    As someone who works with dementia patients I can honestly say I have never experienced someone putting on multiple voices and pretending to be different people. Normally just are just confused, have visual and auditory hallucinations. So I can imagine him speaking to someone he thinks is there but pretending to be those people talking to himself? That’s new….. maybe not for others but that’s a first for me.

    Well, I'm glad that the OP of the last story acknowledged his faults and seems to have greatly matured since then, because being totally honest, that old man didn't sound mean or even unreasonably grumpy. Dude was just defending his property and he never actually shot at the kids, just fired two warning shots which I'm sure served very well in getting his message across. Great stories and narrations as usual!

    • @edstella
      @edstella Před 8 měsíci +21

      I honestly disagree. I understand why he wouldn't want to admit to the crime. It would've been serious. However @soaring1 had a great suggestion and he could've asked what happened and offered to help clean. He wouldn't have taken full responsibility, but it would've at least, in a small way, helped the man. Now, I disagree because he closes his story with, "I'll never forget the fear of being hunted by a man who I guess in some ways, was defending his property." This not only puts the shop owner in a very unfavorable light, but doesn't take any accountability. The man doesn't know it's kids. It could be armed adult men. He wasn't "hunting" them like a sadistic serial killer. He was afraid and unsure of what was happening because he's a guy that owns an apple orchard. He doesn't expect people to be pranking him or something--- he expects someone's trying to steal the till. He might've been robbed before in a traumatic way. And not only that, he's completely ignoring the fact the man wasn't just "in some way, defending his property," that place was his work and livelihood.

I know there are more painful ways to go, but after experiencing the brutality of this disease, as you personally have as well, I’m not sure there’s a more cruel way. As far as natural diseases, at least. To watch a person leave their body while their body is still here is wretched. To be only a shell of who you were… I can’t imagine how it feels to be in that body, not knowing those around you or even yourself many times. I’m so sorry you lost your grandmother that way. Kids have an underdeveloped frontal lobe and are forming syntaxes at that age that will carry them through life. That experience may have culminated with another, far more terrible experience for him as a kid, thus bridging the two and becoming a bad memory for him. It was apparent he had grown and matured, appreciates the fact that he was being a douche, and felt a great deal of remorse. He obviously realized how lucky he was as well. Even during the experience he said he felt remorseful. He couldn’t figure out why he was acting the way he was, hence what I said about it probably being bridged with another bad memory he was subconsciously unaware of. Kids don’t think like adults. Their brains aren’t capable. But at least he grew up and realized that his actions were in the least distasteful and at worst, could’ve cost him his life. If someone learns from an bad experience, I see it as a good thing in the end. At least he first end up like so many adults do, blaming everyone else for his actions and negating his part in the subsequent reaction of the orchard owner. I just feel like that part matters.

      @@louisafeliza after being a mom and spending 20 years in education as a teacher and principal, I can tell you that you just answered your own question. Hit that nail right on the head. The other part of to what I said, and usually the biggest part (there are outliers, but they’re called such for a reason), is the way you were brought up. I’ve seen kids who are raising their siblings at 10 years old. I’ve seen kids who are spoiled brats and never have any accountability. I’ve seen kids who’d as soon die as be disrespectful. I’ve seen kids who would cuss me and their own parents in an office with my name on the door. I could honestly write a book. No joke. And I’ll tell you, without a doubt, I almost always either blamed or touted the parents most, not the kids, for such actions. Sounds like you were reared in a home that had expectations. It’s the way I do my best to rear my own. I want them to be productive members of society who can make it without me, however bittersweet that might be. We all did dumb things as kids. But I think, like you said, the level of “dumbness” depends on what the expectations and consequences will be after the fact, especially at home. I know I’d have preferred dealing with police to dealing with my father. Sounds like you knew that your parents would give consequences and be let down if you behaved in such a manner and that instilled a respect in you that made the thought of even wanting to act that way seem foreign. But the sad part is, many kids don’t have that. From what I’ve seen, fewer and fewer do as time passes. I’m still personally glad to see a growth in this OP. At least he found some character he didn’t have in that moment in his childhood. But more than likely he wasn’t privy to the kind of upbringing you and I were. And it’s sad bc it’s truly the problem with the world today. People take the roll of parenting far too lightly.

    Something I've noticed after years of these stories is that a lot of people seem to have an instinct to actually flee the safety of a house when they have seen someone trying to break in. I think I'd want to stay inside and guard my house, and certainly not risk going outside to get away. Really weird. Especially since most of the time, people will be deterred knowing someone is indeed inside. If they aren't, that's a different problem, but if someone was trying to open my windows I'd ask wtf they think they're doing, not drive away. I guess being poor I care more about the small amount of things I have. 🤷🏻‍♀

    I can't imagine playing hide and seek in the dark. These days, you may get shot! So sad, we had so much fun back in the 70's and 80's being outside, they had to drag us in. It was so great.

