- The trip that has been on my mind for years finally happened. Shout out to D&D Fishing Co for taking me out on there boat in Fort Bragg for some albacore fishing. It was my first time targeting albacore, so I was really excited for this trip and cant wait for you all to watch this video to see how it went down. There is a little "How To" in there as well for people looking to try this for themselves. I thought there would be no better way to end the day then to do a catch and cook right when he got to land and make some seared albacore.
Thanks for watching the video!

I’m only a few minutes in but the idea of keeping the boat in motion at 8 knots after a hookup is good for more hookups. Plus the spread is still working. I think 3-5 knots is better but if your on the reel zero knots is the best. Those albacore throw down and after reeling in multiple you will be all bruised up and tired. Clear-reel-reset-repeat. Great video so far.
Thanks for watching. Yeah lots to learn for sure. Appreciate the tips
Very inspiring. I used to work on the trawler, Donna J, out of Noyo harbor. You want great fishing, go up to the 40' 10" line just north of Shelter Cove. Commercial trawlers won't get near that area due to federal regulations. Southern zone trawlers can't go north of it, and the northern zone trawlers can't go south of it. So they generally avoid the area by at least 6 Nautical miles, north and south. Just sayin.
Killer video Chris! Awesome time out there with you!
Thanks Dustin & Devin for inviting me on your boat. What a blast, always remember for my first albacore, what a battle!
That’s catching soon as a blast. I have the biggest one I’ve ever caught was a 40 pounder. I think it was big to me and quite a few of those smaller ones poor man’s tuna or the name of it right now Bermuda I can’t remember dude I’m sorry. I’m stoned again, I just wanna know when you come to Monterey again cause I want to go fishing with you it’ll be a blast
Man what a fishing trip 👍🏻 you guys killed it. Awesome video
Thanks ahmed, yeah had a real good time out there going for albacore with d&d
Let’s goo! Right as I’m rigging up some lines nothing better than to watch & rig up at the same time #tightlines🎣
nice, good luck out there!
I was watching your video and all I could say negatively was when you got your initial hookup, you should have cut back the throttle and reeled in your inner lines. Threw a little chum out the back to possibly catch a straggler coming towards you. Maybe even throw out a live bait while you are still hooked up. On that size of boat 5 rods max. Since you don't have outriggers, too many rods just screw things up like it obviously did. I've been fishing out of San Diego for 40-plus years. It's a learning process and a lot of fun. Albacore makes the best CANNED tuna fish. Yellowfin as well. The yellowfin has great Toro Belly for smoking as well as grilling. Albacore is great when you Sire it on all sides and cook it right to the point of Raw & cooked completely. It's so good it's hard to tell the difference between fish & Steak. My best to all of you. Looks like you have a great rig.
Chris those were some serious grunts coming outta you! Excellent day!
Loved this video. I've got to get out there one of these days and get me some!!
Good day what a way to finish 👍🎣
Nice you guys did good, I seen you guys at the boat launch . Great job boys
Thanks I appreciate it. Yeah I think the boats that stayed out longer did better as the bite seemed to pick up.
Great video!
I'm in Sacramento and love the Fort Bragg area. I've got a jet ski I'm looking to set up for fishing off of... and to learn to fish.
Feels odd admitting I'm only now learning to fish at 59 but... it be.
I hope you got your boat issue fixed... 👍
Wow! Awesome fishin’ guys🤙🏼. I wish I have the money to do what you fellas do. Goog luck and God Bless you all✌🏼
What a great trip, love the catch and cook.Enjoy following you from Pennsylvania
Hi David, thanks for the comment. I really appreciate you watching from the East Coast!
haha, what an opening, great stuff, QUAD, QUAD, QUAD!
You was working my friend. A 30lb salmon seems easy in comparison. That was funny, "they ever talk about humans getting hot"... I've never tuna fished either, can't wait. Great video Chris.
What a finish to a great day!👏🎣👍
Thanks for the info!! Seems like a late bite is best..for us sleepy fisherman 🐟🐟🐟
Awesome!! Nothing pulls like a tuna.
Great video! I got some tuna given to me last year from a fisherman in HMB. He gave me a big slab. He told me to let it sit for a day as the adrenalin in meat would make it taste not as good, so let it rest for that to go away. I went home and couldn’t wait so I cut a steak from it and did the sear. It was pretty good. But kind of got a “bloody” taste from it is best way I’d describe. I did the same cook the next day when I got home from work and man was it way better. One of best pieces of fish I’d ever had. The old fisherman knew what he was talking about. Unbelievable the difference in taste the next day.
How much dollars worth of fish would you have had there if you were to guess? Good job Chris!
Great video, Thank you for your time on the water.
your welcome, happy you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching
If they slow down would it help with losing fish?
yeah I think it could, the give or take I suppose. To truly get big numbers you need triples and quad hook ups. I think as the day went on we got better. Thanks for watching
EPIC trip man..
