    As someone just said, a band doesn't reach popularity by having number 1 hits. Queen songs are heard everywhere, for 50 years and continues. Doesn't matter if these songs are number 1....

    Queen has always been criticized by the specialized media for making music so diverse that it was never understood in its own time. You could say that Queen's music was made to be eternal and not just fashionable. Maybe that's why there are few nos. 1 including in England. Furthermore, after the American MTV banned the video for I Want to Break Free, Queen decided to stop touring the USA and, as a consequence, also stopped appearing on the charts. Most no. 1 of the band are from other countries such as Japan, Argentina and Brazil. Despite this, the Greatest Hits 1 album is the best-selling album in the United Kingdom, surpassing the 7 million units mark. Next up is ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits and The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

    Actually John Deacon played almost all instruments on this ,including bass, piano, electric rhythm guitar, and hand claps,..Brian contributed noises on his guitar and a harmonizer, Roger added a drum loop,..no synthesizers used on this song..according to wiki…Thanks for the great reaction❤

    John Deacon wrote this song. Sure I remember that he wrote part of this as a teenager but never put it all together until the late 70s.
    Something like 3 and a half to 4 million sold in the US according to Roger Taylor.
    I think this is the biggest selling Queen song.

    Queen in the early years made absolutely no money from their songs. I could be wrong but I am almost sure they said they made nothing from Bohemian Rhapsody when it first came out. Roger Taylor said that the record producers were driving around in Rolls Royces and Limos and he had to literally beg for them to buy him some drumsticks. If you want to hear the ultimate diss song before diss songs were a thing listen to Queen's song Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to....). They wrote it about their manager and producers at the time.

    Want to hear a song they wrote when they finally caught on the first music companies that messed with Queen? Try Death on Two Legs. Freddie wrote that and the band supported hi with a song that burned him so bad he sued for defamation. Also if you haven’t heard Innuendo you should. It’s brilliant.

    A bands success is not based on the amount of number ones they have its based on the amount of hits they have and the amount of successful albums they make. Its different these days many don't have genuine number ones they have streaming number ones so they don't really count or have the gravitas of yesteryear.

    Responding to your bit about Jackson and The Beatles - Michael Jackson actually outbid Paul McCartney for the Beatles songs.
    From an interview I saw with Paul, Jackson actually told Paul that he was going to do it but from what the latter said he didn’t take him seriously.
    “He said ‘I’m gonna buy your songs’. I thought ‘I love this guy, he’s a great laugh, you know’”.
    Paul really got pissed off when Jackson sold off one of John’s songs, Revolution, to Nike for an advert for trainers as he felt Jackson was cheapening what the song was about when it was written.

  • @lynnelang3184
    @lynnelang3184 Před měsícem +2

    You spoke about the Lennon & McCartney songs being owned by Michael Jackson. Google how the songs ended up out of their control. It took years for Sir Paul to buy them back and MJ, IMO, was very underhanded in his acquisition of the songs. Interesting read and highlights how important it is to keep control of a band's musical assets.

    I am sure this song was number one in several charts in the US as no-one seemed to know what genre this fitted into.
    I have a vague memory that there is a theory amongst some music scholars that this is an early example of Hip Hop.
    I am no expert in that field so that is a debate for more learned people than I.

    This is their biggest hit world wide, out selling Bho Rhap by a million copies. Brian and Roger never liked it. John plays all the guitars on the track, Brian just makes funny noises in the middle. Michael Jackson convinced them it would be a hit, otherwise they wouldn't have released it. This is the only version, no extended remixes. It is longer live and varies from show to show. Wembley '86 is my fav, Freddie skats in the middle and plays with the crowd.
