Videos on writing and the setbacks of being an aspiring Author.

You are selling yourself short. You are a very good educator. Every video I've watched where you give advice, has helped me immensely. And this one, I couldn't wait to click on it because this is the advice I needed next for my book. I love also that you visually hold up books to show us, the trim size, pages, etc. A big thank you for your videos.
I'm so glad I could be any help at all Gina, thanks for watching and leaving the nice comment!
100% agree about Garamond!!
Oh, don't mind me - I'm just taking notes for the next quiz.
#TeamTimesNewRoman
that's a losing team, friend 😉
Quiet, guys, the movie's starting!!!
😎
Why did your bit about dipping your hand in the "giant tea" kill me 😂😂😂
😂
I know I said this on the last vlog but!! I’ve watched so many writing vlogs but your editing is like no other!!! so engaging!
Rachel! Fancy seeing you here. Love your videos. OBSESSED with Fostered. Hope to actually READ the series one day if you decide to publish the books.
A friend recommended me to make 30-40 pages for my graphic novel "Let the Bones Be Unburied". So, I'm going to try 40 pages for each episode.Though if I decide to write my story as a novel, I might give it 100,000 to 200,000 words because it's a big story to tell. I'm writing the story with Trocchi font because I enjoy how it feels like a typewriter and how bold it is to my eyes. I always had trouble writing in Garamond or Times New Roman.
Also, so glad to see your kitty again. And your doggo is cute too!
Graphic novels are definitely a different game, although I don't think I know enough to speak too much on those 😂
Bonnie says hi
Awwww baby cam flash back!
Loving the writing vlogs! 😊
haha feels like a million years ago, and a day ago all at once 😂
@@CamWolfeAuthor yeah feel that 🤣
My preferred fonts are "Chanticleer Roman" for serif and "Arcon" for sans serif.
Garamond is my favorite too. Just bought Welcome Descent and will start it after I finish my project.
Thanks Valerie!
Dog play, OMGosh, cute dog! Good video. I hope to catch more of your livestream writing sessions.
Thanks Priscilla!
These blogs are fun to watch!
Thanks Paul!
Yesss, Garamond. I remember I was attempting to write a story a couple of years ago using Times New Roman. I was staring at the screen for a while, and all of a sudden, I thought, "This font is ugly." The edges were so sharp and pointy; it reminded me of school and writing essays (which I never enjoyed). So I did some research on fonts and discovered Garamond. The edges are smoother, so it looks more inviting, yet still professional. I thought I was a pretentious nerd 🤓 for thinking that deeply into it.😅 I probably am.🙃
well said
Thanks for this. Really helpful video. Getting ready to self publish in a while and good to have these questions answered before I even knew to ask them...!
Glad I could help! Good luck with your book mate
I love the tiny paperbacks that fit in your hands, I wish they were the standard
Agreed!
We are having the same thing here in the Pacific Nothwest in the US. We were almost out, but now back to the lockdowns. *sigh*
I hope you're safe Michelle, look after yourself 😃
I’m going with Garamond with my next book. Glad I’m making a good choice! 😅 I agree, it’s simple but looks the nicest. Fantastic video! The KFC bit had me dying 😂
garamond has always been my go to, it looks pretty good
Thanks Cameron, and best of luck on the new release!
Beautiful Eastern Australia! Is THIS your Winter right there? :)))
Great video.
I'm curious to know how book prices affect the book market in Australia. Are they generally more expensive in print?
I've found that book prices in Aus are pretty wild, for the most part we won't get them printed here 😬
*sends my short story in Droid Serif (my favorite font)* Just kidding lol You're getting that today btw, last beta got back. What a timely moment to discuss fonts and such lol
can't wait, thanks Slaidey!
Hi there, it's fascinating to discover your channel, I just subscribed to you. I was checking out on fellow BookTubers in the community, and it's exciting to find you.
I love your techniques, illustration and method of book reviews. I'll start checking up for more contents on your channel.
