BIG clean up wow this yard is so bad!! Worst farmers ever

- Mass tidy up ready for the lads to come back, the silage pit is in need of some tlc its gross
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

It really does the bullocks are still at Roy’s dads we have to tend to them daily but they aren’t a bother x

Well you have certainly given it everything to get up and running and well done ....problem is milk is far too cheap and no politician will take up the cause as no votes in telling the public to get their hands in their pockets.....then the supermarkets pulling in punters with cheap milk....I wish I had the answer.....it all started with subsidies after the war but should have been stopped in which case the public would pay the proper price for their goods

i'm still not sure about all those underground channels.........i got a feeling there going to be like that song you keep playing .......more trouble than there worth. i was watching ellie gibbons channel a while back and they got underground channels and they were having to lift the slats out and scoop the muck out with a digger........if you keep the muck on the surface its easy to deal with ........yardscraper/ bucket on bobcat but once it goes underground its not easy getting it out again
The water washings from the robots will be that watery I’m not worried one bit but if I were in doubt we have put in a flush system at the far end to blow water in out of the tanker to sort any problem should it arise
Looking great but keeping cows in with no slurry store going to be very interesting how does that work
