but I picked up cornugan smash early to make up for that. Not sure if that will mess up my progression down the line but ya. I couldn't tell if I was using a feat in place of bonus feat and messing that up by nabbing cornugan smash.
I'm going to try tiefling monk next run since I found a cool item that trips people when I bite them in the face. Wondering if maybe there are upgradeable items that have that "biting people" synergy. Vampire scoundrel monk build next plz ty.
Another thing I love on this build: barbed spine spell from jubilost. Makes people take damage when hitting you and adds damage to unarmed fisties. Crazy spell if you take infusions to let jubie cast it on you.

Love this game. I will definately attempt this build next campaign play of this game. I played a standard rogue with two-weapon fighting dueling swords. With how I spec'd myself with Dex, Cha, and Con. I have it as a front line fighter who tanked with other fighters near me to wreck shit with 35 AC. I am at last chapter in game and I am not sure if I wanna finish it because I love my character too much.
Also, they gotta make a multiplayer mod for this game so you and your friends can make a 6 man team to wreck shit. It would be like Diablo but ACTUALLY ENJOYABLE to play. Please modders, find a way to make multiplayer a reallity. I would enjoy wrecking shit side by side with friends.

I'm re-playing this now and re-speced Valerie into a Two-Handed Weapon Fighter, giving her a Fauchard (1d10, 18-20 crit, and reach). She's completely broken, easily and reliably doing over 100 dmg in one round at lvl 10, and not uncommon to do over 300 dmg. Add in Cornugon Strike, Shatter Defenses, and Cleaving Finish and she's a one-woman wrecking ball without equal.
I'm up to lvl 15 right now and she's my #1 damage dealer, hitter, destroyer, and the only thing the casters can do to keep up is hope that a Hold Monster or something sticks. Oh, and buff HER with haste.

Mad dog barbarian pit-born tiefling named Torn is what I'm playing level 1 I picked up tower shield proficiency. Its mildly amusing but god damn I didn't realize how bad towershields are (unless you are that fighter archetype)
Also in a tabletop campaign playing a mutation warrior fighter human that goes by Lee "Ghost Finger" in a heavy homebrew frostpunk game. He dual wields hammers, has an effective light load of 200lbs and gets 4 attacks per round at level 6 (Mythic Rank 1). I've been crafting a lot of war crimes with this character too (he has 15 alchemy and an alchemist lab)
