  • This is apparently the first EVER recorded solo from Oscar Pettiford. It was recorded for a Coleman Hawkins Record called Classic Tenors in 1943. What impresses me is that Oscar was only 21 yrs old at the time, and he blazed thru that 206 bpm song. This is my attempt to play his solo on my 1963 Fender P-Bass with flat-wound strings.
You can find my transcription for this solo @ www.playbasslin... Enjoy!

This is great! I've has such a hard time finding a recording where the bass is actually audible (unless I'm plugged in) which has made my own transcription really difficult.
Nice playing, and thanks for the bass boost!
