- Tales of the Jedi is one of the best things to happen to Star Wars in a long while, so piecing together the timeline of the series was a ton of fun for me. This video also outlines some pretty significant retcons to the canon. Here’s the chronological order of episodes, as we’ve determined it.
Justice: c. 63-60 BBY
Choices: c. 48 BBY
Life and Death: 36 & 35 BBY
The Sith Lord: 32 BBY
Practice Makes Perfect: 22 BBY, c. 21-20 BBY, & 19 BBY
Resolve: 19 BBY, c. 12-5 BBY

This is wonderful. I hope that it goes viral. Your timelines are amazing.
Really pleased to hear you enjoyed the video. Thanks Graff.
@@Geekritique Marie believes that she heard Imogen announcing each of the episode titles...is she correct (I believe she is...but that is ALWAYS the safest answer).
Also, was wondering IF you could also place all the TV shows (especially the latests ones) on the Star Wars timeline (using BBY and ABY). We know where all the novels are set, but it gets confusing with the new TV shows. Just a thought.
Marie has a great ear, it is indeed Imogen haha!
Yeah, I’d love to help out with a tv show timeline.
YES!!! STAR WARS!!!! You should do a full timeline of Star Wars!
An excellent video! I found Dooku's comment about "victory" particularly interesting, because it seemed to suggest he was already familiar with Sith teaching.
Thanks Tom. Great point, I hadn’t even caught that!!
It'd be nice a video of the Star Wars expanded universe timeline, with books, comics, short stories, games, etc
That would be awesome.
Still haven’t seen these shorts but seem cool
You gotta check em out!!
Please make a video of the full Star Wars Timeline (and showing everything that is canon), I would really loveee to see that!!! Nice vid 😁
I definitely will, but it’s a massive project. Someday!
Really great stuff man! Would love a full Star Wars timeline a la your MCU stuff.
I definitely hope to make one someday!
This was a great video. I hope you can do more star wars timelines soon.
I think I just might!
i saw all 6 shorts of Tales Of The Jedi it was freaking awesome i loved it now it makes more sense and it explains alot about dooku and more and that was perfect
Totally agree, everything the shorts highlighted was very cool.
I would love more Star Wars timeline’s
Glad you liked it!
I loved this. Shared it with a few friends. Hope you get more views! I'd love an Andor video, though it's pretty straightforward, but still. Love your commentary
Thank you, Jesus. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great work man, I appreciate you!
I appreciate YOU! Thanks for commenting.
I’m so excited to see more than MCU timelines from you
Thank you, I’m excited to make them!
@@Geekritique always good for a content creator to branch out
It's my understanding that print media is meant to be taken as if filtered through a storyteller's perception and visual media as accurate depictions. With comics being a bit of a mixed bag. So the TotJ episode is strictly canon while the Ahsoka book is slightly altered as if being told by someone else who wasn't there and can get things wrong. I know that wasn't how Disney presented canon at the time of their purchase, but apparently that's what it has evolved into. This is how I look at it now. Books, comics, and short stories are told by not-completely-reliable narrators. Films, TV shows, and core game cutscenes are windows directly to those events. So it's evolving closer to how the tiers of canon used to work in the pre-Disney days.
It is fire 🔥 I extremely enjoyed it and it has steer up my desire to start watching all of these shorts and all Star Wars movies, thank you
You’re very welcome! Glad you liked it!
Great Video 🎉
Thanks Pickle Man.
Yes!!! Been waiting for this one!
Yeah, we talked about this on CBK last week!
@@Geekritique Excellent work as always!
I appreciate it!
amazing video. this video is really helpfull
Thank you Exbyte! I’m glad I could help.
Great video! Fantastic details. Love your work!
Hey man!! Love your videos!!!😀
@@tdog2658 Yeah, Geekritique does such a great job with all the intricate details.
Thanks man, glad you liked the vid.
I'm enjoying this content.
Thanks Carl!
Im doing a huge star wars binge to get into the universe so this video came at a great time! I loved tales of the jedi i thought it was solid. Shame to hear about the books. Cant wait to see that massive star wars and avatar timelines!!
