  • In this episode I talk about my recent camping trips to the Lake District, vent my fury at the irresponsible tools who litter the country side and discuss consumerism in Wild Camping as I get sucked into a light weight camping rabbit hole!

The times I’ve talked myself out of a camp because of “what if’s”! Glad to know it’s not just me. Enjoyed that again mate thanks

Great talk. You ramble like a pro. I have also been through that period of my backpacking years when I was so anxious. I've beat it back with 2 techniques. I have developed a packing checklist and packing technique that is almost foolproof. Second, I have made a deal with myself. It took some discussion, a few arguments, but I eventually won me over. I have convinced myself that I will spend very little time planning the details such as where to tent, which trail to take, and such. I will just set up where I decide to stop. Of it is not where I thought it would be that's fine. If I find there was a better option then I will return and do that better option. And I will repeat until I get it right. Worse case I will know that mountain inside and out. I will make that mountain mine. King of the hill! Then on to the next trail. A bad pitch on a rocky slope is better than a good pitch with a tired, stressed mind.

I've enjoyed your first two episodes of this podcast and looking forward to following as it progresses. I'd imagined you were more of a long-term wild camper, before I listened to these. :-) I'm with you all the way on the laziness of some, being unprepared to take their weightless waste back home with them.

Cracking episode again. Cheers for the shouts out too pal. Much appreciated…Agree with the light weight stuff (he says as he has just posted a 3kg load out 🤣) I’ve been trying to get my pack down for the past 18months or so due to ongoing back injuries. It also makes the hiking much more pleasurable. I’ve done the 18kg packs and they aren’t fun let’s be honest. Agree that some people take it too far though and it seems “fashionable” in some cases. Guess as with everything it depends on your rationale. Another great podcast. Keep em coming mate 👏🏻👏🏻

Thank you pal and you’re welcome, really enjoy the vids! And haha great timing with the lightweight video. I’ll cut my bank card up before watching that I think!! I was going to message you to ask about the Z packs bag you’ve got but I can just watch the vid now! Thanks for the comment pal, atb, Ryan.

@@ryanhuntermedia it was just an Instagram post no video 😂. I’m out tomorrow using the kit though so might do a quick run through if I can be bothered. I’m a bit lazy when it comes to reviews and stuff.

I've only had 4 nights in my 2021 Lanshan 1 (non-pro), but they were consecutive which I think is a reasonable test.
I rate it, especially for the money. I'm 6'2" and fairly gutty atm, and the room for me was fine with a large thermarest mummy-shaped pad.
Was going to do some tarp-only nights in it with a tyvek bag cover of theirs (which would've made it about 650g all in), but ended up getting a meniscal tear in my knee so have just been day hiking since last September.

Also, base weight gets to be an obsession: I'm currently at 7.5kg base for 4 nights (with a chair, a 20kmah charger, and a wash-kit as I mostly site-camp as well a spare pub t-shirt and pants) which atm I'm ok with. As is my bank account.
You're right about bodyweight though, I'm the same (105kg atm and should be 90ish). Cheaper to lose 15kg in bodyweight as-in-free rather than another 3kg in base weight.

Thanks for the comment Andy! I’ve got my base weight down to 6.8kg and that’s with my scarp. Looking forward to the lanshan arriving! Cheers pal

Nice podcast and i think most people will agree with you regarding the kit that we can or cannot afford… or need.
On that note, where did you go in the end to purchase the lanshan 2 pro as i’m looking now to buy one but can’t seem to find a reputable seller.🤷‍♂️
