Is there a Salvation Army nearby where the people can get help? There are homeless people in the U S, Canada...but there are lots of gov. help that's available like food stamps etc. It breaks my heart when I see the elderly in S A sleeping on the streets and going hungry for days, 1 man who was not homeless ate some of his cats' food before he left for church.

The feeling of love and happiness you get by giving is indescribable. I haven't been able to do much lately. But when I was able to go to different cities I'd take the city bus to wherever the homeless were. I'd hang out with them all day and talk to them and listen to their stories, buy them food, socks, hats and shirts and give whatever money I was able to. The feeling is truly indescribable. I wish I was able to still do that. Hopefully one day I'll be in that position again. For now all I have to offer is an ear to listen to their stories. But I've been homeless before and just having someone take a little time out of their day just to ask how you are doing and allow you to get some things off your chest means more than you might know & is enough a lot of the time.

The majority of our homeless assistance programs are run by private organisations and private people.