Your content is amazing.
Hey thanks!
I'm halfway through the vid but like, WOOLWORTHS IS STILL ALIVE IN AUSTRALIA?! Woolworths, my beloved... still alive... :') I've missed Woolworth's so much (it died in the UK when I was a kid)
Also I had no idea your hand was so tiny in comparison to your mug: you gotta be careful when reaching into boiling water to grab small pots of honey!
Oh hell yeah, Woollies is one of the top grocers here! It's my fav, mostly because their roast chickens are TOP tier
Honestly, I hate how publishers want fantasy books from first time authors to be around 80k, because then you get a story that feels really blank and empty if that makes sense 😅 I like big books. I like well written big books. Of course it might be discouraging to pick up a book and feel it's _thickness_ but when you start reading it... If the story is good... It's the best thing ever.
In the end the font styles and sizes doesn't matter. The story as a whole is what really matters.
I recently started to use Arial and font size is 12 to draft. It's helps me to keep writing longer than before. Keeping simple is good 👌
Most of us dream about traditional publishing but wait, 100'000 words? 😵
Yeah, I rather self-publish... 😈
Times New Roman, 12>>>
I'm uncomfortable with anything else.
Don't argue with me, I'll win.
🤐
I need to get twitch, but I know if I do I will not be a fully functioning human being and probably get no work done😂 I was so bummed to miss the majority of your ten hour stream, but hey what can you do. I don't know how I'm going to write 40000 words at all... it's daunting to think that's what a novel is. Boy I need to get some more practice and write a tiny bit more 😂 Perhaps the next stream I will actually write for once
Twitch is calling you... 😉
I've noticed that the more "standard" size books are 6x9 or 5x8 but why aren't there more 9x6 or 8x5? Why is the wider orientation (with a shorter height) not as popular? I ask because I am interested in creating a small book with only one or two lines accompanying each illustration that will be on each page, with a total of maybe 25-30 pages.
What about Novelettes??? I thought a story from 10,000 - 20,000 was a novelette. I could be wrong, so I wouldn’t make any bets here, but I believe I’m correct… but I won’t bet on it lol! Great video, even though you left out novelettes… lol! 😊
Novelettes are definitely a thing too! They just don't get talked about much 😂
Cam, I’m really grateful for this information; I’ve been stuck in limbo about this exact thing. So close to publishing, wish me luck. Thanks dude.
No worries Jimmy, good luck with the release!
me, with my 340K words WIP: 👀
😂
I always thought the best books are long in the beginning, short at the end, and in the middle… it varies. As for size… you know that thing where you accidentally bonk yourself on the nose because you fell asleep while reading? Not fun with a hardback edition of LOTR, I just about broke my nose.
As for lockdown… I know it sucks but I really wish the U.S. would do the same thing. Cases are rising at an alarming rate and people are just… well… going to 3 day christenings, for instance. It’s insane. And on that note I’m gonna go angst at a bag of KFC.
😂 definitely wouldn't want to drop those bricks on my face

To be fair, I recall Twitch chat very much encouraging you to buy McDonalds in the wee hours of the morning so that's on us 🤷🏼♀️I'm also now seeing why you were doing that research about book sizes lol.
P.S. I'm publishing my book in Wingdings size 7 and nobody will stop me
Loving the sexy bits and gotta get myself a velvet purple robe 😍 thanks for the info 👍🏾 and yes KFC is addictive... Just like chocolate 😉 you need both to thoroughly love life Good health be damned we're all dying in a nuclear holocaust anyway
Robe gang! 😎
@@CamWolfeAuthor Question Cam
Do you use a formulaic plot structure such as Save the Cat, 8 point, Snowflake method, Write from the middle, the reverse method, 3 Act etc to piece together your Metaphorical Frankenstein monster? I have tried quite a few and find I always end up writing either the Beat method or an amogulation of 8 point 3 act and Beat. In other words a plum hot mess until a story emerges. Thanks love! -- Nikki
