Beautiful . . . I think anyone who has lost a significant other due to neglect or etc. can relate to this song . . . When you look back you realize there was a part of her you smothered and killed . . . maybe not permanently . . . but in the context of your relationship . . . likely forever
i have been a fan of the Handsome Family for a long time the local college radio station plays a lot of different music and one dj played a song years back and i was hooked up this great music i like to music to this song the lyrics are of a person's death as in his wife yet still the best part is how gentle the music is and how great the vocals are.
Just been watching videos by best band ever (Beatles) - only option thereafter to check out videos by best band on planet currently (HF). Will never tire of promoting the most under-rated band ever. Regards and respect to Brett and Renie
If you love great lyrics and beautiful melodies buy a Handsome Family recording. My personal favourite album is 'In the Air' but quite frankly, in my opinion, if Rennie Sparks wrote it and Brett Sparks put it to music it's gonna be special.
Mad mad mad skillz! Both the audio and the makeshift video guys ... to The Handsome Family and to the video hack ... Namaste! ... I bow to you both. Gorgeous~!
Bi-polar Disorder (manic depression), is not schizophrenia. Brett was hospitalized and diagnosed with Bi-polar Disorder. Not an uncommon diagnosis among the arts community.
wrong. i'll give you a hint: the trailing black vines is a metaphor. he didn't actually kill me, we weren't actually married, but he gave me up alright. -heather
What he meant was that he loved his wife so much he had to kill her. You can appreciate that when your point of view is that this is a tough world, and the other world is a better one. The Handsomes' have had a heart life. Remember that they are recovering schizophrenics.

It's a metaphor. Not an uncommon one, at that. The french call an orgasm the "little death".
I think people do not listen to the lyrics when they say "beautiful". That man killed his wife.
wtf?