    • @edstella
      @edstella Před 8 měsíci +5

      I'm glad you had fun and so did many others, but I always have to remind people... Back in the 70s and 80s, serial killers were extremely active. People hitchhiked and it definitely wasn't safe. People love the 70s and the very laissez faire parenting done, but the truth is that it wasn't safer... In fact now, because of the advances in forensics, all those serial killers that left nothing but suffering and cold cases in their wakes are getting caught!

    • @anklemania
      @anklemania Před 8 měsíci

      @edstella true, but now we have serial killers AND lots more guns. The state of the country has never been like it has in the past 10 years or so with Political unrest, rioting in the streets, Covid, the internet and mostly social media have corrupted so many people. We knew everyone in our neighborhood, we all got along. We could play outside or walk around in groups and people would not call 911 because we were "up to no good." Economy was better, families ate dinners together. You brought up hitch hiking, which I never did. Those people were easy targets, thumb up on the highway. It's sad, but for me, I would take the 70's and 80's any day! I grew up in IL when Gacy was killing boys. My sister went to Marquette and lived 7 houses down from Dahmer when he was killing men. Crime happens, but back then when you, as a parent, knew your neighbors and you were more aware if someone was new in town. Even now with cell phones and video, people would rather video that help and I live in Indianapolis. The Delphi murders they had audio and video and still could not find the man who did this. Back in the day you got spanked and punished if you did something wrong, now you get CPS called on you. We were taught manners, and how to dress appropriately and so much more. So, I guess we will agree to disagree on this one.

    • @joplin8433
      @joplin8433 Před 8 měsíci

      What? The 70's and 80's were statistically way more dangerous than now. Even the crime spike of 2020 didn't even come close to toppling the violent crime rates of the Carter and Reagan era.

    Is the guy in story 4 a complete idiot? Of course she's involved you dunce. She wants to play hide and seek in the woods with a strange guy on a date. That would never happen but let's say it did. So you're hiding, and suddenly this other guy who doesn't know her or have anything to do with her, just happens to rob you. He just happened to be walking by looking for a victim? And then the girl deleted her profile and ghosted you. What do you think, the guy kidnapped her? Honestly, how do these people function in life?

    With a child involved, first story should ABSOLUTELY have called authorities right away, and come out from hiding to protect the boy. If you want to freeze up when you are in danger fine, but NOT ok when a child is involved. They are counting on you to be in charge and protect them from ANY danger! Just my opinion as a father. But it was also forgivable in the fact that they DID protect the boy from having nightmares or living in fear. So all in all that was a tough call to make. I think id have texted the mom from under the bed and THEN left to get ice cream. So good to keep him from fear, but tough that they never caught the freak in the window!

Not to minimize anyone’s experience of fear because i know fear can be subjective. But yeah.. still love these though. I never want to play hide in seek in the dark. That grave one was crazy.

    I know there will be different opinions but I've been a mother for almost 22 years and I have to say for this woman to not like kids her motherly instincts are pretty on point. I think she definitely did the right thing. Shd did what she thought was necessary to protect the child, handled any other way I'm pretty the child would've been frightened. Considering it was his window, the little boy was old enough to put 2 and 2 together... nights and nights of nightmares. Lots of lost sleep for both the child and his mom.

      My oldest use to say she would never have kids. I’d tell her during high school and college that’s where your thought process needs to be. You can always change your mind when you find the time is right. She had 2 kids between age 29 and 32. When the time was right for her.

    • @josiegipson90
      @josiegipson90 Před 8 měsíci

      @@mszuzubookitty4646 I had my first right out of high school at 19. I always knew I wanted kids. I was always the babysitter for everyone. Kids were my thing even when I was a kid. I also married my child's father. But after I had my first I decided I didn't want anymore. I loved taking care of my baby but I had a very difficult delivery. Anyway, I didn't decide I wanted more children until I was 36. It took a bit. Had some problems conceiving and then a miscarriage but I did eventually get pregnant and delivering a.year and a half after first I first decided. I keep saying I, my husband wanted more from the beginning but understood my hesitation so he left it up to me to decide when I was ready. Looking back I'm glad I waited but I do wish I wouldn't have waited so long. Now I want more and can't have them. I think late 20s early 30s is the perfect age to start a family. Both are males. The oldest is now 21. He doesn't want children. At least not now. Me having his brother has been a form of birth control LMAO.