Ooo, that sounds fun! Glad to get this to you at such a good time.
I really hope Star Wars content thrives on your channel going forward. It deserves all the views. I've been using your MCU Timeline for months now, even adding Pre-MCU / Outside MCU cinematic content before the MCU begins starting with Howard the Duck. I'm already at AOS Slingshot and it's a super fun experience. Hoping for a full Star Wars canon timeline at some point because I wanna go through it the same way. I got a list but not having read most of the comics or novels, my list probably isn't as accurate as it could be. You're the master at this. Even if it doesnt happen, I'mma still be here for every upload. Keep doing what you're doing. I'll be sharing and everything ✌️❤️
Thanks man, this was nice to read. Glad to hear your chronology is an enjoyable watch!
Personally, I see the events from the Ahsoka novel to be the true events, with the Resolve short just being a retelling or tale on what happened. Would explain the simplified version and keep the novel in canon
That’s an interesting idea actually. Hmm
@Geekritique Glad you think so! I think it poses a decent solution, though I still wish the novel was a bit more accurately depicted to prevent confusion
I’m really excited for a timeline video like the MCU ones mostly curious how your going to split up the shows seasons
I’m curious too, trust me haha 😂
Fantastic video as always man! I finally had the chance to check out Tales of the Jedi (I know I'm sure late 😅) and I loved it and really hope we get a season 2 exploring different characters in diffrent eras in the Star Wars Universe! Can't wait to check out your Avatar The Way of Water video after I've seen the film!
Aww thank you for the comment! Glad you liked the series and checked out the vid! Very much appreciate it! I totally agree, this series has such potential, as well as a potential Tales of the Sith series. I think that would be awesome.
@@Geekritique Anytime man! And man... a Tales of the Sith series would go so hard!!! 😳🔥
Nice video! Are you going to do a new DCEU updated timeline with Black Adam movie?
That would be awesome! I want to for sure.
So was Palpatine's sesh with Dooku before/after the funeral for Qui Gon Palpatine appeared at. At first I thought Dooku choosing not to go implied the episode was concurrent with the funeral scene
It was before, as Yaddle mentioned it was happening soon, and we saw him immediately visit Palpatine. We know it can’t be concurrent, as Palpatine was present at the funeral.
This is nice
Thanks!
A comment from both the real Greek, and a fake one.
I feel such accomplishment
Sorry about the spam.
GeekC will do the Timeline of Eternals?
I will, yea.
@@Geekritique Nice : )
I'd love a full Canon star wars timeline counting the Canon books games and comics along with obv shows movies and stuff I've been kind of eyeballing the order and it's usually wrong, I'm aware it would probably be a lot of work so I imagine this isn't like a realistic ask it's more of like a dream Video to watch
I’d love to do one of those at some point!
@@Geekritique I'd love to watch, comment like and share, I already share the mcu timelines with a couple friends that are interested
Thanks man, that’s very kind of you. I very much appreciate it.
@@Geekritique well I appreciate the time and effort put into these awesome videos
Great video. I'm already subscrbed, so I'm liking and commenting because I want to see Moar. Is Moar a Jedi? A Sith? A introspective Clone Trooper?
Seriously though, about the retconning: Perhaps the novel is what actually happened, and the short is a streamlined telling of the tale, sort of like the Hollywood movie based on the book where that cuts out all the good stuff, like Galadriel giving gifts to the Fellowship of the Rings that was (wrongly) left out of the Theatrical cut of "The Fellowship of The Ring".
Anyway, keep up the great work and, as always, looking forward to the next video.
Moar sounds like a Sith to me! 😂 thanks for the comment.
I really like that way of looking at it. It’s just a bad adaptation of the source material lol. That really should’ve been kept into Fellowship’s theatrical cut, totally agree.
Hurrah!
I think an argument could be made that the novel _Ashoka_ could be her journal; written years later so it is more an unreliable narrator to the actual happenings, as she doesn't remember the actual happenings, but I say that as someone who only read that novel and no others in the _Star Wars_ franchise. It doesn't matter to me if all novels in the _Star Wars_ franchise were ignored, personally.
