When I travel to new countries, I am always extra curious when it comes to languages -- and this one is crazy! I have this obsession with learning them -- at least a few words but likely more -- so I can communicate with locals and feel more connected to their culture.
Few languages have boggled my mind more than what they speak here in Georgia. It's my second time in this country, and I'm just as confused as I remembered back in 2015 when trying to grasp the language.
And then I learned that the Georgian language is, in fact, one of the most ancient, unique and creative languages in the world! So I made this video all about it :)
Have you ever come across a language that you found particularly interesting? Which ones? Hungarian and Turkish always make me think!

I see tons of jokes abt Georgian having more guttural sounds than Arabic, and I just want to clear this up as a phonetics nerd.
Arabic has _more guttural sounds_ than Georgian. what makes Georgian sound so unique and mind-boggling is that it can have up to 20 consonants in a row (if I recall correctly), while most languages can only have a few. for example, English can only have up to 4 consonants in a row (like in "angsts", a-ng-k-s-t-s /æŋksts/), but Georgian can have a ton. the most common example is Gvprtskvni (which means "you peel us"), which has 9 whole consonants before the vowel finally appears.
so while Arabic has more guttural consonants, Georgian has more consonants per word. A LOT.
(this is an oversimplification of course.)

საქართველო, or Sakartvelo, translates to ‘Georgia’ - another good one to know. The root -kart- has tons of other related conjugations too. Kartuli is the Georgian language, Kartveli means Georgian, and Sakartvelo literally translates to ‘a place for Georgians’. Pretty neat, from the perspective of conjugation!