Your vids are awesome. Good stuff. 👍👍👍👍👍
i appreciate that, thank you!
very good tuna fishing bro congratulations and you cooked it very well
Congratulation on your first.
I’ve always slowed to idle when bringing in fish. But there are a lot of different ways to to get them.
Thanks for sharing what you use👍🎣✌
Awesome job Chris I still got to get my first Albacore it looks like so much fun
yeah you do reece. It is a blast and the meat is good. Thanks for watching
the front row of the earliest comments, continue to listen to the tuna fish trolling
Nice work Chris!
Chris, you have some great adventures bro, that was amazing to see. I'm sure subscribing to them now.
I appreciate it Alonso, I have great subscribers, thanks!
Great video dude,
That big boat is the intrepid, I was on that boat this past July. It’s a tier1 luxury boat. One of the best in the fleet. You should go on a trip with them Chris.
nice, yeah looks like a lot of fun.
“Quad, quad” lmao 🤣 finding Nemo “mine mine mine”
Normally we have troll rod out and the moment we caught fish we stop and start reeling all the troll rod and dropping live bait with it hooked to a 1/0 hooks with ring and 15lbs line and get instant hook while letting our live bait swim. Caught a lot doing that method
Good video nonetheless keep it up!
Thanks Vincent. I appreciate the tips, still got lots to learn out there.
hurricane down south. reason the intrepid was up there.
they did really good on albies.
even caught a couple bigeye.
Next time bring a full plastic trash can with holes at the bottom for the blood to flow out, when you bring it on board straight into the trash can head down to keep the blood from spraying all over!
awesome video
That is a lot of boats but yo I should see Lake Erie on a weekend! Lol literally a line back to the main road
Can always take the Bic out and make some marshmallows while you're waiting
Good job guys you killed 👏
Thanks Oleg. You are the albacore king!
Nice clip Thank you for sharing
I just learning about fishing on ocean
Would you teach me how to hook up the line to the jig just show me how to set up Thx so much
The idea of using 20-30 lb gear is to stop and play the fish. If you are trolling and after about 30-40 seconds you don’t have another hook up, stop and play the fish you will have way more fun.
Dang bro! That was great catching!
Thanks Jun! Yeah those fish fight like crazy. They taste so good too. Thanks for watching
What an epic video, would you share your setups?those old cal star west coasts are classics! What models? What kinda leaders you guys running?
It would be cool to keep a tally of the lures that are hitting
Epic trip Chris! How many days were your arms sore for? Hahaha
it was a 22hr day for me from when I woke up to when I went to bed. Yeah I was sore lol. took like 4 days to get back to normal lol
Those tunas are swimming machines! That was a nice trip! Good job, enjoyed the vlog, Thanks ,Chris!
Thanks for watching. Yeah, the difference between the 10-15 pounders and 25-35 pounders is huge. Also the way they get hooked I think effects how easy or hard to reel in. My 3rd big one was hooked dead center lower lip. Other two were more on the side of mouth. Just an opinion but I think they get a better angle to pull when on the side.
In the future you should bleed first THEN ice. A bleeding fish in the brine only slows the bleeding.
What radio channel do people run out in that area?
They should stop after about 30 seconds after the hookup so you can enjoy the fight. Talk about taking the fun out of it.
I usually count ten seconds then slow the boat to a troll. Anyway you guys rock.
Thanks for the tips, still learning.
Yeah seven knots is too much..and you maybe running away from the school...hold speed for 50 yards...throw some dead or lives chunked choices and the school has a good chance of following the hooked fish to the boat .then keep a large wide circle at 1-2 knots while you bring the fish to the boat
Chris, you should smoke the bellies. You'll be amazed how good they are. Great video.
yeah thats what I heard. I wish i cut the bellies off before freezing. Next time thats what I will do. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment
@@ChrisPfish2 Freezing?!? Ahh man tuna loses a lot of luster when you freeze it. I like to at least cook or smoke it before freezing. Keep it very cold and on ice (not in fridge, or if in fridge, covered in ice in fridge) it'll be sushi quality for a week. Albacore also cans amazing (obviously) but fresh frozen is a last resort IMO
Chris, did you get your big motor fixed?
Pretty flat out there
Does D&D take ppl put to fish for albacore?
Pound for pound tuna fights so much harder than salmon. Salmon is all about fitness but tuna is just brute force. They are a lot of fun to catch. Salmon is the most versatile and best tasting though.
What kind of boat is that? Cool looking boat
I came here for an update on your boat... curious to know cause I hate boat problems
I will start off my next video talking about it. posting it tomorrow i think. It was a negative tide. I got seaweed/junk in the intake so it stopped the water cooling the motor. It went into protection mode. No damage was caused. Back up and fishing.