Hmm, I dunno, it’s not really told as a retrospective or in first person, but that’s an interesting thought.
@@Geekritique Not a idea I gave much thought, but like I also said, if it doesn't work, the novels being canon or not being canon don't bother me either way. This short to me is really just a condensed version of the novel.
Another banger. Would you be down to build a timeline for star wars like the one you've been building for the mcu?
Oh absolutely. It’s a lot of work, but I’ve always wanted to
@@Geekritique All haill the supreme timekeeper. You could include the retconned books on a parallel chronology as if it were an alternate universe where events differ slightly, that would be a god tier timeline for sure
Oh, I kinda like that idea. 🤔
@@Geekritique Go for it!
I only just started watching Clone Wars for the first time about a year or two ago, & it's been slow progress (I think I'm still in season 1?), but I feel like I should probably finish it before starting any of the other animated shows.
Clone Wars took me a while. To get through. You can definitely watch Tales of the Jedi first, the episodes are short. Rebels is also more linear storytelling, so it’s easier to binge.
I‘d be very curious to see this with Andor. There’s a wookiepedia article that states a chronology of every piece of canonical Star Wars content at the moment and I always found it to be very accurate however it definitely places Andor S1 wrong as it puts all Episodes prior to rebels when E5 Andor features an allusion to E2 Rebels (or the movie that composes E1 + E2 if you will)
What allusion? Now you’ve got me wanting to dig into that.
@@Geekritique about 23:45 in the episode the imperial talking to Deedra lists a bunch of Rebel activity, among them activity on Kessel, Ezra’s first mission with the ghost takes place on Kessel.. and we know the events are very close on the timeline just that the wiki puts this episode infront of the Rebels one. Of course you could just pass it off as a coincidence and say there’s been other rebel activity on Kessel before the ghost intervened but I think there’s a good shot it’s supposed to allude to that👀 would be insane if you could place the Andor episodes exact timeline relation to the Rebels ones
Please do more star wars
I’d love to!
Hope this pops off bro
Thanks, me too!
Justice - 60 BBY
Choices - 48 BBY
Life and Death - 36 BBY - 35 BBY
The Sith Lord - 32 BBY
Practice Makes Perfect - 21 BBY - 19 BBY
Resolve - 19 BBY - 18 BBY
Thanks, nailed it.
(Although I think Resolve takes place later, though I can’t prove it)
I love timelines, would love to see more Star Wars ones
Thanks, happy to make more.
I hope to see more Star Wars videos in the future! Your MCU videos are amazing, why you aren’t Marvel’s timeline keeper is beyond me🤷♂️
Thank you, I appreciate the comment. We all gotta take our complaints up to Kevin Feige 😂
Ahsoka was the first Star Wars book I read and is still one of my favourites so it being so heavy retconned in this really annoyed me. In my head the stuff at Padme’s funeral still happened but Ahsoka gave the device back to Bail. Then the events of the Ahsoka novel happen except the flash backs are what’s seen in Clone Wars. The reason Ahsoka is surprised to see Bail alive is because last time they met he was talking about starting a rebellion so she’s surprised he’s not been found out and killed by the empire. Bail is surprised no inquisitor has killed Ahsoka. I know it’s not perfect but I think all the animated stuff with Ahsoka during Revenge of the Sith has been better then the novels version and the main events of the novel are better than the ToJ version. This way the best of both can still exist in my head.
It was one if the first ones I read too, I feel this. Appreciate the headcanon gymnastics 😂
So after watching all of the movies, the 2D Clone Wars show, Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, I have finally bitten the bullet and begun my watch of the 3D Clone Wars show in chronological order. Should I watch all of Clone Wars then Bad Batch then Tales of the Jedi then Andor? Or is there any way to watch some of these episodes within my chronological Clone Wars watch through to enhance my enjoyment of the later projects?
