Minecraft USED to be SCARY... What happened?

  • Minecraft has changed a lot over the years resulting in it losing a lot of its horror element that could be seen in older versions like Alpha. However, it isn’t exactly the game's fault for doing so. It removed much of its horror element and that's okay. The game has evolved a lot between 2009-2023 resulting in many changes and updates. I hope you enjoy :)

I haven't been uploading because of some computer issues. My laptop died on me, but now I have a new PC and am ready to get back to it. I hope you enjoy the video :)

Even today, the End and the Nether are still kinda scary to me. Not really in a horror sense, I guess, but more of a "if I'm not careful, I could lose everything." Watching youtubers bridge across giant gaps in the End gives me a lot of anxiety, and doing it myself is even more nerve-wracking.

There will be one thing that will always scare you in Minecraft...
    Random cave noises!

cave sounds actually are the most haunted and terrifying sounds I've ever heard in my life. Probably just before the screaming before death.

I feel like Minecraft should add more hostile mobs that are stronger even when you have good armor like the warden.

Baby zombies sorta counter sprinting. Also, make a video talking about what a mob is, since the wiki counts jockies as their own mob. The wiki trears the trader llama as a varient of the llama, and the killer bunny is a seperate mob from the rabbit.

the biggest factor is probably back then everyone was just younger and had more a more open thought processes towards everything. with all the knowledge the game has nowadays it will never reach the same level of wonder that the old versions did.

I feel like Minecraft needs a difficulty curve. Something like Terraria where the enemies get harder as the game progresses. Ex: Something like entering the nether for the first time could allow different variants of the normal mobs to spawn with better loot. That way the game never feels stale when you get powerful gear. Sort of like those skeleton horse traps, but being more common as the player gets better gear.

I definitely can see how older versions of Minecraft give off a more “scary” vibe but I think it’s only because we’re looking back on it. Like you mentioned in the video, everything that made those seemingly more unsettling weren’t intended but I have to wonder if people who were playing alpha back in those days thought the same. Maybe at first but you get accustomed to it. I definitely prefer modern day Minecraft and I still do think that there are plenty of things in it that are still unsettling. To me, by far the scariest thing ever in Minecraft would be the ancient city as going to one literally turns Minecraft into a horror game.

I add mods in modern minecraft that make mobs less predictable, faster and more common, also reduce enchants to level 3, and remove netherite and beds, it helps a little
I still prefer beta for the liminal nostalgic feel, thats why I also play with old textures

I think it really depends on your game style and your age too. I guess Mojang and especially Microsoft want to open to younger audiences, therefore the game should be easier from an experienced gamer's point of view, and also the world filled more with life and structures keeping the interest alive.

they need to make hard mode HARD
mobs should have more health, hit harder, be faster, have better, AI
play nightmare epic siege mod, that shows it
also enchants need to be nerfed, they would get a lot of hate from the community, but I really want it, and netherite was a mistake

@@NikoKuehne "Warmth" is a quite unnerving Nether track
Personally I think "Ancestry", which plays in deep-dark biomes, is the most unnerving track in the game.