@@ChrisPfish2 man that's best case scenario... I got a random beep on my tracker too but merc sells a computer for $200 so ima hook that up... I hate boat problems... my mudboat had a broken wire that looked perfectly fine but it was broken internally.. luckily I know how to troubleshoot but the stress of it all is the worse. Glad you're back up and running! Rip them lipssssss
Have you ever canned any of your Albacore? Best canned tuna you will ever eat!! It’s really easy to can.
no I havent. Thats the plan for this year though. Thanks for watching
@@ChrisPfish2 I enjoy watching your videos. I was born and raised in Southern California and I used to go out on long range albacore trips out of San Diego. I learned how to can albacore and yellowtail. It really is very simple and it’s well worth it. My wife’s never really liked tuna until she had home can tuna. I’m sure that if you try it, you’ll love it too.
I bet you won't complain about the work in reeling up rockfish that are 300 feet down at the islands anymore!
seriously! Thanks for watching
what hoop nets would you recommend and where would you purchase them please and thank you 🤠
I would look at outdoor pro shop. I am not too familiar with the hoop net options. Look for "conical" and probably get the biggest ones.
@@ChrisPfish2 copy that thanks 👍🤠
wasssssssup
The only thing missing was wasabi ginger soy sauce and a steelhead pale ale
How big is the Pitbull kill bag?
The ones I was using is 60" they make smaller and one bigger that is 72". Thanks for watching
Time to hit the gym lol
Stop the boat when you find the first troll fish. Toss a swim bait back to that fish while someone works some iron (jigs) to convert your troll fish to a bait stop. Leave the first troll fish hang close to the boat while your crew hooks up on iron or live bait if you have a bait tank. You coukd be driving away from the school if you don't stop and convert.
Hey Chris, is the boat a Wellcraft Airslot?
It’s a 79 wellcraft airslot!
@@DDFishingCo I had a 78 Airslot 24 and I loved it. Many Albacore trips. A very smooth riding boat.
@@Mark-dj5qf thanks awesome mark! We love the airslot handles big water like a champ for it’s size!
Chris what’s your grill called? Any one?
just google "coleman 4 in 1"
Dude, if I wanted to see boat riding I would search “boat riding”!
ok dude.
What is the knot
Take the boat out of gear and start throwing Iron when you get one one.
Back in the day when we hook one on troll boat stop and we start throwing live anchovies for more hookups. There was one time when each of us 10 anglers caught 14 albacore each. That was then about 20 years agon
@@freddiegonz4113 those trips are still available out of Westport. Live bait stops on overnight charters 🤙
thanks for the tip and watching the video!
What were you up to today? Just boat flippin' ablies, no biggie
I think that was a lanternfish that it spit up!
nice, yeah i wish i got a better shot of it. For sure something I wasn't familiar with and it looked like it was from the deeps.
@@ChrisPfish2 The fish I got last week had tons of tiny sauries in it, maybe that was it
God dang tuna massacre lol
So how many did you lose?
we lost 4 and landed 10. Thanks for watching
why didn't you slow down after the hookups? Albacore on the troll are easy, shouldn't have to labor so hard. The school would have reacted to the other jigs if you slowed down and even put it in a circle. A small boat like that would benefit greatly with some outriggers. You would catch more if you trolled 4 rods, with two boat lines, all trolling the same sized/type/color jig.
did i mention it was my first time. There 2nd time? Happy with the results. We learned for next time and thanks for the comment.
🤐
Jason, it was our first time... very happy with the results and learned a lot
Yeah, they bleed a lot. Don’t they? I fucking it look like O.J. Simpson was on the boat when we got the tuna that was a while back though dude back when you were probably 10 years old.
You need to drizzle some soy sauce too
Stop the boat , land the fish and circle troll - just saying - nice fish, thanks for posting
Loved your video and Slow Down when you hook one. Also bleeding is overrated. I’ve caught many Longfin and never cut gills. They bleed when gaffed and the meat is just as good. Better to can these guys. For your info, the SD fleet hasn’t seen Albacore in 20 years and Morro Bay where we use to catch 40lbrs haven’t seen any since 2006. That first fish looked more like 20, not 30#
You missing the important ingredient lol
They are yelling quads!! Meaning cameramen get that pole, stat!!
Weren't you suppose to eat the heart being it your first lol
yeah I think so, good thing they forgot, haha
Trolling way too fast, especially after hooking up. Ripping the hook right out of the mouth. Reason you guys lost some.
Theres no need to go that fast when fighting the fish. Just put it in gear at idle. You lost the first fish because you litterally yanked the hook out going 15mph. SMH
sorry you didnt like the video. We are not experts, just learning and showing the experience so we can all learn together. we were going 7-9 mph but i get your point. Different people have different approach. I think most common is when first fish bites keep going for about 30 seconds.