So here's how my list goes:
Tales of the Jedi (S1;E2)
Tales of the Jedi (S1;E3)
Tales of the Jedi (S1;E1)
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Tales of the Jedi (S1;E4)
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
The Clone Wars (S1-7;E1-9)
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
The Clone Wars (S7;E10-12)
Tales of the Jedi (S1;E5)
Tales of the Jedi (S1;E6)
The Bad Batch
Solo
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Rebels
Andor
Rogue One
Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode V: The Empire Strikes-Back
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
The Mandalorian
The Book of Boba Fett
Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
Nice list!
With videos like this I can only make one quote. Kylo Ren “more, More, MORE!”
Can’t wait to make more!!
In my head I say the Ahsoka book is the true version of events. It's disappointing that they created this conflict between the two stories but we can just interpret the TotJ short as a loose retelling of the book. Maybe so mainstream audiences can get a taste of ahsoka's story before her show
I’m so curious about how Lucasfilm lists the canonicity of the two titles.
Definitely something going wrong wit ht the algorithm. Sub 1000 views? Insane. Anyway I enjoy your Marvel stuff and deffo want more Star Wars stuff! I've already stolen the years you provided and used them for my timeline.
Every time I post a Star Wars video it always bombs 🤷🏻♂️
another great video! dooku was the best part of the show for me, definitely one of my favorite star wars characters
edit: where would you place the last episode in the timeline, the same as the novel?
I feel it takes place at a later time than the novel. Maybe between 12-5 BBY, but that’s a huge guess.
anakin skywalker reference in tales of the jedi
?
Commenting for the algorithm.
Your contribution has been noted!
really felt like Resolve took away more than it added. a couple animated shorts adapting the Ahsoka novel would've been great, but Resolve just kinda copies the opening to jedi: fallen order while the novel goes out of its way to characterise ahsoka better. loved the rest of the season but....just gonna pretend there were only 5 eps lmao
I think a lot of people took issue with that last episode, for sure.
does this mean you will stop MCU timeline videos?
??? No. I will continue. I just want to do other stuff as well.
From what I can tell the books & comics in Disney's 2014+ Star Wars Canon are treated as 2nd class citizens in comparison to the films & shows. The Ahsoka novel isn't the first one to be so retconed it became non-canon.
I guess Dave Filoni given the Ahsoka novel author the outline but the author's interpretation of the outline was completely different from what Dave Filoni wanted but somehow it got published in the state it was. Instead of Dave Filoni trying to get the novel in-line with what he wanted. Or... Dave Filoni decided to retcon it for reasons.
In Legends/Expanded Universe pre-2014 canon this happened only when the Prequels and the 3D Clone Wars series came out. George Lucas banned EU writers from exploring the Clone Wars time period but they still referenced it a lot and it contradicted the Prequel Trilogy a lot. Which led to the S-Canon tier of the hierarchy to be created but ivertime the EU was able to adjust itself to the Prequels. Then the 3D Clone Wars came out and it was almost like an alternate universe from the EU but it was placed in its own special T-Canon in between the 6 main films & the main EU books & comics so this this where the problems come in the EU timeline. EU Legends fans today either pretend the 3D Clone Wars is only a part of Disney's universe and not the Legends universe or a part of S-Canon tier to make sense of it.
Yeah, I’m kinda annoyed about how the book was treated here, I’m sure Dave could have told any number of stories, instead of retreading this one, but yeah.. 🤷🏻♂️
It's unfortunate that on screen stories are still mostly treated as more true than books and comics. I don't know about the inner workings of Lucasfilm but they need to have some kind of system in place to prevent this from happening
Wait so why does Obi wan have long hair and anakin short hair in life and death
Excellent question. I’ve got no clue haha.
Commenting for algo
Thank you, sir.
ᑭᖇOᗰOᔕᗰ 😕
First
You did it
Lucasfilm has always said canon is based on the films first, then TV shows and shorts, and finally books and comics.
Actually, since 2014 that hasn’t been the case, which was the proposed point of the Lucasfilm Story Group. According to Matt Martin in 2018, “there is no need for a tier system anymore for SW.”
